Entering Self-Diagnostics

  1. Set A/C-heater control panel to display degrees Fahrenheit. Start engine (vehicle not moving) and set temperature control to 75°F. To enter self-diagnostic mode, press and hold floor, mix, and defrost buttons simultaneously. (Схема №1) When ATC panel display begins to blink, release all 3 buttons.
  2. The display will continue to blink until it completes its tests and calibrations. Any diagnostic trouble codes stored in BCM that are related to ATC will be displayed when blinking stops. If there are no trouble codes, system will return to normal operation.
  3. Trouble codes will appear on display in numerical form. Only one number will be displayed at a time. Press panel (vent) button to scroll through any additional trouble codes. See «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES»(ref-10857-S28428941032001011200000) table for list of codes.

Exiting Self-Diagnostics & Clearing Codes

To exit self-diagnostics, turn ignition off. To clear codes, disconnect negative battery cable for at least 10 minutes.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

TEST 15E - OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Note. Perform TEST 15A or 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. Read OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. If display is 195°F, go to next step. If display is not as specified, go to step 4).
  2. Unplug ambient temperature sensor, located behind front bumper, left of center. Turn ignition off, then on. Read OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. If display is not temperature below 0°F, go to next step. If displayed temperature is below 0°F, replace sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Turn ignition off. Unplug Gray BCM connector, located above right kick panel. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Violet/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Light Green wire. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Unplug ambient temperature sensor, located behind front bumper, left of center. Connect jumper wire between harness connector terminals. Turn ignition off, then on. Read OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. If display is not 195°F, go to next step. If display is 195°F, replace sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Connect jumper wire between Violet/Light Green wire and ground at harness connector. Turn ignition off, then on. Read OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. If display is not 195°F, go to next step. If displayed temperature is 195°F, repair open Gray/Tan wire between sensor and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Turn ignition off. Unplug Gray BCM connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of Violet/Light Green wire between sensor connector and terminal No. 10 of Gray BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Violet/Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 17A - AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL

  1. Ensure system contains proper refrigerant charge. Connect DRB. Turn ignition on. Retrieve codes. If no trouble codes exist, go to next step. If trouble codes exist, perform TEST 19A.
  2. Start engine. Press one ATC head switch at a time while observing ATC control panel. If control panel is not completely blank, go to next step. If control panel is completely blank, turn engine off, turn ignition on, and perform TEST 18A.
  3. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. If beep occurred each time a button was pressed, go to next step. If beeps did not occur as specified, perform TEST 20A.
  4. Attempt to operate rear window defroster. If it works properly, go to next step. If it does not work properly, repair as necessary.
  5. If all functions are normal except that blower runs at high speed only, perform TEST 17B. If operation is not as specified, go to next step.
  6. If blower motor is not off at all times, go to next step. If blower motor is off at all times, perform TEST 22A.
  7. Start engine. Turn A/C on. Rotate fan speed control. If fan speed operation is normal, go to next step. If fan speed is not as specified, perform TEST 17E.
  8. If no problems exist with aspirator and in-vehicle temperature sensor, go to next step. If problems exist, perform TEST 23A.
  9. Press A/C button. If compressor clutch engages, go to next step. If compressor clutch does not engage, perform TEST 24A.
  10. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. If all Yellow switch lights operate, go to next step. If any switch light does not operate, replace ATC control. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  11. Using DRB, command ATC mode door to position between panel and defrost. If voltage display changes with door position, go to next step. If voltage display does not change, perform TEST 17C.
  12. Using DRB, command ATC blend door to position between hot and cold. If voltage display changes with door position, go to next step. If voltage display does not change, perform TEST 17D.
  13. Using DRB, command ATC Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) sequence. If all segments are operative, go to next step. If any segment is inoperative, replace ATC control. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  14. If ATC system modulates blower operation on hot sunny days as vehicle operates in sun or shade, go to next step. If blower operation is not as specified, perform TEST 17F.
  15. Turn on parking lights. Operate instrument light dimmer control. If no problem with panel lights exists, go to next step. If problem exists with ATC head panel lights, repair panel light circuit.
  16. Turn off parking lights. Start engine. Again retrieve trouble codes. If no codes exist, go to next step. If codes exist, perform TEST 19A.
  17. All monitored electrical circuits are okay. Vehicle may have mechanical or thermal A/C-heater system component problem.

