  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «ENGINE COOLING»(ref-569571) .
  2. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly. Refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING»(ref-569599) .
  3. Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
  4. NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve gasket. NOTE: If there is no residual gasket material present, metal surface prep can be used to clean and prepare the surfaces Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations. Clean the specified component with the specified material. Material: Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install a new EGR valve gasket.

Note. Clean and inspect the crankcase vent oil separator for damage prior to installation.

  1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to «ENGINE - 1.6L GTDI»(ref-569555) .
  2. Remove the starter motor. Refer to «STARTING SYSTEM»(ref-569607) .
  3. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-In).
  4. Clean the specified component. Visual check.
  5. Apply the specified lubricant to the specified component. Materials: Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to «ENGINE - 2.0L GTDI»(ref-569556) .
  2. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  3. Clean the specified component. Visual check. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  2. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Visual check. Clean the specified component.
