- Remove right wheel housing splash shield. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove lower generator bolts and lower vehicle. Remove upper generator bolt and remove generator. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten wheel lug nuts to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm). Tighten splash shield to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm). Tighten the 2 generator brace bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm). Tighten the castellated nut to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
Removal & Installation (2.5L)
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove radiator splash shield. Remove right front wheel. Remove right wheel housing splash shield. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove right outer tie rod end cotter pin and loosen nut. Using suitable tie rod end separator, separate tie rod end from steering knuckle.
- Remove nut and lift tie rod end from steering knuckle. Disconnect wiring from generator. Remove generator rear support bracket bolt from generator. Remove upper generator bolt, then lower generator bolt. Remove generator through wheel housing. To install, reverse removal procedure. Use new cotter pin on outer tie rod end. Tighten fasteners to specification. Tighten wheel lug nuts to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm). Tighten splash shield to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm). Tighten the 2 generator brace bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm). Tighten the castellated nut to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
- Remove generator. Carefully pry off regulator cover (if equipped), and remove Torx screws from regulator. Separate regulator and brush holder from generator.
- Holding regulator in one hand, pry off the cap covering "A" terminal screw head with a screwdriver. Remove 2 screws attaching regulator to brush holder ("A" and "F" terminal screws).
