GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
The parking aid system consists of the following
- Four ultrasonic parking aid sensors (located in the rear bumper cover)
- Parking Aid Module (PAM) (located behind the engine cover mounted to the instrument panel frame)
- Parking aid speaker (located on the PAM)
- Parking aid disable feature (integral to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) message center)
The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the rear of the vehicle by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the rear bumper when REVERSE (R) is selected.
The rear sensors are activated when REVERSE (R) is selected. The parking aid system assists the driver in detecting certain objects while the vehicle moves slowly in reverse at speeds of less than 4.8 km/h (3 mph). The parking aid system may not detect moving objects.
Video
The rear video camera system consists of the following
- Video camera (located in the license plate housing in the rear door)
- Auto-dimming interior mirror (without navigation)
- Audio Control Module (ACM) (with navigation)
For vehicles without navigation, the image from the video camera is displayed in the left portion of the auto-dimming interior mirror. For vehicles with navigation, the image from the video camera is displayed in the ACM. The displayed video image is horizontally inverted from that viewed from the video camera perspective to mimic a conventional mirror image.

Principles of Operation
Note. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
The parking aid system detects objects behind the vehicle when the REVERSE (R) gear is selected. The Parking Aid Module (PAM) calculates the distance to an object by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors mounted in the rear bumper. The PAM does this by calculating the distance to an object within the 170 degree semicircular area around the rear of the vehicle.
A variable-rate warning tone is generated from a speaker attached to the PAM. The speaker increases its warning tone rate as the vehicle gets closer to an obstacle. When an object is detected within 30 cm (12 in) of the sensors, the warning tone becomes continuous.
The parking aid system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the REVERSE (R) gear is selected. The parking aid system is disabled if a fault is detected in the sensors, the parking aid speaker, or the PAM. This is indicated by a parking aid disabled warning message in the message center.
The PAM is on the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) and can be diagnosed with a scan tool. The PAM communicates with the scan tool, the SJB, the Audio Control Module (ACM) and the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
Note. Both the MS-CAN and the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are used for intermodule communication. A gateway message is transferred from one network to another network through the IPC. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK for additional network communication information.

Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.

- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM: Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition key is in the ON position. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) to diagnose no response from the PCM.
- Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) . If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the PAM.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC CHARTS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__dtc-charts) . For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/cruise-control-systems/#multifunction-electronic-modules) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__symptom-chart) .

SYMPTOM CHART
Normal Operation
The parking aid system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the REVERSE (R) gear is selected. The Parking Aid Module (PAM) receives reverse gear input from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) through the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). A reference voltage and signal return is supplied to the parking aid sensors from the PAM. The PAM receives an input signal from each individual parking aid sensor. The system can be disabled through the IPC message center.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Parking aid sensors alignment
- PAM
- Rear bumper
PINPOINT TEST A: THE PARKING AID IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
- A1 CHECK THE DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND PAM SELF-TESTS Check the PAM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests. Are any PAM DTCs recorded? Yes : REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) . No : GO to A2.
- A2 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER FOR PARKING AID DISABLE OPERATION While observing the IPC message center, disable and enable the parking aid system. Does the message center display PARK AID OFF when the parking aid system is disabled, and PARK AID ON when the parking aid system is enabled? Yes : GO to A3. No : REFER to «INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#information-center-instrumentation-message-center-and-warning-chimes) .
- A3 CHECK FOR CORRECT REVERSE GEAR INPUT Apply the parking brake. Ignition ON. Select REVERSE. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM DataLogger. Monitor the PAM PID (TRANSGR). Does the PID indicate YES (transmission in REVERSE)? Yes : GO to A4. No : GO to A5 .
- A4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSORS FOR CORRECT ALIGNMENT NOTE: If the vehicle was in a rear end collision, the parking aid sensors may not be aligned correctly. Check the bumper for correct alignment. Carry out the azimuth system check. Refer to «AZIMUTH SYSTEM CHECK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) . Carry out the elevation system check. Refer to «ELEVATION SYSTEM CHECK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__elevation-system-check) . Does the parking aid system pass both system checks? Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. No : REALIGN or INSTALL a new bumper. REFER to «BUMPERS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) . If the vehicle was in a rear end collision, further body work may be required to bring the parking aid sensors into correct alignment.
- A5 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__removal-and-installation) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

The Parking Aid Module (PAM) supplies a reference voltage and signal return to the parking aid sensors. Each of the parking aid sensors has an individual input signal to the PAM. When an object is present behind the vehicle, the PAM receives an input signal from the sensors and determines the distance of the object to the vehicle. A fault condition occurs when the PAM detects an open in the parking aid sensor circuits or the parking aid sensor input signal is shorted to ground.

