Removal & Installation
- Disconnect battery cables. Mark hinge position on hood for reinstallation. Remove hood. Drain cooling system. Remove radiator and heater hoses. On automatic transaxle models, remove oil cooler lines from radiator. On all models, remove radiator and shroud assembly.
- Remove air cleaner with hoses attached. Remove A/C compressor and power steering pump from mounting brackets and position aside (if equipped). Leave refrigerant lines and power steering hoses connected. Remove oil filter. Disconnect electrical wiring, vacuum lines and accelerator cable at engine.
- Remove gas cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. Remove wiring harness from any injector. Connect one injector terminal to battery negative terminal and other terminal to battery positive terminal. DO NOT leave injector connected for longer than 10 seconds. Remove jumper wires. Remove fuel line.
- Remove alternator mounting bolts and position alternator aside. On manual transaxle models, disconnect clutch cable. Remove transaxle housing inspection cover. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Disconnect starter motor and position aside. Support transaxle.
- On automatic transaxle models, remove converter housing inspection cover. Mark converter-to-flex plate position. Remove converter-to-flex plate bolts. Attach "C" clamp to bottom of transaxle housing to prevent converter movement. Support transaxle.
- Install engine lift. Remove right side inner fender splash shield. Remove ground strap. Remove right engine mount through bolt. Remove bolts attaching engine to transaxle.
- Mark front engine mount location for reinstallation. Remove front engine mount bolt and nut. Remove anti-roll strut/damper from manual transaxle. Remove insulator bracket-to-transaxle screws or insulator through bolt (from inside wheelwell). Lift engine and remove from vehicle.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Align engine mounts and install. DO NOT tighten mounting bolts until all mounting brackets and bolts have been installed. Check drive axle shaft length, with damper weight removed, and adjust as necessary. (Scheme 25)
- If drive axle shaft length requires adjustment, support engine/transaxle assembly with a floor jack. Loosen right engine mount verticle fasteners, front engine mount bracket and front crossmember fasteners. Pry engine right or left as required to obtain correct drive axle shaft length. See «DRIVE AXLE SHAFT LENGTH SPECIFICATIONS»(/dodge/daytona/i-1984-1993/remont/mechanical/#engine-removal) table.
- Tighten mounting bolts and nuts to specification. Recheck drive axle shaft length. Install damper weight and tighten to specification. Fill cooling system. Bleed air from cooling system by removing plug above thermostat housing. Reinstall plug when coolant level reaches plug opening. Tighten plug to specification.
