Deceleration Control System Dodge Ram I

Testing & Diagnostics 1 illustration ~144 words

DESCRIPTION

Deceleration systems are used to reduce HC emissions.

SLOW-CUT SOLENOID VALVE (SCSV)

Slow-cut solenoid valve mounted in carburetor is used to control air/fuel ratio during deceleration. This provides better fuel economy and prevents overheating of catalysts.

Manual Transmission Only

This valve supplies additional air to intake manifold to prevent overrich mixture under sudden deceleration or shifting. (Scheme 25)

DASHPOT

Dashpot delays closing of throttle valve to its normal idling position. This delay absorbs shock at the time of deceleration for better driving comfort.

MIXTURE CONTROL VALVE

Check valve after engine is warmed to operating temperature. Remove air filter. Start engine and open and close throttle valve quickly. Mixture control valve should pop out once and quickly close. Air suction noise should be heard. With engine at idle, valve should remain closed and no air suction should be heard.