- B2 CHECK THE BUMPER WIRING HARNESS Inspect the bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds, or corrosion. Is the bumper wiring harness OK? Yes : GO to B3. No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B3 CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR OPENS Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Suspect Parking Aid Sensor C4009, C4010, C4011 or C4012. Disconnect: PAMC2023. A fault condition occurs when the PAM detects a short to voltage on the parking aid sensor signal circuit.

- C1 RETRIEVE THE DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND PAM SELF-TESTS Check the PAM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests. Are multiple DTCs recorded? Yes : GO to C2. No : For DTC C1699, C1702, C1705 or C1708, GO to C3 . For all other DTCs, REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) .
- C2 CHECK THE BUMPER WIRING HARNESS Inspect the bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds, or corrosion. Is the bumper wiring harness OK? Yes : GO to C3. No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C3 CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR SHORTS TO VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Suspect Parking Aid Sensor C4009, C4010, C4011 or C4012. Disconnect: PAMC2023. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the suspect parking aid sensor, harness side and ground as follows: DTC Rear Sensor Connector-Pin Circuit C1699 LH outer C4009-2 VMP15 (YE/GN) C1702 RH outer C4011-2 VMP17 (YE/OG) C1705 LH inner C4010-2 VMP14 (WH/OG) C1708 RH inner C4012-2 VMP16 (YE/GY) Is any voltage present? - C4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSORS Install a known good parking aid sensor(s) for each of the suspect parking aid sensor(s). Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test. Test the system for normal operation. Is the concern still present? Yes : GO to C5. No : INSTALL a new sensor(s) for the one in question. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__parking-aid-sensor) . CLEAR the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.

The parking aid system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the REVERSE (R) gear is selected. The Parking Aid Module (PAM) calculates the distance to an object by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors mounted in the rear bumper. The parking aid sensors can detect obstructions in the path behind the vehicle. The attenuation time for the rear parking aid sensors is the time required for a sensor to detect the distance to an object expressed in milliseconds (ms).

| C1710 - Right Rear Center Sensor Circuit Fault | A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the right rear center parking aid sensor has internally failed or has an incorrect attenuation time. |
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following
- Dirty or obstructed parking aid sensor
- Parking aid sensor
- Parking aid bumper harness
- PAM
- D1 CHECK THE DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND PAM SELF-TESTS Check the PAM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests. Are parking aid DTCs other than C1701, C1704, C1707 or C1710 recorded? Yes : DIAGNOSE the other DTCs first. REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) . No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR OPERATION NOTE: Make sure the area around the vehicle is clear of anything that can activate the parking aid system. Clean the rear bumper and sensors with high-pressure water. Carry out the azimuth system check. Refer to «AZIMUTH SYSTEM CHECK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) . Carry out the elevation system check. Refer to «ELEVATION SYSTEM CHECK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__elevation-system-check) . Does the parking aid system pass both system checks? Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a dirty or blocked parking aid sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to D3.
- D3 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR DISTANCE PIDs Make sure the suspect parking aid sensor(s) is flush-mounted in the bezel. Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM DataLogger. With the brake pedal applied, shift the transmission into REVERSE (R) and monitor the parking aid sensor distance PID. The PID reads 255 cm (100 in or 8.4 ft) on a correctly functioning sensor. Does the PID read 255 cm (100 in or 8.4 ft)? Yes : GO to D4. No : GO to D5 .
- D4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR ATTENUATION PIDs Check the parking aid sensor attenuation PIDs. Do the attenuation PIDs read between 0 and 16 ms? Yes : GO to D6 . No : GO to D5.
- D5 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSORS Install a new sensor for the suspect parking aid sensor. Ignition ON. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : GO to D6. No : The cause of the concern was an inoperative parking aid sensor. The system is now operating correctly.
- D6 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__removal-and-installation) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
Pinpoint Test E: DTC B1299

