- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition switch position.
- If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.

- PC3 ISOLATE NO COMMUNICATION WITH A SINGLE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK Use the diagnostics data link test recorded results. Are some but not all modules not communicating on a network? - J1 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Power Steering Control Module C1463a. Measure the resistance between the power steering control module C1463a-14, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the power steering control module C1463a-16, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to J2. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- J2 CHECK FOR CORRECT POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE OPERATION Disconnect all the power steering control module connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the power steering control module connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : DIAGNOSE the high speed CAN. GO to «PINPOINT TEST P»(ref-232245-S10130823412006051600000) . No : The system is operating correctly at this time. - K1 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE TCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: TCM C1458a. Measure the resistance between the TCM C1458a-1, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the TCM C1458a-7, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to K2. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- K2 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM OPERATION NOTE: Do not disconnect the high voltage cables or connectors in the following step. Disconnect all the TCM harness connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the TCM harness connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to N2. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.

- O1 CHECK THE SJB GROUND CIRCUIT Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280a-21, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to O2. No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- O2 CHECK THE SJB C2280B FOR VOLTAGE Connect: SJB C2280a. Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280b-4, circuit 1052 (TN/BK), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to O3. No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- O3 CHECK THE MEDIUM SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE SJB AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280a-25, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side and the DLC C251-3, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side; and between the SJB C2280a-26, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side and the DLC C251-11, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to O4. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- O4 CHECK THE MEDIUM SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220. Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220-14, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side and the DLC C251-3, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C220-15, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side and the DLC C251-11, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to O5. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- O5 CHECK THE VEHICLE FOR AN ACP MODULE Check the vehicle for an ACP module. Is the vehicle equipped with an ACP module? Yes : GO to O6. No : GO to O8 .
- O6 CHECK THE MEDIUM SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE ACP MODULE AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: ACP Module C2294a. Measure the resistance between the ACP module C2294a-1, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side and the DLC C251-3, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side; and between the ACP C2294a-2, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side and the DLC C251-11, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to O7. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- O7 CHECK THE MEDIUM SPEED CAN WITH THE ACP MODULE DISCONNECTED Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Diagnostic Tool Data Link Test. With the ACP module disconnected, does the diagnostic tool communicate with all other medium speed CAN modules? Yes : GO to O13 . No : GO to O8.
- O8 CHECK THE MEDIUM SPEED CAN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Connect: ACP Module C2294a. Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-3, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side and ground; and between the DLC C251-11, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side and ground. Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : GO to O9. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- O9 CHECK THE MEDIUM SPEED CAN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: ACP Module C2294a. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the DLC C251-3, circuit 1847 (WH/OG), harness side and ground; and between the DLC C251-11, circuit 1848 (PK/OG), harness side and ground. Is any voltage indicated? Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : GO to O10.
- O10 CHECK THE CAN WITH A SUBSTITUTED SJB Key in OFF position. Connect: ACP Module C2294a. Connect: Instrument Cluster C220. Install a known good SJB. Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Diagnostic Tool Data Link Test. Does the diagnostic tool indicate system passed? Yes : INSTALL the original SJB. GO to O12 . No : INSTALL the original SJB. GO to O11.
- O11 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER»(ref-232242) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - O12 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-232247) . CLEAR the DTCs. With the power steering module disconnected, does the diagnostic tool communicate with all other high speed CAN modules? Yes : GO to P20 . No : GO to P3.
- P3 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Connect: Power Steering Control Module C1463a. Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220. Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220-12, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C220-13, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to P4. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P4 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISCONNECTED Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Diagnostic Tool Data Link Test. With the instrument cluster disconnected, does the diagnostic tool communicate with all other high speed CAN modules? Yes : GO to P17 . No : GO to P5.
- P5 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE TCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Connect: Instrument Cluster C220. Disconnect: TCM C1458a. Measure the resistance between the TCM C1458a-1, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the TCM C1458a-7, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to P6. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P6 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN WITH THE TCM DISCONNECTED Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Diagnostic Tool Data Link Test. With the TCM disconnected, does the diagnostic tool communicate with all other high speed CAN modules? Yes : GO to P22 . No : If the vehicle is equipped with 4WD, GO to P7. If the vehicle is not equipped with 4WD, GO to P9 .
- P7 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Connect: TCM C1458a. Disconnect: 4WD Control Module C3253. Measure the resistance between the 4WD control module C3253-4, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the 4WD control module C3253-12, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to P8. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P8 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN WITH THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE DISCONNECTED Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Diagnostic Tool Data Link Test. With the 4WD control module disconnected, does the diagnostic tool communicate with all other high speed CAN modules? Yes : GO to P19 . No : GO to P9.
- P9 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE ABS MODULE AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Connect: 4WD Control Module C3253. Disconnect: ABS Module C1462. Measure the resistance between the ABS module C1462-30, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the ABS module C1462-15, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to P10. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P10 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN WITH THE ABS MODULE DISCONNECTED Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Diagnostic Tool Data Link Test. With the ABS module disconnected, does the diagnostic tool communicate with all other high speed CAN modules? Yes : GO to P18 . No : GO to P11.
- P11 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE TBCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: TBCM C4227a. Measure the resistance between the TBCM C4227a-29, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the TBCM C4227a-28, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to P12. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P12 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE PCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: PCM C175b. Measure the resistance between the PCM C175b-11, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the PCM C175b-23, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to P13. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P13 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: ABS Module C1462, 4WD Control Module C3253 (if equipped), TCM C1458a, Power Steering Control Module C1463a, Instrument Cluster C220. Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and ground; and between the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and ground. Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : GO to P14. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P14 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and ground; and between the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and ground. Is any voltage indicated? Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : GO to P15.
- P15 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED CAN WITH A SUBSTITUTED PCM Key in OFF position. Connect: Power Steering Control Module C1463a. Connect: TCM C1458a. Connect: 4WD Control Module C3253. Connect: ABS Module C155. Connect: TBCM Module C4227a. Install a known good PCM. Refer to «ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - HYBRID»(ref-232212) . Key in ON position. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Diagnostic Tool Data Link Test. Does the diagnostic tool indicate system passed? Yes : INSTALL the original PCM. GO to P16. No : INSTALL the original PCM. GO to P21 .
- P16 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION Disconnect all the PCM connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to «ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - HYBRID»(ref-232212) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P17 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER»(ref-232242) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P18 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION Disconnect all the ABS module connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the ABS module connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to «ANTI-LOCK CONTROL»(ref-232241) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test.
- P19 CHECK FOR CORRECT 4WD CONTROL MODULE OPERATION Disconnect all the 4WD control module connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the 4WD control module connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new 4WD control module. REFER to «FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEMS»(ref-232198) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- P20 CHECK FOR CORRECT POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE OPERATION Disconnect all the power steering control module connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the power steering control module connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new power steering control module. REFER to «POWER STEERING»(ref-232231) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- P21 CHECK FOR CORRECT TBCM OPERATION NOTE: Do not disconnect the high voltage cables or connectors in the following step. Disconnect all the TBCM harness connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the TBCM harness connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new high voltage traction battery. REFER to «HIGH VOLTAGE TRACTION BATTERY»(ref-232253) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the diagnostic tool data link test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs.
