- To determine if piston-to-cylinder clearance is within specification, measure piston skirt diameter at 90-degree angle to piston pin, .650" (16.5 mm) from bottom of oil ring groove.
- Measure cylinder bore at top, center and bottom of cylinder bore. Ensure piston clearance is within specification. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS table and «CYLINDER BLOCK»(ref-54546-S07916365112001011700000) table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. If measurements are not within specification, replace components and/or bore and hone cylinders as necessary. Oversize pistons are available in .010" (.25 mm) and .020" (.51 mm).