The Parking Aid Module (PAM) supplies a reference voltage and signal return to the parking aid sensors. Each of the parking aid sensors has an individual input signal to the PAM. When an object is present behind the vehicle, the PAM receives an input signal from the sensors and determines the distance of the object to the vehicle. A fault condition occurs when the PAM detects a short to ground or signal return circuit on the parking aid sensor voltage circuit.
- DTC B1299 (Power Supply Sensor Circuit Short to Ground) - sets when the sensor power supply circuit is shorted to ground.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Parking aid sensor(s)
- Parking aid bumper harness
- PAM
Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

- E1 CHECK THE BUMPER WIRING HARNESS Inspect the bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds, or corrosion. Is the bumper wiring harness OK? Yes : GO to E2. No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E2 CHECK THE LH OUTER SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Parking Aid Sensor C4009. Ignition ON. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1299 still present? Yes : GO to E3. No : INSTALL a new LH outer parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__parking-aid-sensor) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E3 CHECK THE RH OUTER SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Parking Aid Sensor C4011. Ignition ON. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1299 still present? Yes : GO to E4. No : INSTALL a new RH outer parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__parking-aid-sensor) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E4 CHECK THE LH INNER SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Parking Aid Sensor C4010. Ignition ON. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1299 still present? Yes : GO to E5. No : INSTALL a new LH inner parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__parking-aid-sensor) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E5 CHECK THE RH INNER SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Parking Aid Sensor C4012. Ignition ON. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1299 still present? Yes : GO to E6. No : INSTALL a new RH inner parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__parking-aid-sensor) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E6 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Disconnect: PAMC2023. Measure the resistance between the PAMC2023-9, circuit LMP07 (BU/WH), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to E7. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E7 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE PARKING AID SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT Ignition OFF. Measure the resistance between the PAMC2023-9, circuit LMP07 (BU/WH), harness side and the PAMC2023-12, circuit RMP07 (GN/WH), harness side. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to E8. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. Pinpoint Test F: DTC C1742 Or DTC C1743

When the parking aid sensors detect obstructions in the path behind the vehicle a variable rate warning tone is generated from a parking aid speaker. The parking aid speaker increases the warning tone rate as the vehicle gets closer to an obstacle. A fault condition occurs when the Parking Aid Module (PAM) detects an open, short to ground or short to voltage on the parking aid speaker circuits.
- DTC C1742 (Rear Sounder Circuit Failure) - sets when the sounder circuit is open or shorted to ground.
- DTC C1743 (Rear Sounder Circuit Short to Vbat) - sets when the sounder circuit is shorted to voltage.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- PAM
- Parking aid speaker

- F2 MEASURE THE PARKING AID SPEAKER RESISTANCE Disconnect: Parking Aid Speaker C2024. Measure the resistance between the parking aid speaker pin 1, component side and the parking aid speaker pin 2, component side. Is the resistance between 40 and 60 ohms? Yes : If DTC C1742 was recorded, GO to F3. If DTC C1743 was recorded, GO to F7 . No : INSTALL a new parking aid speaker. - F3 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (+) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Connect: Parking Aid Speaker C2024. Disconnect: PAMC2023. Measure the resistance between the PAMC2023-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to F5 . No : GO to F4.
- F4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (+) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE PARKING AID SPEAKER DISCONNECTED Disconnect: Parking Aid Speaker C2024. Measure the resistance between the PAMC2023-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : REPAIR circuit RMP09 (BU/GN). CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR circuit CMP09 (BN/BU). CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F5 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (+) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Parking Aid Speaker C2024. Measure the resistance between the PAMC2023-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side and the parking aid speaker C2024-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to F6. No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F6 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (-) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between the PAMC2023-6, circuit RMP09 (BU/GN), harness side and the parking aid speaker C2024-1, circuit RMP09 (BU/GN), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to F8 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F7 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER CIRCUITRY FOR SHORTS TO VOLTAGE Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the PAMC2023-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side and ground; and between the PAMC2023-6, circuit RMP09 (BU/GN), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to F8.
- F8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system__removal-and-installation) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. - G1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN Ignition ON. Verify that there is an observable symptom present. Is an observable symptom present? Yes : GO to G2. No : The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
- G2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test. Carry out the network test. Does the SJB pass the network test? Yes : GO to G3. No : REFER to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) .
- G3 RECHECK THE PAM DTCs NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the PAM self-test. Is DTC U0140 still present? Yes : GO to G4. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic.
- G4 CHECK FOR DTC U0140 SET IN OTHER MODULES Clear all DTCs. Ignition OFF. Ignition ON. Wait 10 seconds. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test. Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules. Is DTC U0140 set in any module? Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. The Parking Aid Module (PAM) receives the transmission selector (PRNDL) state from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) as a gateway message from the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
- DTC U0155 (Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)) Control Module - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the PAM when PRNDL messages are not received from the IPC.

