RIDING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

Note. On vehicles with electronic chassis controls, all systems should be functional before attempting riding height or wheel alignment adjustment.

Before adjusting alignment, check riding height. Riding height must be checked with vehicle on level floor and tires properly inflated. Bounce vehicle several times and allow suspension to settle.

Visually inspect vehicle for signs of abnormal height from front to rear or side to side. Check passenger and luggage compartments for extra-heavy items and remove if present. If riding height is not within specification, check, repair or replace suspension components. See RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS table. (Scheme 1)

Note. For vehicles not listed, riding height between left and right side of vehicle should vary less than 1" (25.4 mm).

RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS

Riding Height Measuring Points. Scheme 1

Laser & Talon

Floor jack should only be used under the mid point of center member (front) or under the reinforced jacking bracket, located below rear of fuel tank. (Scheme 4)

Monaco & Premier

DO NOT raise vehicle with floor jack under axle housing, body side sills or front suspension arms. Use sub-frame rail lift points only. (Scheme 5)

All Others

Floor jack may be used at locations shown in illustrations to raise vehicle. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3). Floor jack lifting points are located at center of front crossmember (inboard) and at center of rear axle.

EMERGENCY JACKING

Scissor jack receptacles are located at body sills. DO NOT use floor jack at scissor jack locations or body damage may occur. Ensure scissor jack flange engages body sill receptacle and locator pin. Always block opposite wheels and jack on level surface.

  1. Bumper jack should only be used to change flat tire. DO NOT use bumper jack from any other vehicle. If bumper jack is used to raise vehicle for any other reason, subframe rails must be supported with jack stands.
  2. Ensure ground supporting jack is firm and level. If vehicle is not supplied with a bumper-type jack, DO NOT lift vehicle by bumper. Failure to use correct equipment could result in vehicle falling off support. Always block wheels.

LIFTING VEHICLE WITH HOIST

CAUTIONIf removing rear axle, fuel tank, spare tire or liftgate Place jack stands under vehicle or add weight on rear end of vehicle to prevent tipping when center of gravity shifts.

Frame Contact Hoist

Frame contact hoist must be equipped with proper adapters to support vehicle in correct locations. On Monaco and Premier models, vehicle can be raised on swiveling arm or drive-on hoist. If using swiveling arm hoist, position lifting pads evenly on subframe rails. Hoist must be equipped with proper adapters so vehicle will be supported at points marked. (Scheme 5)

Axle Contact Hoist (Monaco & Premier)

The use of axle contact hoist is not recommended.

Axle Contact Hoist (All Others)

Axle contact hoist may be used on points shown in illustrations. DO NOT pick up vehicle at front lower control arms or rear trailing arm suspension.

Dynasty, Fifth Avenue, Imperial, New Yorker, Shadow, Sundance

Loosen lower strut attaching bolts enough to allow for adjustment. (Scheme 6) Pull out or push in top of tire until correct camber is obtained. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS. Tighten attaching bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.

Laser, Monaco, Premier & Talon

Camber is factory preset and cannot be adjusted. If camber is not within specification, replace or repair bent or broken parts as necessary. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS .

Acclaim, LeBaron, Daytona & Spirit

Loosen lower strut attaching/adjusting cam bolts. Turn cam bolts to obtain correct camber. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS. Tighten attaching bolts to specification. (Scheme 6) See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.

Scheme 6: Acclaim, LeBaron, Daytona & Spirit

CASTER

Caster is factory set and cannot be adjusted. If caster is not to specification, replace or repair damaged, bent or broken parts as necessary. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS .

TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT

With steering wheel centered, loosen tie rod end lock nuts. While holding steering rod dust boots stationary, rotate tie rods to obtain specified toe-in. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS. (Scheme 7) Tighten lock nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
