INITIAL CHECKS

  1. Visually inspect speed proportional steering system for damaged components or disconnected connectors.
  2. Connect Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) to data link connector, located under dash, near steering column. If DRB does not power up, check power and ground supplies to data link connector. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using DRB, select Body Control Module (BCM). If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, perform VEHICLE COMMUNICATION test. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Read and record all speed proportional steering diagnostic messages. If diagnostic messages exist, go to appropriate self-diagnostic test. See «DIAGNOSTIC TESTS»(ref-91408-S27476955282001031300000) . If diagnostic messages do not exist, go to «TEST 5A»(ref-91408-S19485168482001031300000) .