- H1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN Ignition ON. Verify that there is an observable symptom present. Is an observable symptom present? Yes : GO to H2. No : The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
- H2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test. Carry out the network test. Does the IPC pass the network test? Yes : GO to H3. No : REFER to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) .
- H3 RECHECK THE PAM DTCs NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the PAM self-test. Is DTC U0155 still present? Yes : GO to H4. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic.
- H4 CHECK FOR DTC U0155 SET IN OTHER MODULES Clear all DTCs. Ignition OFF. Ignition ON. Wait 10 seconds. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test. Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules. Is DTC U0155 set in any module? Yes : INSTALL a new IPC. A volume cutback request message is sent to the Audio Control Module (ACM) from the Parking Aid Module (PAM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) to decrease the volume of the ACM while the parking aid warning tone is sounded. The sounder increases its warning tone rate as the vehicle gets closer to an obstacle. When an object is detected within 30 cm (12 in) of the vehicle, the warning tone becomes continuous.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

PINPOINT TEST I: THE AUDIO VOLUME DOES NOT REDUCE WHEN PARKING AID TONE SOUNDS
- I1 CHECK THE ACM CONFIGURATION Apply the parking brake. Place an object behind the vehicle within the range of the parking aid sensors. Ignition ON. Apply the brake pedal and place the gear selector in REVERSE (R). Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: ACM DataLogger. Monitor the RPA_STAT (Parking Aid Input Status) PID while the parking aid tone is sounding. Does the RPA_STAT PID read "Enabled" while the parking aid tone is sounding? Yes : GO to I3 . No : GO to I2.
- I2 CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION WITH THE PAM Carry out the network test using the scan tool. Does the scan tool communicate with the PAM? Yes : GO to I3. No : REFER to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) to diagnose no communication with the PAM.
- I3 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM OPERATION Disconnect the ACM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the ACM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to «INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/entertainment-systems/#information-system-and-entertainment-system) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
Parking Aid - Video

Note. The rear door must be closed for correct operation of the video camera system.
Note. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
The rear video camera system is used to assist the driver while reversing or parking the vehicle. The video camera is located in the center of the right rear door mounted to the license plate housing. For vehicles without navigation, the image of the area behind the vehicle is displayed in the left portion of the auto-dimming interior mirror. For vehicles with navigation, the image of the area behind the vehicle is displayed in the Audio Control Module (ACM). A dashed line on the displayed image represents the center of the vehicle and 3 color-coded lines (red, yellow, green) identify different zones between the rear of the vehicle and objects.
Note. The color-coded lines may not indicate accurate or consistent distances between objects located behind the vehicle and the rear of the vehicle. This normal condition is due to variances in vehicle ride height, including, but not limited to, vehicle loading.
For vehicles without navigation, the signal from the rear video camera is sent to the auto-dimming interior mirror display on a pair of shielded video circuits.
For vehicles with navigation, the signal from the rear video camera is sent to the ACM on a pair of shielded video circuits. The displayed video image is horizontally inverted from that viewed from the video camera perspective to mimic a conventional mirror image.
The rear video camera system is active with the ignition in RUN and the transmission selector in the REVERSE (R) position. The video system has a delay feature (vehicles with navigation) that keeps the image displayed for a period of time depending on what type of display unit is available on the vehicle.
For vehicles equipped with navigation, the image can be displayed in the ACM until the vehicle reaches 8 km/h (5 mph) when in DRIVE (D) after shifting out of REVERSE (R) gear. The image cannot be displayed if the vehicle is shifted into PARK (P).
- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. - If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool still does not communicate with the VCM: Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition key is in the RUN position. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) to diagnose no response from the PCM.
- Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network) . If the network passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the ACM.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC CHARTS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) . For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/cruise-control-systems/#multifunction-electronic-modules) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) .
Note. This module utilizes a 5-character DTC followed by a 2-character failure-type code. The failure-type code provides information about specific fault conditions such as opens, or shorts to ground. Continuous memory DTCs have an additional 2-character DTC status code suffix to assist in determining DTC history.

