Concorde, Intrepid, LHS & 300M

  1. Attach one end of a 48" long by.250" inside diameter clear air bleed hose to the air bleed valve. (Scheme 91) On 2.7L, air bleed valve is located on coolant outlet on front of engine. On 3.2L and 3.5L, air bleed valve is located on lower intake manifold. On all models, air bleed hose is used to prevent coolant from contacting accessory drive belt when bleeding cooling system.
  2. Route air bleed hose away from accessory drive belt, drive pulleys and electric cooling fan. Place other end of air bleed hose in coolant container. Open air bleed valve.
  3. Remove cap and install Funnel (8195) in coolant reservoir bottle. (Scheme 91) Use clip attached to funnel to pinch overflow hose closed. (Scheme 91) The overflow hose fits between the 2 chambers on the coolant reservoir bottle. CAUTION: Manufacturer recommends using only Mopar Extended Life Coolant or equivalent with a 50/50 concentration coolant and distilled water. This coolant contains corrosion inhibitors that permit extended service drain intervals. DO NOT mix coolants. If coolant other than Mopar Extended Life Coolant or equivalent is used, the service drain interval will be reduced.
  4. Pour a 50/50 concentration of coolant and distilled water into the large area on the funnel. The smaller area on the funnel will allow the air to escape when filling cooling system. Slowly fill cooling system until a steady stream of coolant flows from air bleed hose.
  5. Close air bleed valve. Continue filling cooling system until coolant level is at the top of the funnel. Remove clip from overflow hose. This will allow coolant in the funnel to flow into the overflow chamber on the coolant reservoir bottle.
  6. Remove funnel from coolant reservoir bottle. Install cap on coolant reservoir bottle. Remove air bleed hose. The engine cooling system will bleed any remaining air into the coolant reservoir bottle within about one hour of normal driving. As a result, coolant level in the coolant reservoir bottle will decrease. NOTE: Coolant reservoir bottle contains 2 chambers. Coolant will normally be in the inside (smaller) of the 2 chambers. The outside chamber (overflow chamber) is only to recover coolant in the event of an overheat condition and should normally be empty during normal operation. If coolant exists in the outside chamber during normal operation, disconnect end of overflow hose at neck of coolant reservoir bottle. Lower overflow hose and allow coolant to drain from outside chamber into a coolant container until outside chamber is empty. Reinstall overflow hose.

All Others

No special coolant system bleeding procedure is required.

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE

Note. If replacing Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the correct vehicle mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be programmed into the PCM to prevent Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from being set in the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) module. To program PCM and clear DTCs from ABS and SRS modules, see PCM PROGRAMMING under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS. If replacing Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on models equipped with a Smart Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), the secret key data must also be updated to enable engine starting. To update secret key data, see PCM PROGRAMMING under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS.

Procedure For Programming PCM & Clearing DTCs From ABS & SRS Modules (Breeze, Cirrus, Concorde, Intrepid, LHS, Neon, Sebring Convertible, Stratus & 300M)

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 92), (Scheme 93) or (Scheme 94).
  2. Using scan tool, enter correct VIN and mileage into PCM. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, clear DTCs from ABS and SRS modules.

Procedure For Updating Secret Key Data (Breeze, Cirrus, Concorde, Intrepid, LHS, Neon, Sebring Convertible, Stratus & 300M)

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel. (Scheme 92), (Scheme 93) or (Scheme 94).
  2. Using scan tool, enter correct VIN and mileage into PCM. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, clear DTCs from ABS and SRS modules.
  3. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, SKIM then MISC. Place SKIM in secured access mode, using appropriate PIN code for vehicle. Select UPDATE SECRET KEY DATA. Data will be transferred from SKIM to PCM. If this step is not performed, vehicle will not start with new PCM.
  4. If 3 attempts are made incorrectly to enter PIN, secured access mode will be locked out for one hour. To exit lock out mode, leave ignition in ON position for one hour. Ensure battery voltage is maintained with battery charger, if necessary

A/C PRESSURE SENSOR

Note. A/C pressure sensor may also be referred to as A/C pressure transducer or A/C pressure switch. A/C system does not need to be discharged to replace A/C pressure sensor.

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Note. Ambient temperature sensor may also be referred to as ambient/battery temperature sensor.

BRAKE SWITCH

Note. Brake switch may also be referred to as brakelight switch or stoplight switch.

MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP)/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR

Note. MAP/Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor may also be referred to as MAP/IAT sensor, MAP/AIR sensor or IAT/MAP sensor.

PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH

Note. Park/neutral switch may also be referred to as park/neutral position switch. On Neon, a park/neutral switch is located on side of transaxle. On all other models, park/neutral switch is located on valve body of transaxle and may be referred to as transmission range sensor.

TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR

Note. Transmission range sensor may also be referred to as park/neutral switch or park/neutral position switch.

EVAP PURGE SOLENOID

Note. EVAP purge solenoid may also be referred to as proportional purge solenoid.

PROPORTIONAL PURGE SOLENOID

Note. Proportional purge solenoid may also be referred to as EVAP purge solenoid.

FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

WARNINGAlways release fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components.
CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Avenger & Sebring Coupe

  1. Remove rear seat cushion. Remove protector for access to fuel pump electrical connector. (Scheme 95) Fuel pump electrical connector is located on top of fuel tank. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector from wiring harness.
  2. Start engine and allow engine to idle until engine stalls. Turn ignition off. Reinstall fuel pump electrical connector, protector and rear seat cushion. Fuel system components may now be serviced. Cover fuel lines with shop towel before disconnecting, as some residual fuel pressure may exist.

Remove fuel pump relay from relay Power Distribution Center (PDC). See AUTO SHUTDOWN (ASD) RELAY & FUEL PUMP RELAY under MOTORS, RELAYS & SOLENOIDS. Start and run engine until it stalls. Attempt to start engine until it no longer runs. Turn ignition off.