TEST 17B - BLOWER RUNS AT HIGH SPEED ONLY

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM, located above right kick panel. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Black wire in cavity No. 21 of Beige BCM harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open Black wire to ground.
  2. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Black/Light Green wire in cavity No. 14 of Beige BCM harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open Black/Light Green wire to ground.
  3. Unplug wiring from ATC power module, located next to blower motor connector. Turn ignition on. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Black BCM connector cavity No. 4 (Red/Light Green wire). If display is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If display is not as specified, repair short to voltage on Red/Light Green wire.
  4. Reconnect ATC power module wiring. Connect jumper wire between ground and Red/Light Green wire at Black BCM connector cavity No. 4. If blower motor still runs at full speed, go to next step. If blower does not run at full speed, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Unplug ATC power module. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of Red/Light Green wire between Black BCM connector cavity No. 4 and blower motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair Red/Light Green wire.
  6. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Black wire at ATC power module connector. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire to ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace ATC power module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 17C - INOPERATIVE MODE DOOR

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Using DRB, calibrate ATC doors. Using external DVOM, backprobe Dark Green/Yellow wire at 10-pin HVAC connector, located near plenum. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts all the time, go to next step. If voltage remains above 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Dark Green/Yellow wire, and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. Observe voltmeter while pressing panel, defrost, and bi-level switches, one at a time, on ATC panel. If voltage remains less than 10 volts as any switch is pressed, go to next step. If voltage increases to above 10 volts as each switch is pressed, inspect mode door for free movement. If mode door is okay, replace mode door actuator. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Using external DVOM, backprobe Black BCM connector cavity No. 16 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). BCM is located above right kick panel. Observe voltmeter while pressing panel, defrost, and bi-level switches, one at a time, on ATC head. If voltage remains less than 10 volts as any switch is pressed, go to next step. If voltage increases to above 10 volts as each switch is pressed, repair open Dark Green/Yellow wire between 10-pin connector and Black BCM connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Turn ignition off. Unplug Black BCM connector. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Black BCM connector cavity No. 16 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Green/Yellow wire, replace BCM and perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM and perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 17D - INOPERATIVE BLEND DOOR

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Using DRB, calibrate ATC doors. Using external DVOM, backprobe Dark Blue/Red wire at 10-pin HVAC connector, located near plenum. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts all the time, go to next step. If voltage remains above 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Dark Blue/Red wire, and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. Observe voltmeter while rotating temperature control knob from cold to hot position. If voltage remains less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage increases to above 10 volts, inspect blend door for free movement. If door is okay, replace blend door actuator. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Using external DVOM, backprobe Black BCM connector cavity No. 20 (Dark Blue/Red wire). BCM is located above right kick panel. Observe voltmeter while operating temperature control knob through its full range. If voltage remains less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage increases to above 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/Red wire between 10-pin connector and Black BCM connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Turn ignition off. Unplug Black BCM connector. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Black BCM connector cavity No. 20 (Dark Blue/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Blue/Red wire, replace BCM, and perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM and perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 17E - CHARGING SYSTEM TEST

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

If charging system maintains constant voltage, replace ATC power module. If charging system does not maintain constant voltage, repair charging system.

TEST 17F - SUNLOAD SENSOR TEST

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. Read ATC SUN SENSOR. If DRB displays less than SUNLOAD: 4.9 V, system is operating properly at this time. If display is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Place a trouble light with a 50-watt or larger bulb on windshield, facing sunload sensor. Read ATC SUN SENSOR. If DRB displays less than SUNLOAD: 4.9 V, system is operating properly at this time. If display is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Unplug sunload temperature sensor, located above center of instrument panel. Connect jumper wire between Dark Blue/Red and Gray/Tan wires at sunload sensor harness connector. Read ATC SUN SENSOR. If DRB does not display less than SUNLOAD: 0.2 V, go to next step. If DRB displays less than SUNLOAD: 0.2 V, replace sunload sensor and perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Remove jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between Dark Blue/Red wire at sensor connector and ground. If DRB does not display less than SUNLOAD: 0.2 V, go to next step. If DRB displays below SUNLOAD: 0.2 V, repair open Gray/Tan wire between sensor connector and terminal No. 15 of Beige BCM connector, located above right kick panel.
  5. Remove jumper wire. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM connectors. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of Dark Blue wire between sunload sensor harness connector and cavity No. 20 of Grey BCM connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Dark Blue wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM and perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 18A - IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 17A or 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. If performing this test to diagnose a trouble code, go to next step. If performing this test for another reason, go to step 6).
  2. Using DRB, erase all trouble codes. Start and run engine for 2 minutes. Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. If any of the following codes exist, go to next step. If none of them exist, system is operating normally at this time. ATC HEAD COMM TEST FAILED ATC HEAD STATUS MESSAGE NOT RECEIVED ATC HEAD CCD COMM FAILURE STATUS 26 NOT RECEIVED
  3. Turn ignition off. Inspect fuse No. 6. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 6).
  4. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe load side of fuse No. 6 (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace fuse. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Unplug ATC head connector. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe harness connector terminal No. 5 (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in White wire between fuse No. 6 and ATC control. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace ATC head and fuse No. 6. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Reinstall fuse. Turn ignition on. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, probe load side of fuse No. 6 (White wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open circuit between fuse No. 6 and ignition switch.
  7. Unplug ATC head connector. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe terminal No. 5 (White wire) on ATC harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair White wire between ignition switch and ATC head.
  8. Turn ignition off. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe terminal No. 2 (Black wire) of ATC control. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire to ground.
  9. Ensure courtesy light switch is off. Wait at least one minute. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe terminal No. 6 (Black/Light Green wire) of ATC head. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Light Green wire to ground.
  10. Reconnect wiring to ATC panel. Turn ignition on. Press rear window defroster button. If defroster relay clicks, perform TEST 25A. If relay does not click, replace ATC head.

