DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - POWER WINDOWS
For complete circuit diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring information.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - WINDOW SMART MOTOR
When a window motor is installed, it must be initialized to program the up and down stops. The initialization procedure is to manually drive the window motor to both the top and bottom of the window travel. Initialization is performed by holding the switch for two seconds after the window reaches the full up position.
Diagnosing a motor concern requires the technician to diagnose by the process of elimination. If a window motor is inoperative, verify that all switch signals to the motor are correct. Verify power and ground at the window motor. If the switch signals, power and ground are okay and there are no obstructions, attempt to initialize the motor prior to replacement.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - WINDOW MOTOR
- Remove door trim panel. Refer to «PANEL, DOOR TRIM, REMOVAL»(ref-646233-S09649891302014072800000) .
- Connect positive (+) lead from a test battery to either of the two motor terminals.
- Connect negative (-) lead from test battery to remaining motor terminal.
- The motor should now rotate in one direction to either move window up or down. If window happens to already be in full UP position and motor is connected so as to move it in UP direction no movement will be observed. Likewise, motor connected to move window in DOWN direction no movement will be observed if window is already in full DOWN position. Reverse battery leads in Step 2 and Step 3 and window should now move. If window does not move, replace motor.
- If window moved completely up or down, the test leads should be reversed one more time to complete a full window travel inspection.
- If window does not move, check to make sure that it is free.
- It is necessary that the window be free to slide up and down in the glass channels. If the window is not free to move up and down, the window lift motor will not be able to move the glass.
- To determine if the glass is free, disconnect the regulator from the glass lift plate. Remove the two attaching screws, and slide the window up and down by hand.

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the door interior trim panel (2). Refer to «PANEL, DOOR TRIM, REMOVAL»(ref-646233-S09649891302014072800000) or «PANEL, REAR DOOR TRIM, REMOVAL»(ref-646233-S22584482352014072800000) for the appropriate procedure.
- Disconnect the power window motor electrical connector (3).
- Remove the three fasteners (2) that secure the power window motor and gear assembly (1) to the carrier plate and remove the motor and gear assembly.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - POWER WINDOW SWITCHES
The master window switch has an Auto-Down feature. Actuation of the master switch to the second down position will move the drivers side window completely down. The electronic switch will automatically disconnect the motor approximately one second after the window bottoms out. Failure of the electronic switch to detect stall current, will cause the switch to disconnect after approximately 13 seconds. The auto down function can be canceled by any movement of that switch.
