Preliminary Checks

Confirm concern, operate all switches. Ensure battery is fully charged. Ensure windows are properly aligned. Check the following for possible cause of malfunction

  1. Blown fuse or faulty circuit breaker.
  2. Loose or corroded connectors.
  3. Open or shorted power supply.
  4. Poor ground connections.
  5. Damaged window control switch.
  6. Damaged window motor.

Confirm concern. Ensure window in question is properly aligned. Check the following for possible cause of malfunction

  1. Damaged track or regulator mechanism.
  2. Malfunctioning window motor.
  3. Open or shorted circuit.

Confirm concern. Ensure battery is fully charged. Check the following for possible cause of malfunction

  1. Damaged master window switch.
  2. Open or shorted power supply.
  3. Poor ground connections.
  4. Malfunctioning one-touch down module.

POWER WINDOW SWITCH

Remove window switch from vehicle. See appropriate POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between switch terminals in specified switch positions. See the POWER WINDOW SWITCH TESTING table below. (Scheme 2), (Scheme 3) or (Scheme 4). Replace power window switch if it does not test as specified.

POWER WINDOW MOTOR

Remove window motor from vehicle, see POWER WINDOW MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using fused jumper wires, connect a fully charged battery to motor terminals. Observe motor. Motor should operate smoothly. Reverse leads. Motor should operate in reverse direction. Replace window motor if it does not operate as specified.

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
  1. Check Power Supply And Ground - Remove master window switch. See «MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-28985-S12412933852001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, measure voltage at connector "B", between terminals No. 2 and 3 of switch connector. (Scheme 5) If reading is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If reading is more than 10 volts, go to step 7).
  2. Check Ground Continuity - Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance at connector "B", between terminal No. 3 and known-good ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black wire.
  3. Check Switch Power Supply - Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, measure voltage at connector "B", between terminal No. 2 and known-good ground. If reading is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If reading is more than 10 volts, go to step 7).
  4. Check Power Supply Fuse - Check for voltage at both sides of fuse No. 21 (40 amp), located in interior fuse box. If no voltage exists at either side of fuse, go to next step. If voltage exists at both sides, turn ignition off and go to step 6).
  5. Test For Short To Ground - Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove fuse No. 21. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance at connector "B", between terminal No. 2 and known-good ground. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair Purple/Blue wire for short to ground.
  6. Check Power Supply For Open - With fuse No. 21 removed, measure resistance between output side of fuse cavity and connector "B", terminal No. 2. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Purple/Blue wire.
  7. Check Window Switch Operation - Test power window switch. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-28985-S24595176142001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace switch if it does not test as specified. If switch tests okay, system is operational at this time.

SINGLE POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE

Note. See WIRING DIAGRAM for terminal number and wire color identification.

  1. Check Switch Power Supply - Remove master window switch. See «MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-28985-S12412933852001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Leave wire harness connected. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, attach negative lead to known-good ground. Probe each terminal of switch connector with remaining lead while actuating switch as specified. See «SWITCH CIRCUIT TEST»(ref-28985-S24125848702001010800000) table. If battery voltage exists at specified terminals, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at specified terminals, replace master window switch.   2. Check Motor Power Supply - Gain access to wire harness connector of inoperative power window motor. Unplug connector. Probe each terminal of motor connector (harness side) while actuating related switch as specified. See «MOTOR CIRCUIT TEST»(ref-28985-S04645215202001010800000) table. If battery voltage does not exist at specified terminals, go to next step. If battery voltage exists at specified terminals, go to step 4).   3. Check Circuit Continuity - Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug master window switch. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance of suspect circuit between switch harness connectors. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit.
  4. Check Window Motor - Using fused jumper wire, connect one end to battery positive terminal. Connect remaining end to either terminal of window motor connector. Momentarily connect a second jumper wire between a known-good ground and remaining window motor connector terminal. Window motor should operate smoothly. Reverse leads. Window motor should operate in reverse direction. Replace window motor if it does not operate as specified.

ONE-TOUCH DOWN FEATURE INOPERATIVE

  1. Check Power Supply To One-Touch Module - Gain access to one-touch module. Leave wire harness connected. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, measure voltage between Black wire and Purple/Orange wire of one-touch module connector. If reading is not battery voltage, go to next step. If reading is battery voltage, go to step 3).
  2. Check One-Touch Module Ground - Turn ignition off. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between Black wire of one-touch module connector and known-good ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire.
  3. Check One-Touch Module Switch Signal - Using master window switch, actuate driver's side window in DOWN position. If window does not move, see the appropriate «SINGLE POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE»(ref-28985-S29742576922001010800000) test. If window moves down, replace one-touch module.
