CHECK ENGINE OR SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING LIGHT

The CHECK ENGINE and SERVICE ENGINE SOON warning lights indicate malfunctions in the electronic engine control system. If functioning correctly, the light comes on when ignition switch is turned to the ON position and goes out after engine is started. If light fails to glow with ignition switch or remains on when running, service is needed.

BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

The BRAKE light indicates two things: either the parking brake is on or the brake fluid level is low. The light should come on briefly when ignition switch is turned to the ON position, and go out after engine is started, and the parking brake is released. If the light stays on, servicing is needed.

CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT

This light is shown as a battery symbol on the instrument cluster. It will illuminate briefly when ignition is turned to ON or START position, and should go out when the engine starts and alternator begins to charge. If light stays on or comes on when the engine is running, the battery is not being charged and the electrical system needs service.

BATTERY VOLTAGE GAUGE

Gauge should register in the NORMAL range during operation. If electrical accessories run when the engine is off or at low idle, the pointer may move to the lower end of the gauge. If pointer falls below NORMAL range during regular driving, the system should be checked.

BATTERY CHARGE INDICATOR

This feature indicates battery charging or discharging. During start-up or heavy electrical usage, pointer may indicate discharge. Under normal driving conditions pointer should read slightly charging. If discharging is indicated during normal vehicle operation, have the electrical system checked.

ENGINE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE

This gauge indicates engine oil pressure, not the amount of oil in the engine. However, oil level may affect oil pressure. Under normal operating conditions, gauge should register within NORMAL range. If gauge drops below NORMAL operating band, stop immediately and check the oil level.

CAUTIONDO NOT operate vehicle if oil pressure gauge continues to register below NORMAL operating range.

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE

Gauge should register within NORMAL band under regular operating conditions. If gauge rises into HOT range, stop the vehicle, let the engine cool and check the coolant level.

REAR ABS WARNING LIGHT

If functioning correctly, this light comes on when ignition switch is turned to the ON position and goes out after engine is started. If this light glows while driving, the rear anti-lock brake system is inoperative because of a system malfunction. Service is needed. If a fault occurs in the anti-lock system, the normal brake function remains operational.

EMISSIONS MAINTENANCE WARNING LIGHT

This light is used on certain vehicles to indicate when maintenance is required for the emission control devices. If functioning correctly, this light comes on when ignition switch is turned to the ON position and goes out after engine is started. If the light glows continuously while driving, have the emissions control system serviced.

FUEL FILTER RESTRICTION LIGHT (DIESEL ENGINES)

If this light glows during normal operation, there is a restriction in the fuel filter system. Fuel filter should be changed as soon as is practical.

WATER IN FUEL LIGHT (DIESEL)

This light will glow when the fuel filter/separator has collected a significant quantity of water. If this light glows during operation, stop the vehicle, shut off the engine and drain the filter bowl. Allowing water to remain in the system could result in extensive damage to the fuel injection system.