TEST 19A - READING BCM TROUBLE CODES

Note. Perform TEST 17A or 25B before proceeding with this test.

The following table lists trouble codes that may occur on the vehicle. These codes may occur separately or in combination. When diagnosing a system with multiple apparent problems, start at the top of the list, perform the test indicated, make repairs, and verify that the failure has been corrected.

READING BCM TROUBLE CODES

TEST 19B - ENGINE TEMP MSG TEST FAILED

Note. Perform TEST 19A before proceeding with this test. A low battery or momentary bus failure could cause this code to set.

  1. Connect DRB. Erase all codes. Select POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM). If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, go to step 3). If NO RESPONSE appears on display, go to next step.
  2. Inspect Violet/Brown and White/Black wires between DLC and PCM for open circuit or shorts. Repair as necessary. If wires are okay, replace PCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Retrieve body computer codes. If ENGINE TEMP MSG TEST FAILED code returns, replace PCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If ENGINE TEMP MSG TEST FAILED does not return, system is operating properly at this time. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 20A - ATC HEAD SWITCHES

Note. Perform TEST 17A or 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. Read ATC HEAD PANEL SWITCH. If PANEL SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. Read ATC HEAD PANEL SWITCH while pressing panel button. If DRB display is not PANEL SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is PANEL SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Release panel button. Read ATC HEAD BILEVEL SWITCH. If BILEVEL SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Read ATC HEAD BILEVEL SWITCH while pressing bi-level button. If DRB display is not BILEVEL SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is BILEVEL SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Release bi-level button. Read ATC HEAD RECIRCULATION SWITCH. If RECIRC SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Read ATC HEAD RECIRCULATION SWITCH while pressing recirculation button. If DRB display is not RECIRC SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is RECIRC SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  7. Release recirculation button. Read ATC HEAD REAR DEFROSTER SWITCH. If REAR DEF SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  8. Read ATC HEAD REAR DEFROSTER SWITCH while pressing rear defroster button. If DRB display is not REAR SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is REAR DEF SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  9. Release rear defroster button. Read ATC HEAD FLOOR SWITCH. If FLOOR SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  10. Read ATC HEAD FLOOR SWITCH while pressing floor button. If DRB display is not FLOOR SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is FLOOR SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  11. Release floor button. Read ATC HEAD MIX (FLOOR AND DEFROST) SWITCH. If MIX SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  12. Read ATC HEAD MIX (FLOOR AND DEFROST) SWITCH while pressing mix (floor and defrost) button. If DRB display is not MIX SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is MIX SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  13. Release mix button. Read ATC HEAD A/C SWITCH. If A/C SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  14. Read ATC A/C SWITCH while pressing A/C button. If DRB display is not A/C SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is A/C SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  15. Release A/C button. Read ATC HEAD WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER SWITCH. If DEFROST SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  16. Read ATC WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER SWITCH while pressing windshield defroster button. If DRB display is not DEFROST SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is DEFROST SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  17. Release windshield defroster button. Read ATC HEAD OFF SWITCH. If OFF SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  18. Read ATC OFF SWITCH while pressing ATC head off button. If DRB display is not OFF SW: OPEN, go to next step. If display is OFF SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  19. Release off button. Read ATC HEAD AUTO SWITCH. If AUTO SW: OPEN appears on display, go to next step. If display is otherwise, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  20. Read ATC AUTO SWITCH while pressing ATC head auto button. If DRB display is not AUTO SW: OPEN, system is okay. If display is AUTO SW: OPEN, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 22A - INOPERATIVE BLOWER MOTOR

