Engine Removal - 6-cyl Dodge Diplomat I

3.7L (225") (WITH TRANSMISSION REMOVAL)

1. Mark hinge outline on hood for reinstallation reference. Remove hood. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove radiator hoses and heater hoses from radiator. Remove radiator. Remove closed ventilation system and evaporation control system from head cover.
3. Disconnect all wiring, fuel lines, and carburetor linkage from engine. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Raise vehicle on hoist. Drain transmission. Remove shift linkage, clutch torque shaft and rods.
4. Remove speedometer cable. Remove gear shift rods. Remove drive shaft. Install engine support (C-3487A or equivalent) and leg (C-3806 or equivalent) to support rear of engine. Remove engine rear support crossmember.
5. Remove transmission bolts from clutch housing. Remove transmission. Lower vehicle. Attach engine lift to cylinder head and attach chain to fixture eye-bolt. Remove engine support. Remove front engine mount bolts. Remove engine.

3.7L (225") (WITHOUT TRANSMISSION REMOVAL)

1. Mark hood and hood hinges for reinstallation reference. Remove hood. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove radiator hoses and heater hoses from engine and radiator. Remove radiator.
2. If equipped, remove A/C compressor from engine. Leave refrigerant hoses connected to compressor and position aside. Remove all vacuum lines. Remove distributor cap and wires. Remove carburetor. Remove wires from starter. Remove oil pressure sending unit wire.
3. If equipped, remove power steering hoses. Remove starter motor. Remove alternator. Remove charcoal canister. Remove horns. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold.
4. Remove converter housing-to-engine bolts. Remove converter inspection plate. Mark converter and drive plate for reinstallation reference. Remove torque converter-to-drive plate bolts. Support transmission with a support stand.
5. Attach a "C" clamp to bottom front of converter housing to retain converter. Disconnect engine from drive plate. Attach engine hoist to engine. Remove front motor mount bolts. Remove engine.