Pinpoint Test J: The Rear Video Is Inoperative
Refer to OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - PARKING AID for schematic and connector information.
When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the video camera receives voltage. For vehicles without navigation, with the gear selector in the REVERSE (R) position, a reverse voltage signal is sent to the auto-dimming interior mirror. For vehicles with navigation, with the gear selector in the REVERSE (R) position, a reverse signal is sent from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) to the Audio Control Module (ACM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN), enabling the system. The video signal from the video camera displays an image on the left portion of the auto-dimming interior mirror (for vehicles without navigation) or displays an image on the ACM (for vehicles with navigation).
- DTC C1001:01 (Vision System Camera: General Electrical Failure) - a continuous DTC that sets in the ACM when no video signal is detected for more than 3 seconds when the vehicle is in REVERSE (R).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Video camera
- Auto-dimming interior mirror (without navigation)
- ACM (With navigation)
Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
Note. Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .

- J1 VERIFY VEHICLE EQUIPMENT - NAVIGATION Check the vehicle for navigation. Is the vehicle equipped with navigation? Yes : GO to J7 . No : GO to J2.
- J2 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION Ignition OFF. Apply the parking brake. Ignition ON. Select REVERSE. Check the operation of the reversing lamps. Do the reversing lamps operate correctly? Yes : GO to J3. No : REFER to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting-system) .
- J3 CHECK FOR VIDEO CAMERA SIGNAL Observe the auto-dimming interior mirror. Select PARK. Select REVERSE. Does the auto-dimming interior mirror momentarily display a blue screen and then turns black? Yes : The auto-dimming interior mirror is functional. There is no signal from the video camera. GO to J9 . No : GO to J4.
- J4 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror C9039. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-1, circuit CBP41 (BU), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to J5. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J5 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR REVERSE INPUT CIRCUIT Select REVERSE. Measure the voltage between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-2, circuit CLS28 (BU/WH), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to J6. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J6 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable. Measure the resistance between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-3, circuit GD133 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new auto-dimming interior mirror. REFER to «REAR VIEW MIRRORS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/mirrors/#rear-view-mirror) . CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J7 CHECK FOR ACM DTCs Review the recorded DTCs from the ACM self-test. Is DTC C1001:01 or DTC U0155:00 present? Yes : For DTC C1001:01, GO to J9 . For DTC U0155:00, REFER to «INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/entertainment-systems/#information-system-and-entertainment-system) . No : GO to J8.
- J8 CHECK THE ACM DISPLAY Select REVERSE. Observe the ACM display. Does the ACM display "PLEASE CHECK SURROUNDINGS FOR SAFETY" at the top for the screen? Yes : GO to J9. No : INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to «INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/entertainment-systems/#information-system-and-entertainment-system) . TEST the system for normal operation.
- J9 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Video Camera C4357. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the video camera C4357-1, circuit CBP35 (YE/GY), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to J10. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J10 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable. Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-6, circuit GD149 (BK/GY), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to J11. No : REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J11 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR (WITHOUT NAVIGATION) OR ACM (WITH NAVIGATION) DISCONNECTED Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror C9039 (Without Navigation) or ACMC240C (With Navigation). Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and ground; and between the video camera C4357-5, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to J12. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J12 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VIDEO SHIELD Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-2, circuit DME19 (BK), harness side. Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-5, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side and the video camera C4357-2, circuit DME19 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to J13. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J13 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Connect: Negative Battery Cable. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and ground. Measure the voltage between the video camera C4357-5, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present on either circuit? Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to J14.
- J14 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror (Without Navigation) C9039. Disconnect: ACM (With Navigation) C240C. Connect a fused jumper wire between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-5, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side. For vehicles without navigation, measure the resistance between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-8, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-16, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side. For vehicles with navigation, measure the resistance between the ACMC240C-6, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side and the ACMC240C-1, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : REMOVE the jumper wire. CARRY OUT the video camera component test. If the camera is inoperative, INSTALL a new video camera. REFER to «VIDEO CAMERA»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to J15.
- J15 CHECK VIDEO (+) SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN For vehicles without navigation, measure the resistance between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-8, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side. For vehicles with navigation, measure the resistance between the ACMC240C-1, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : REPAIR circuit RME19 (BN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR circuit VME19 (BN). TEST the system for normal operation.
Pinpoint Test K: Poor Image Quality