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. Read IGNITION VOLTAGE. If DRB display is above IGN VOLTAGE: 10.0V, go to next step. If ignition voltage is not as specified, perform TEST 54A.
  2. Remove and inspect fuse No. 21. If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 5).
  3. Turn ignition off. Unplug ATC power module connector, located near blower motor connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe harness connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire). If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Green wire. Replace fuse.
  4. Unplug blower motor connector. Replace fuse No. 21. Perform TEST 22B.
  5. Reinstall fuse No. 21. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe ignition switch output terminal on fuse No. 21 (Black/Orange wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Black/Orange wire between ignition switch and fuse panel. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Unplug ATC power module connector, located near blower motor connector. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe harness connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Dark Green wire between fuse panel and ATC power module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  7. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe harness connector terminal No. 3 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire to ground. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  8. Reconnect wiring to ATC power module. Unplug Black connector from BCM, located above right kick panel. If blower does not run at full speed, go to next step. If blower runs at full speed, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  9. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe ATC power module harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Light Green wire). If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Red/Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  10. Turn ignition off. Unplug blower motor connector. Connect jumper wire between Black wire at blower motor connector and Black wire at ATC power module connector. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire) of ATC harness connector and Dark Green wire of blower motor connector. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds, then off. If fuse No. 21 blows, or blower doesn't run at high speed, go to next step. If blower runs at high speed without blowing fuse No. 21, replace ATC power module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  11. Remove jumper wires. Remove blower motor. Inspect blower wheel for binding or damage. Repair as necessary. If no damage or binding exists, replace blower motor. Perform VERIFICATION Test.

TEST 22B - BLOWER MOTOR

Note. Perform TEST 22A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug blower motor connector. Connect jumper wire between Black wire at blower motor connector and Black wire at ATC power module connector. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire) of ATC harness connector and Dark Green wire of blower motor connector. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds, then off. If fuse No. 21 blows, or blower doesn't run at high speed, go to next step. If blower runs at high speed without blowing fuse No. 21, replace ATC power module. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. Remove jumper wires. Remove blower motor. Inspect blower wheel for binding or damage. Repair as necessary. If no damage or binding exists, replace blower motor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 23A - ASPIRATOR MOTOR CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Turn off courtesy light switch. Remove trim plate over glove box. If both seals between motor and air duct, and between motor and trim plate are intact, go to next step. Replace seals if missing or damaged. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. Turn ignition off. Close all doors. Wait 2 minutes. Open driver's door. Observe aspirator motor for at least one minute. If motor does not run for about 30 seconds, then stop, go to next step. If motor operation is as specified, system is okay. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. If courtesy lights operate properly, go to next step. If courtesy lights do not operate properly, repair as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. If aspirator motor runs at all times, go to next step. If motor does not run all the time, go to step 6).
  5. Unplug Black connector from BCM, located above right kick panel. If aspirator motor stops running, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If aspirator does not stop running, repair short to ground on Yellow/Dark Green wire between aspirator motor and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Unplug Black connector from BCM, located above right kick panel. Unplug aspirator motor. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe cavity. 1 (Pink wire) at in-car temperature sensor connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Pink wire to junction block.
  7. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe cavity No. 2 (Yellow/Dark Green wire) at in-car temperature sensor connector. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step 10).
  8. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of Yellow/Dark Green wire between Black BCM connector and in-car temperature sensor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Yellow/Dark Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  9. Reconnect wiring to aspirator motor. Connect jumper wire between Yellow/Dark Green wire at BCM Black connector and ground. Inspect aspirator motor fan. If motor runs, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. Replace motor if it does not run. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  10. Using DRB, read BCM information. If display is BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993, repair short to voltage on Yellow/Dark Green wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If display is anything else, repair short to voltage on Yellow/Dark Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 24A - INOPERATIVE A/C COMPRESSOR

