SIDE WINDOWS
Power window system consists of a reversible 12-volt motor and window regulator assembly in each front door, a control switch on each door, wiring harness and connectors. Master control switch, mounted on driver's door, controls driver and passenger windows. Right control switch, mounted on passenger door, controls passenger window only.
TAILGATE WINDOW (BRONCO)
Power tailgate window can be controlled by switch on lower left face of instrument panel or key switch on tailgate. Latch switch at tailgate prevents power window operation when tailgate is open.
Both Windows Inoperative
Check circuit breaker No. 14 in fuse panel. If circuit breaker opens when either window is operated, check window motor current draw. See WINDOW MOTOR TEST in this article. Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire at master window switch. Check for continuity between Black wire at master control switch and ground.
Left Window Inoperative
Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire at master control switch. Check master control switch operation. Check for open in Yellow wire and White/Black wire between master control switch and left window motor. Using 12-volt source, check left window motor operation.
Right Window Inoperative (From Master Control Switch)
Check master control switch operation.
Right Window Inoperative (From Right Control Switch)
Check for open in Light Blue/Black wire between fuse panel and right control switch. Check right control switch operation.
- Check circuit breaker No. 14 in fuse panel. If circuit breaker opens when either window is operated, check window motor current draw. See WINDOW MOTOR TEST in this article.
- Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire at master control switch. Check continuity of Black wire between master control switch and ground. Check master control switch operation.
One Window Inoperative
Check for supply voltage at appropriate control switch. Check continuity of wiring between appropriate control switch and window motor. Check ground circuit in master control switch. Check window motor operation.
Tailgate Window Inoperative (Bronco)
- Check circuit breaker No. 14 in fuse panel. Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire between fuse panel and instrument panel switch. Check continuity of Black wire between instrument panel switch and ground.
- Check instrument panel switch, tailgate latch switch and tailgate key switch operation. Check continuity of all wiring circuits.
Both Windows Inoperative From Either Switch
Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire at master window switch. If there is no voltage, check circuit breaker No. 14 in fuse panel. Check continuity of Black wire between master window switch and ground.
One Or Both Windows Inoperative From Master Window Switch
- Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire at master window switch. Check continuity of Black wire between master window switch and ground.
- If left window is inoperative, check for open in White/Black wire and Yellow wire between master window switch and left window motor. Check master window switch and left window motor operation.
- If right window is inoperative, check for open in Red/Black wire and Red/Yellow wire between master window switch, right window switch and right window motor. Check for proper master window switch operation. Check right window motor operation.
Right Window Inoperative From Right Window Switch
Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire at right window switch. Check for open in Red/Yellow wire and Yellow/Red wire between right window switch and right window motor. Check right window switch and right window motor operation.
Check for voltage on Light Blue/Black wire at master window switch. If there is no voltage, check circuit breaker No. 14 in fuse panel. Check continuity of Black wire between master window switch and ground.
Circuit Breaker Opens When One Window Is Operated
Check window motor current draw. See WINDOW MOTOR TEST in this article.
Check master window switch operation. Check continuity of Yellow wire and White/Black wire between master window switch and left window motor. Check left window motor operation.
Right Window Inoperative
Check master window switch operation. Check continuity of Yellow/Black wire and Red/Black wire between master window switch and right window switch. Check continuity of Yellow/Red wire and Red/Yellow wire between right window switch and right window motor. Check right window motor operation.
