NS4 - CHECKING ENGINE TIMING Dodge Daytona I

2.2l Turbo Tests W/codes 1 illustration ~278 words

NS4 - CHECKING ENGINE TIMING

  1. Connect timing light. Have an assistant crank engine while you observe timing marks. If timing is 0-16 degrees BTDC, remove distributor cap and crank engine to ensure rotor is turning and is indexed correctly. Check engine compression and valve timing.
  2. If timing is not between 0-16 degrees BTDC, set timing to 10 degrees BTDC during cranking. If engine starts, reset timing to specification. If engine does not start, remove distributor cap and crank engine to ensure distributor rotor is turning and is indexed correctly. Check engine compression and valve timing.

Scheme 133

Scheme 133: NS5 - FUEL PUMP CHECK
  1. Connect DRB II to engine harness connector. Put system in Diagnostic Test Mode. Press and hold ATM key on DRB II. If fuel pump is running, check all fuel lines for kinks, restrictions and leaks. Check for a plugged fuel filter. If fuel lines and filter check okay, remove and inspect fuel pump. Check for fuel contamination.
  2. If fuel pump was not running, leave DRB II connected to engine harness connector and in Diagnostic Test Mode. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Disconnect in-tank fuel pump connector. Connect positive voltmeter lead to Dark Green/Black wire in fuel pump connector. Connect negative voltmeter lead to Gray wire in connector. (Scheme 133): Fuel Pump Check
  3. If voltmeter is reading within one volt of battery voltage, replace fuel pump. If voltmeter reading is zero volts, move negative voltmeter lead to a good ground. Press ATM key on DRB II. If voltage reading is within one volt of battery voltage, repair Gray wire for an open circuit. If voltage reading is still zero, repair Dark Green/Black wire for an open circuit.
