REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. Before testing starter, ensure transmission is in Park or Neutral. |
Removal & Installation (2.0L)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove starter bolts. (Scheme 7) Raise and support vehicle. Remove halfshaft support bracket bolts and nuts. (Scheme 8) Remove battery cable and starter control electrical connector nuts. (Scheme 9) Remove starter motor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.

Removal & Installation (3.0L)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner outlet tube and air cleaner assembly. Drain engine cooling system. Disconnect the 3 hoses and position thermostat aside. Remove starter solenoid cable nuts and position solenoid cables aside. (Scheme 10) Remove starter motor mounting bolts and starter motor. (Scheme 11) To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
