TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

The electronic ignition (EI) system is a coil-on-plug (COP) ignition system. The COP ignition system consists of the following components

  1. Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
  2. Ignition coils
  3. Spark plugs

The CKP sensor

  1. Is a variable reluctance sensor.
  2. Is triggered by a 36-minus-1 tooth trigger wheel mounted on the crankshaft.
  3. Provides base timing and crankshaft speed (rpm) to the powertrain control module (PCM). For additional information.

The eight separate ignition coils

  1. Change low voltage signals from the PCM to high voltage pulses.
  2. Produce the high voltage pulses to the spark plugs.
  3. Are connected directly to each spark plug.

The spark plugs

  1. Change a high voltage pulse into a spark which ignites the fuel and air mixture.
  2. Originally equipped on the vehicle have a platinum-enhanced electrode for long life.