Note. Perform TEST 17A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. Select CLIMATE CONTROL MENU. Select SYSTEM TESTS. Select A/C ON TO BCM. Observe A/C switch status while pressing A/C switch. If DRB displays A/C SWITCH: CL with switch pressed, and A/C SWITCH: OP with switch released, go to next step. If display is not as specified, replace ATC head. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. NOTE: Look for ON or OFF messages during the following steps. Ignore NR messages.
  2. Press A/C switch to turn system on. If display is BCM: ON, go to next step. If display is not BCM: ON, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. If display is SBEC: ON, go to next step. If display is not SBEC: ON, replace PCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. If display is A/C RE: ON, go to next step. If display is not A/C RE: ON, go to step 6).
  5. Read PCM codes. If no engine codes exist, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If display is A/C CLUTCH RELAY CIRCUIT or any other engine code, see «A/C-HEATER SYSTEM - MANUAL»(ref-10858) article in the AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT section. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Read PCM codes. If no engine codes exist, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If display is A/C PRESSURE SENSOR VOLTS TOO LOW, A/C PRESSURE SENSOR VOLTS TOO HIGH, or any other engine trouble code, see «A/C-HEATER SYSTEM - MANUAL»(ref-10858) article in the AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT section. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25A - ATC HEAD COMMUNICATION FAILURE

