Starter Removal & Installation Dodge Diplomat I

1.6L 4-CYL.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery. Remove starter cable from starter. Disconnect solenoid lead wire from solenoid.
2. Remove bolt attaching rear of starter motor to engine block. Remove starter to flywheel housing attaching bolts. Remove starter from vehicle.

1.7L & 2.2L 4-CYL.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery. Remove heatshield clamp and heatshield.
2. On 2.2L engines, loosen air pump tube at exhaust manifold and swivel tube bracket away from starter.
3. Remove starter cable at starter. Disconnect solenoid lead wire from starter solenoid.
4. Remove bolts attaching rear bracket to engine or transaxle. Remove bolts attaching starter to flywheel housing. Remove starter from vehicle.

2.6l 4-CYL.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery. Remove starter cable at starter.
2. Disconnect solenoid lead wire at starter solenoid. Remove bolts attaching starter to flywheel housing. Remove starter.

3.7l 6-CYL. & 5.2l V8

1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery. Remove bolt and nut attaching heat shield to starter. Remove heat shield.
2. Remove cable at starter. Disconnect solenoid lead wires from solenoid terminals. Remove 1 stud nut and 1 bolt attaching starter to flywheel.
3. If equipped, slide automatic transmission oil cooler tube bracket off stud. Remove starter from vehicle. Do not damage flywheel housing seal.