- K1 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable. Disconnect: Video Camera C4357. Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-6, circuit GD149 (BK/GY), harness side and ground. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to K2. No : REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
- K2 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR (WITHOUT NAVIGATION) OR ACM (WITH NAVIGATION) DISCONNECTED Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror C9039 (Without Navigation) or ACMC240C (With Navigation). Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and ground; and between the video camera C4357-5, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to K3. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- K3 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VIDEO SHIELD Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-2, circuit DME19 (BK), harness side. Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-5, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side and the video camera C4357-2, circuit DME19 (BK), harness side. Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to K4. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- K4 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror (Without Navigation) C9039. Disconnect: ACM (With Navigation) C240C. Connect a fused jumper wire between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-5, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side. For vehicles without navigation, measure the resistance between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-8, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-16, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side. For vehicles with navigation, measure the resistance between the ACMC240C-6, circuit RME19 (BN/YE), harness side and the ACMC240C-1, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : REMOVE the jumper wire. CARRY OUT the video camera component test. If the camera is inoperative, INSTALL a new video camera. REFER to «VIDEO CAMERA»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to K5.
- K5 CHECK VIDEO (+) SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN For vehicles without navigation, measure the resistance between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-8, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side. For vehicles with navigation, measure the resistance between the ACMC240C-1, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side and the video camera C4357-4, circuit VME19 (BN), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : REPAIR circuit RME19 (BN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR circuit VME19 (BN). TEST the system for normal operation.

- L1 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION Check the operation of the reversing lamps. Do the reversing lamps operate correctly? Yes : DISCONNECT any aftermarket trailer lighting equipment. GO to L2. No : REFER to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting-system) .
- L2 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR REVERSE INPUT CIRCUIT Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror C9039. Measure the voltage between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-2, circuit CLS28 (BU/WH), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to L3.
- L3 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR DISPLAY OPERATION Disconnect the auto-dimming interior mirror display connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the auto-dimming interior mirror display connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new auto-dimming interior mirror. REFER to «REAR VIEW MIRRORS»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/mirrors/#rear-view-mirror) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

If the resistance values for the video camera are not within the specifications listed, the video camera is inoperative at this time. Install a new video camera. Refer to VIDEO CAMERA .

- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, engine off.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Place the gear shift in REVERSE (R).
- Verify that the Parking Aid Module (PAM) detects the specified object when placed in the 5 specified locations (P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5). If the PAM does not detect the object above, refer to «PARKING AID»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/collisionavoidance/#parking-aid-system) .

Removal and Installation
- Upload the PAM configuration information to the scan tool. For additional information, refer to Programmable Module Installation (PMI) in «MODULE CONFIGURATION»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-configuration-system) .
- If replacing the Parking Aid Module (PAM), proceed as follows: Disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the PAM push-pins. Remove the PAM.
- If replacing the parking aid speaker only, proceed as follows: Disconnect the parking aid speaker electrical connector. Disengage the parking aid speaker clips. Remove the parking aid speaker.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Download the PAM configuration information. For additional information, refer to «MODULE CONFIGURATION»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/communication-devices/#module-configuration-system) .

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/hoistjack/#jacking-lifting) .
- Disconnect the parking aid sensor electrical connector.
- Using a suitable tool (such as a flat-bladed screwdriver), gently pry the retaining tabs to release the sensor(s) from the parking aid sensor bezel. Remove the parking aid sensor(s).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Using the scan tool, verify that the parking aid sensor distance PIDs read no object present, and that the parking aid sensor attenuation PIDs read between 0.8-1.6 ms.
- Carry out the azimuth and elevation test.