Note. Perform TEST 18A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug ATC head connector. Turn ignition on. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Violet/Brown wire in harness connector. If voltage is higher than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open Violet/Brown wire between ATC head harness connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe White/Black wire in harness connector. If voltage is higher than one volt, replace ATC head. If voltage is not as specified, repair open White/Black wire between ATC head harness connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25B - IN-CAR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Note. Perform TEST 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Unplug in-car temperature sensor, located above glove box. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Red/Tan wire at sensor harness connector. If meter does not indicate higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If meter indicates higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Red/Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. If meter does not indicate higher than 4 volts, go to next step. If meter indicates higher than 4 volts, go to step 5).
  3. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Red/Tan wire in BCM Black connector. BCM is located above right kick panel. If meter does not indicate higher than 4 volts, go to next step. If meter indicates higher than 4 volts, repair Red/Tan wire between in-car sensor and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Unplug BCM connectors. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Red/Tan wire in BCM Black connector. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Red/Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Turn off courtesy light switch. Close all doors. Wait one minute. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Gray/Tan wire at sensor harness connector. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 7).
  6. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, backprobe Gray/Tan wire in Beige BCM connector. BCM is located above right kick panel. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Gray/Tan wire between sensor and Beige BCM connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  7. Reconnect wiring to in-car sensor. Using DRB, erase body codes. Wait 15 seconds. If DRB does not display ATC IN-CAR SENSOR FAILURE, go to next step. If display is ATC IN-CAR SENSOR FAILURE, replace in-car sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  8. If no other codes are displayed, system is okay at this time. If any other codes are displayed, perform TEST 19A. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25C - ATC BLEND DOOR CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Pink/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector, located above right kick panel. If meter does not indicate higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If meter indicates higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Pink/Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. If meter does not indicate higher than 4 volts, go to next step. If meter indicates higher than 4 volts, go to step 6).
  3. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM connectors, located above right kick panel. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Black BCM connector cavity No. 6 (Pink/Dark Blue wire). If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Pink/Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between Gray/Tan wire at Beige BCM connector and Pink/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 2000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 2000 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Unplug blend door actuator, located to left on A/C-heater unit. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between Gray/Tan wire at Beige BCM connector and Pink/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 2000 ohms, replace mode door actuator. If resistance is not less than 2000 ohms, replace blend door actuator. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Pink/Dark Blue wire at HVAC connector, located near top center of A/C-heater unit. If voltage is higher than 4 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not higher than 4 volts, repair Pink/Dark Blue wire between HVAC connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  7. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe cavity No. 5 (Red/White wire) at Black BCM connector, located above right kick panel. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Red/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  8. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe cavity No. 5 (Red/White wire) at Black BCM connector, located above right kick panel. If voltage is not higher than 0.1 volt, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 0.1 volt, go to step 11).
  9. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Red/White wire at HVAC connector, located near top center of A/C-heater unit. If voltage is not higher than 0.1 volt, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 0.1 volt, repair open Red/White wire between HVAC connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  10. Turn ignition off. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. Unplug Black BCM connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Red/White wire at Black BCM harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Red/White wire. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, inspect blend door for free movement. If door is okay, replace blend door actuator. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  11. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, backprobe Gray/Tan wire at Beige BCM connector. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 100 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  12. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, backprobe Gray/Tan wire at HVAC connector. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 100 ohms, repair open Gray/Tan wire between HVAC connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  13. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Dark Blue/White wire at Black BCM connector. Continue to observe voltmeter. Turn recirculation switch off. Turn panel switch on. Turn recirculation switch on. If voltage did not increase to higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage increased to higher than 10 volts, go to step 16).
  14. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/White wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  15. Read BCM INFORMATION. If BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993 appears, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993 does not appear, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  16. Read BCM codes. If ATC BLEND DOOR OUTPUT SHORTED TO BATTERY (OR) GROUND does not appear, go to next step. If specified code appears, perform TEST 25H.
  17. Using external voltmeter, backprobe Dark Blue/Red wire at HVAC connector. If voltage does not remain higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage remains higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Dark Blue/Red wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  18. Continue to observe external voltmeter. Rotate temperature control knob through its range from cold to hot. If voltage does not go higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage goes higher than 10 volts, go to step 21).
  19. Using external voltmeter, backprobe Dark Blue/Red wire at Black BCM connector. Rotate temperature control knob through its range from cold to hot. If voltage does not go higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage goes higher than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/Red wire between BCM and HVAC connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  20. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/Red wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Blue/Red wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  21. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Turn ignition on. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/White wire at Black BCM connector. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, go to step 23).
  22. Turn ignition off. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between Dark Blue/White wires at Black BCM connector and 10-pin HVAC connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, inspect blend door for free movement. If door is okay, replace blend door actuator. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Dark Blue/White wire between BCM and HVAC connectors. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  23. Read BCM INFORMATION. If display is BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993, repair short to voltage in Dark Blue/White wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If display is anything else, repair short to voltage on Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25D - ATC MODE DOOR CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Pink/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector, located above right kick panel. If meter does not indicate higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If meter indicates higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Pink/Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. If meter does not indicate higher than 4 volts, go to next step. If meter indicates higher than 4 volts, go to step 6).
  3. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM connectors, located above right kick panel. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Black BCM connector cavity No. 6 (Pink/Dark Blue wire). If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Pink/Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between Gray/Tan wire at Beige BCM connector and Pink/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 2000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 2000 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Unplug mode door actuator, located to left on A/C-heater unit. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between Gray/Tan wire at Beige BCM connector and Pink/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 2000 ohms, replace blend door actuator. If resistance is not less than 2000 ohms, replace mode door actuator. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Pink/Dark Blue wire at HVAC connector, located near top center of A/C-heater unit. If voltage is higher than 4 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not higher than 4 volts, repair Pink/Dark Blue wire between HVAC connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  7. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe cavity No. 4 (Red wire) at Gray BCM connector, located above right kick panel. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  8. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe cavity No. 5 (Red wire) at Gray BCM connector, located above right kick panel. If voltage is not higher than 0.1 volt, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 0.1 volt, go to step 11).
