AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT INSIDE MIRROR
- Turn ignition switch to ON position with transmission in Neutral or Park. Place mirror switch in ON position (switch LED illuminated). Cover forward facing sensor with a dark cloth or tape to exclude any ambient light. (Scheme 6)
- Shine a light into rear-facing sensor. Observe whether or not mirror darkens. With mirror darkened, place transmission in Reverse. Mirror should return to normal. If conditions are met, mirror is operating correctly. If conditions are not met, remove covering from sensor and go to next step.
- Check fuse No. 11 (10-amp) in junction block. Repair any short circuits and replace fuse as necessary. Go to next step.
- Check for power at fuse. Repair open circuits as necessary. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3625-S07428650452000051100000). If power exists, go to next step.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect mirror harness connector. Check continuity between harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between mirror and ground.
- Reconnect battery cable. Turn ignition on. Check for voltage at harness connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in circuit between mirror and fuse No. 11.
- Set parking brake. Put transmission selector in Reverse. Check for voltage at harness connector terminal No. 3 (Violet/Black wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in circuit between mirror and Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch (automatic) or back-up light switch (manual). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3625-S07428650452000051100000).
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect mirror harness connector. Turn ignition on. Put transmission selector in Neutral. Completely cover forward facing light sensor. Shine a light in rear facing light sensor, located at top center of mirror. If mirror glass darkens, go to next step. If mirror glass does not darken, replace mirror.
- With light still on, put transmission selector in Reverse. Mirror should lighten. If mirror glass does not lighten, replace mirror.

Ram Pickup
- Check fuse No. 2 (10-amp) in junction block. Repair any short circuits and replace fuse as necessary. Go to next step.
- Check for power at fuse. Repair open circuits as necessary. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3625-S07428650452000051100000) . If power exists, go to next step.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Access and disconnect power mirror defogger switch harness connector. See «POWER MIRROR DEFOGGER SWITCH»(ref-3625-S24003047002000051100000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between power mirror defogger switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black/Orange wire between mirror switch and ground.
- Reconnect battery cable. Check for voltage at power mirror defogger switch harness connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in circuit between switch and fuse.
- Reconnect power mirror defogger switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Press heated mirror switch. If Amber light illuminates, go to next step. If Amber light does not illuminate, replace A/C and heater control unit. For removal and installation, see appropriate MANUAL or AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING.
- Using voltmeter connected to ground, backprobe defogger grid connector terminal No. 3 (Light Blue/Yellow wire). If voltage exists, check defogger grid. See «POWER MIRROR DEFOGGER»(ref-3625-S34318686582000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If voltage does not exist, replace A/C and heater control unit. For removal and installation, see appropriate MANUAL or AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING.
Dakota & Durango (System Inoperative)
Turn ignition on. While monitoring instrument cluster voltmeter, turn defogger on. Indicator light should illuminate. Voltmeter should deflect. If voltmeter deflects severely, check wiring for short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Wait 3-4 minutes. Check mirror temperature. There should be a distinct temperature difference. If system is not operating as specified, check defogger switch and defogger grid. See COMPONENT TESTS .
Dakota & Durango (One Power Mirror Defogger Inoperative)
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Access and disconnect inoperative mirror harness connector. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-3625-S34396087432000051100000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between power mirror harness connector terminal No. 5 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between mirror and ground.
- Reconnect battery cable. Turn ignition on. Turn defogger on. Check for battery voltage at power mirror harness connector terminal No. 6 (Tan/Black wire). If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair open circuit as necessary. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3625-S07428650452000051100000) .
- Check defogger grid. See «POWER MIRROR DEFOGGER»(ref-3625-S34318686582000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace as necessary.
POWER MIRROR SYSTEM
- Check fuse. See «MIRROR SYSTEM FUSE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-3625-S13563516682000051100000) table. Repair any short circuits and replace fuse as necessary. Go to next step.
- Check for power at fuse. See «MIRROR SYSTEM FUSE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-3625-S13563516682000051100000) table. Repair open circuits as necessary. If power exists, go to next step.
- Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Check for voltage at power mirror harness connector terminal. See «MIRROR SWITCH POWER SUPPLY IDENTIFICATION»(ref-3625-S22687766842000051100000) table. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in circuit between mirror switch and fuse.
- Disconnect battery cable. Check continuity between ground and power mirror switch harness connector terminal No. 8 (Black wire) Dakota & Durango, No. 8 (Black/Light Green wire) Ram Pickup, or No. 4 (Black wire) Ram Van and Ram Wagon. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire or Black/Light Green wire between mirror switch and ground.
- Check mirror switch. See «POWER MIRROR SWITCH»(ref-3625-S06110777012000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is faulty, replace switch.
- Check power mirror motor. See «POWER MIRROR MOTOR»(ref-3625-S40862223652000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If motor is faulty, replace mirror. If motor is okay, repair wiring between switch and motor as necessary.

MIRROR SWITCH POWER SUPPLY IDENTIFICATION
POWER MIRROR MOTOR
Disconnect harness connector from power mirror switch. Using 2 jumper wires, connect one jumper to a 12-volt source and the other to a good ground. Apply power and ground to power mirror switch harness connector. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR TEST table. (Scheme 7) If mirror does not operate as specified, check for open or shorted circuit, or replace mirror assembly as necessary.

POWER MIRROR SWITCH
Remove power mirror switch and disconnect harness connector. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between power mirror switch terminals with switch in appropriate position. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST table. (Scheme 8) If continuity is not as specified, replace switch.

POWER MIRROR SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST

Dakota & Durango
Turn ignition off. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Check resistance between power mirror connector terminals No. 5 (Black wire) and No. 6 (Tan/Black wire). (Scheme 7) Resistance should be 6.0-8.2 ohms. Replace mirror if resistance is not as specified.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Check resistance between power mirror connector terminals No. 4 (Light Blue/Yellow wire) and No. 5 (Black/Light Green wire). (Scheme 7) Resistance should be 10-16 ohms. Replace mirror if resistance is not as specified.
- Access and disconnect power mirror defogger switch harness connector. See «POWER MIRROR DEFOGGER SWITCH»(ref-3625-S24003047002000051100000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between power mirror defogger switch harness connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire.
- Check voltage at power mirror defogger switch harness connector terminal No. 9 (Black/Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Black/Pink wire to power distribution center.
- Turn ignition on. Check battery voltage at power mirror defogger switch harness connector terminal No. 7 (Red/Dark Green wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Red/Dark Green wire to junction block.
- Turn ignition off. Connect power mirror defogger switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Backprobe power mirror defogger harness connector terminal No. 10 (Black/White wire). Depress power mirror defogger switch. Indicator light should illuminate and battery voltage should exist. Depress power mirror defogger switch again. Indicator light should turn off and battery voltage should not exist. Replace power mirror defogger switch if operation is not as specified.
Note. Defogger switch is part of A/C and heater control unit. See POWER MIRROR DEFOGGER SYSTEM under SYSTEM TESTS.
