Safety Belt Warning Chime

The safety belt warning chime warns that the safety belt is not fastened. The safety belt warning chime will sound when the driver safety belt is not fastened and the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START.

The safety belt warning chime will stop sounding when

  1. The safety belt is fastened.
  2. The ignition switch is switched to the OFF/LOCK or ACC position.
  3. The chime has sounded for six seconds.

The safety belt warning chime inputs are

  1. Ignition switch START position (clutch pedal depressed)
  2. Ignition switch RUN position
  3. Driver safety belt switch

Output is the instrument cluster chime.

Belt Minder

The belt minder feature is configurable. Refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION . To configure without using a diagnostic tool, refer to BELT MINDER DEACTIVATING/ACTIVATING .

The belt minder feature supplements the current safety belt warning function. The belt minder feature is enabled after the current safety belt warning is complete. The belt minder reminds the driver that their safety belt is unbuckled by intermittently sounding a chime and illuminating the safety belt warning lamp in the instrument cluster once the vehicle speed has exceeded three mph. While activated, the belt minder alternates the chime and indicator from ON for six seconds to OFF for 30 seconds.

The belt minder reminder stops when

  1. The driver safety belt is buckled.
  2. The ignition is turned to OFF or ACC.
  3. Five minutes have elapsed since the belt minder has started.

Door Ajar Warning Chime

The door ajar warning chime warns that a door is ajar. The door ajar warning chime is a single chime with a one second duration. The door ajar chime will sound when the driver or passenger door becomes ajar while the ignition switch is in the RUN position.

The door ajar warning chime inputs are

  1. Ignition switch RUN position
  2. Door ajar switches

The output is the instrument cluster chime.

Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime

The key-in-ignition chime warns that the key is in the ignition when the driver door is ajar. The key-in-ignition warning chime will sound when all the following conditions are met

  1. The driver door is ajar.
  2. The key is in the ignition.
  3. The ignition switch is in the OFF/LOCK or ACC position.

The key-in-ignition warning chime will stop sounding when

  1. The driver door is closed.
  2. The key is removed from the ignition.
  3. The ignition switch is switched to the RUN position.

The key-in-ignition warning chime inputs are

  1. Ignition switch RUN position
  2. Ignition switch ACC position
  3. Key-in-ignition switch
  4. LH door ajar switch

Output is the instrument cluster chime.

Headlamp On Warning Chime

The headlamp on warning chime warns that the headlamps are on while the driver door is ajar. The headlamp on warning chime will sound when all the following conditions are met

  1. The driver door is ajar.
  2. The headlamp switch is in the PARK or HEAD position.
  3. The ignition switch state is in the OFF/LOCK position.
  4. The key is out of the ignition switch.

The headlamp on warning chime will stop sounding when any one of the conditions above are removed.

The headlamp on warning chime inputs are

  1. Ignition switch OFF/LOCK
  2. Headlamp switch
  3. Driver door ajar switch
  4. Key-in-ignition switch

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
  3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Check that the program card is correctly installed. Check the connections to the vehicle. Check the ignition switch position.
  4. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
  5. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: SCP or UBP = all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-210196) . No response/not equipped for instrument cluster, go to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER- CONVENTIONAL»(ref-210175) or «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER- NATURAL GAS»(ref-210176) . System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the instrument cluster.
  6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX»(ref-210178-S02726311212005121400000) to continue diagnostics.
  7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the «SYMPTOM CHART TO CONTINUE DIAGNOSTICS»(ref-210178-S42450585312005121400000) .

Preparation

  1. Before deactivating/activating the belt minder, set the parking brake.
  2. Place gearshift in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral position (manual transmission).
  3. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
  4. Close all the vehicle doors.
  5. Unbuckle the driver safety belt
  6. Place the parklamps/headlamps switch in the OFF position.

Deactivating/Activating

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. (Do not start the engine.)
  2. Wait until the safety belt warning lamp turns off (approximately one to two minutes).
  3. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled. This portion of the procedure can be done before or during belt minder warning activation.
  4. Turn the parklamps/headlamps on then off.
  5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times ending with the safety belt unbuckled. After this step the safety belt warning lamp will be illuminated for three seconds.
  6. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning lamp turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt. This will enable the belt minder if disabled or disable the belt minder if enabled.
  7. The following sequence of events confirm the belt minder is enabled: Flashing of the safety belt warning belt lamp four times per second for three seconds. Three seconds with the safety belt lamp off. Flashing the safety belt lamp four times per second for three seconds again.
  8. The safety belt lamp flashing four times per second for three seconds provides confirmation of belt minder disabled.
  9. After confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete.