  9. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Red wire at HVAC connector, located near top center of A/C-heater unit. If voltage is not higher than 0.1 volt, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 0.1 volt, repair open Red wire between HVAC connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  10. Turn ignition off. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. Unplug Gray BCM connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Red wire at Gray BCM harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Red wire. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, inspect mode door for free movement. If door is okay, replace mode door actuator.
  11. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, backprobe Gray/Tan wire at Beige BCM connector. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 100 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  12. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, backprobe Gray/Tan wire at HVAC connector. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 100 ohms, repair open Gray/Tan wire between HVAC connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  13. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Dark Blue/White wire at Black BCM connector. Continue to observe voltmeter. Turn recirculation switch off. Turn panel switch on. Turn recirculation switch on. If voltage did not increase to higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage increased to higher than 10 volts, go to step 16).
  14. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/White wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  15. Read BCM INFORMATION. If display is BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If display is anything else, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  16. Read BCM codes. If ATC MODE DOOR OUTPUT SHORTED TO BATTERY (OR) GROUND does not appear, go to next step. If specified code appears, perform TEST 25J.
  17. Using external voltmeter, backprobe Dark Green/Yellow wire at HVAC connector. If voltage does not remain higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage remains higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Dark Green/Yellow wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  18. Continue to observe external voltmeter. Press panel, defrost, and bi-level switches, one at a time. If voltage does not go higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage goes higher than 10 volts, go to step 21).
  19. Using external voltmeter, backprobe Dark Green/Yellow wire at Black BCM connector. Press panel, defrost, and bi-level switches, one at a time. If voltage does not go higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage goes higher than 10 volts, repair open Dark Green/Yellow wire between BCM and HVAC connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  20. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Green/Yellow wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Green/Yellow wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  21. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Turn ignition on. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Dark Green/Yellow wire at Black BCM connector. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, go to step 23).
  22. Turn ignition off. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between Dark Green/Yellow wires at Black BCM connector and 10-pin HVAC connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, inspect mode door for free movement. If door is okay, replace mode door actuator. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Dark Green/Yellow wire between BCM and HVAC connectors. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  23. Read BCM INFORMATION. If BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993 appears, repair short to voltage in Dark Blue/White wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993 does not appear, repair short to voltage on Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25E - ATC RECIRCULATION DOOR CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Turn recirculation switch off. Turn panel switch on. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Dark Blue/White wire at Black BCM connector. Continue to observe voltmeter. Turn recirculation switch on. If voltage did not increase to higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage increased to higher than 10 volts, go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/White wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Read BCM INFORMATION. If display is BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire, and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If display is anything else, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. With DRB in voltmeter mode, backprobe Gray/Dark Blue wire at 10-pin HVAC connector, located near center of A/C-heater unit. Press recirculation switch while observing voltmeter. If voltage does not go higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage goes higher than 10 volts, go to step 7).
  5. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Gray/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Gray/Dark Blue wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Read BCM INFORMATION. If display is BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993, repair short to ground in Gray/Dark Blue wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If display is anything else, repair short to ground on Gray/Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  7. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Gray/Dark Blue wire at Black BCM connector. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, go to step 9).
  8. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of Gray/Dark Blue wire between Black BCM connector and 10-pin HVAC connector. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open Gray/Dark Blue wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, inspect recirculation door for free movement. If door is okay, replace recirculation door actuator.
  9. Read BCM INFORMATION. If display is BODY COMPUTER VERSION 1993, repair short to voltage in Gray/Dark Blue wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If display is anything else, repair short to voltage on Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25F - ATC EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 16A or 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. Read EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. If display is EVAP TEMP: -70, go to next step. If display is not as specified, go to step 6).
  2. Unplug evaporator temperature sensor, located on A/C-heater unit. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Light Green/Black wire at evaporator sensor harness connector. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Light Green/Black wire.
  3. Connect jumper wire between evaporator temperature sensor harness connector terminals. Read EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. If display is EVAP TEMP: -70, go to next step. If display is not as specified, replace sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between Light Green/Black wire and ground at harness connector. Read EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. If display is EVAP TEMP: -70, go to next step. If display is not as specified, repair open Gray/Tan wire between sensor and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between Light Green/Black wire and ground at Gray BCM harness connector, leaving connector attached. Read EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. If display is EVAP TEMP: -70, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If display is not as specified, repair open Light Green/Black wire between sensor and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  6. Unplug evaporator temperature sensor, located on A/C-heater unit. Read EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. If display is not EVAP TEMP: -70, go to next step. If display is not as specified, go to step 8).
  7. Turn ignition off. Unplug BCM. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Light Green/Black wire at Gray BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Light Green/Black wire between sensor and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  8. Connect wiring to evaporator temperature sensor. Erase BCM codes. Wait 2 minutes. Retrieve BCM codes. If specified code does not return, go to next step. If EVAPORATOR SENSOR FAILURE code returns, replace sensor.
  9. Start engine. Turn A/C on for 5 minutes. Retrieve BCM codes. If specified code does not return, sensor circuit is okay at this time. If EVAPORATOR SENSOR FAILURE code returns, replace sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25G - ATC SUNLOAD SENSOR CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 19A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Connect DRB. Read ATC SUN SENSOR. If display is less than SUNLOAD: 0.2 V, go to next step. If display is not as specified, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. Unplug sunload sensor, located at top center of dashboard, near windshield. Read ATC SUN SENSOR. If display is less than SUNLOAD: 0.2 V, go to next step. If display is not as specified, replace sunload sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Turn ignition off. Unplug Gray BCM connector, located above right kick panel. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/Red wire terminal at Gray BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Blue/Red wire. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25H - BLEND AIR DOOR DRIVER CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 19A or 25C before proceeding with this test.

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector, located near plenum. Unplug BCM, located above right kick panel. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/Red wire at Black BCM connector. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Dark Blue/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Blue/Red wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Blue/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 25J - MODE DOOR DRIVER CIRCUIT

Note. Perform TEST 19A or 25D before proceeding with this test.

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug 10-pin HVAC connector, located near plenum. Unplug BCM, located above right kick panel. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe Dark Green/Yellow wire at Black BCM connector. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, repair short to voltage on Dark Green/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  2. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe Dark Green/Yellow wire at Black BCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Green/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

TEST 54A - FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT

Note. Perform TEST 22A before proceeding with this test.

  1. Remove and inspect fuse No. 14. If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition off. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe load side of fuse No. 14 (Dark Blue/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 14. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  3. Unplug Beige BCM connector, located above right kick panel. Turn ignition off. With DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe cavity No. 22 (Dark Blue/White wire) of Beige BCM harness connector. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, replace BCM and perform VERIFICATION TEST. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Blue/White wire between BCM and fuse No. 14. Replace fuse No. 14. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  4. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe load side of fuse No. 14 (Dark Blue/White wire). If voltage is higher than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue wire between ignition switch and fuse block. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.
  5. Reinstall fuse No. 14. Turn ignition off. Unplug Beige BCM connector, located above right kick panel. Turn ignition on. With DRB in voltmeter mode, probe cavity No. 13 (Dark Blue/White) of Beige BCM harness connector. If voltage is higher than 10 volts, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST. If voltage is not higher than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire between BCM and fuse No. 14. Perform VERIFICATION TEST.

VERIFICATION TEST

Reconnect all previously disconnected components and wiring. If battery or BCM has been disconnected, or any work has been performed on ATC system, use DRB to calibrate ATC doors. Turn ignition off, then on. Use DRB to erase fault codes. Operate system that was malfunctioning to verify correct operation. If system still malfunctions, go to IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMS. Testing/repairs are complete if ATC system operates properly.

TESTING

WARNINGTo avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG article in ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section.

DRB TEST FUNCTIONS

Note. Do not touch DRB keypad during power-up sequence, or an error message will result.

Note. Because DRB is grounded through its connector, only one volt-ohmmeter test lead is required when using volt-ohmmeter option. DRB volt-ohmmeter should only be used when specified by diagnostic procedure.

  1. To perform diagnostic tests using DRB, it must be in LH CLIMATE CONTROL menu. At LH CLIMATE CONTROL menu, fault codes can be retrieved and DRB test functions can be performed.
  2. To obtain LH CLIMATE CONTROL menu, turn ignition off. Connect DRB to data link connector. Connector is located under instrument cluster, next to center console. (Схема №3) Turn ignition on.
  3. All DRB character positions will light, and copyright information will appear on screen for a few seconds. After a few seconds (no error messages present), the DRB menu will appear.
  4. At DRB menu, press "4" (SELECT SYSTEM) key to enter diagnostic test program. At SELECT SYSTEM menu, select "9" (LH CLIMATE CONT) key to enter climate (A/C-heater) control part of the DRB program. After a few seconds, the LH CLIMATE CONTROL menu will appear. The screen will display a menu of the DRB test categories for the A/C-heater system.
  5. At LH CLIMATE CONTROL menu of A/C-heater system diagnostic program, the following test functions can be performed: CLIMATE TESTS, CLIMATE FAULTS, CLIMATE STATE, CLIMATE ACTUATORS, and CLIMATE ADJUSTMENT.

Visual Inspection

A careful and thorough visual inspection of components may quickly identify cause of a malfunction and eliminate need for diagnostic testing.

Check wiring harnesses and A/C-heater system related components for damaged or unplugged connectors. Ensure all relays are properly installed in power distribution center and fuse/relay block. Power distribution center is located on left side of engine compartment. Fuse/relay block is located behind end cover at left side of instrument panel.

Test Equipment Required

To perform diagnostic tests, the following equipment is required

  1. DRB (Diagnostic Readout Box)
  2. 1993 Diagnostic Program Cartridge
  3. Body Diagnostic Cable
  4. High Impedance Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM)
  5. Jumper Wires

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. To properly diagnose and test A/C-heater system, always start diagnosis at IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMS test. Starting with any other test may result in incorrect diagnosis. Ensure battery is fully charged and charging system is functional.
  2. Do not backprobe connectors unless specified. Probe connector cavities carefully. Do not spread terminals. This could cause an intermittent problem. Do not cause short circuits when performing electrical tests. Doing so will set additional fault codes, making diagnosis of original problem more difficult.
  3. Use DRB voltmeter, unless instructed to use an external voltmeter. Do not use a test light in place of a voltmeter. Use DRB ohmmeter, unless instructed to use an external ohmmeter. Always perform VERIFICATION TEST after repairs are made. Always disconnect DRB after use.
