  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL, 2.0L»(ref-646216-S37540781882014072800000) and «BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL, 2.4L»(ref-646217-S11826178562014072800000) .
  3. Remove the air cleaner resonator. Refer to «RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL, 2.0L»(ref-646216-S00754484562014072800000) and «RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL, 2.4L»(ref-646217-S01497312852014072800000) .
  4. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY»(ref-646220-S29113014682014072800000) .
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to «BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL»(ref-646235-S33730159442014072800000) .
  6. Remove nut (2) and the A/C discharge line/suction line manifold (1) from the A/C compressor.
  7. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
  8. Install tape or plugs into the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
  9. Disconnect the A/C compressor high pressure switch wire harness connector (1).
  10. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch wire harness connector (1) and detach the wire harness from the A/C compressor.
  11. Remove the bolts (1) and the A/C compressor (2).

  1. Remove the A/C compressor (3) and place it on a workbench. Refer to «COMPRESSOR, A/C, REMOVAL»(ref-646220-S17088941942014072800000) .
  2. Remove the compressor shaft bolt (1). A band-type oil filter wrench or a strap wrench may be used to hold the clutch plate (2) from rotating during bolt removal. CAUTION: Do not pry between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing assembly to remove the clutch plate from the compressor shaft as this may damage the clutch plate. NOTE: Use care not to misplace any clutch shim(s) during removal of the clutch plate, as they may be reused during the clutch plate installation process.
  3. Tap the clutch plate (2) lightly with a plastic mallet to release it from the splines on the compressor shaft (1) and remove the clutch plate and shim(s) (3).
  4. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring (1) that secures the pulley and bearing assembly (2) to the A/C compressor (3) and remove the pulley and bearing assembly.
  5. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring (1) that secures the A/C clutch coil (2) to the A/C compressor (3) and remove the coil.
CAUTIONIf the A/C compressor is being replaced, be certain to adjust the refrigerant system oil level. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

Note. Replacement of the refrigerant line seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected from the A/C compressor. Failure to replace the seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. If the A/C compressor (1) is being replaced, the refrigerant oil in the old compressor must be first drained and measured. Then the oil in the new A/C compressor must be drained. Finally, the new compressor must be refilled with the same amount of new refrigerant oil that was drained out of the old compressor. When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to «OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S06757673302014072800000) . Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  2. Install the A/C compressor (3) and bracket (1). Tighten the bolts (2) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
  3. Attach the A/C wire harness to the compressor and connect the A/C compressor clutch wire harness connector (1).
  4. Connect the A/C compressor high pressure switch wire harness connector (1).
  5. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
  6. Lubricate new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  7. Install the A/C discharge (2) and suction line (1) to the A/C compressor. Tighten bolts (3) to 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  8. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to «BELT, SERPENTINE, INSTALLATION»(ref-646235-S37622997972014072800000) .
  9. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to «PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S33335783492014072800000) .
  10. Install the engine cover.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
CAUTIONIf the A/C compressor is being replaced, be certain to adjust the refrigerant system oil level. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

  5. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
  6. Lubricate new O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-ring seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  7. Install the A/C discharge line/suction line manifold (1) to the A/C compressor (3). Tighten nut (1) to 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  8. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to «BELT, SERPENTINE, INSTALLATION»(ref-646235-S37622997972014072800000) .
  9. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to «PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S33335783492014072800000) .
  10. Install the air cleaner resonator. Refer to «RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2.0L»(ref-646216-S21595726612014072800000) and «RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2, 4L»(ref-646217-S37132917522014072800000) .
  11. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2.0L»(ref-646216-S26351878182014072800000) and «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2.4L»(ref-646217-S00793981562014072800000) .
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.
  1. Align the dowel pin on the back of the A/C clutch coil (2) with the hole in the front of the A/C compressor (3) and install the coil onto the compressor. CAUTION: The snap ring must be fully and properly seated in the groove or it may vibrate out, resulting in a clutch failure and severe damage to the A/C compressor.
  2. Using snap ring pliers, install the snap ring (1) that secures the A/C clutch coil (2) to the A/C compressor (3). Be certain that the snap ring is fully and properly seated in the groove. CAUTION: When installing the pulley and bearing assembly, DO NOT mar the friction surfaces of the pulley or premature failure of the A/C clutch may result.
  3. Install the pulley and bearing assembly (2) onto the A/C compressor (3). If necessary, gently tap the pulley onto the compressor using a block of wood placed on the pulley friction surface.
  4. Using snap ring pliers, install the snap ring (1) that secures the pulley and bearing assembly to the A/C compressor. Be certain that the snap ring is fully and properly seated in the groove.
  5. If the original clutch plate (2) and pulley and bearing assembly are to be reused, reinstall the original shim(s) (3) onto the compressor shaft (1). If a new clutch plate and pulley and bearing assembly are being used, install a trial stack of shims 2.54 mm (0.010 in.) thick onto the compressor shaft.
  6. Install the clutch plate (2) onto the A/C compressor (3).
  7. Install the compressor shaft bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 14 N.m (10 ft. lbs.). NOTE: The shims may compress after tightening the shaft bolt. Check the air gap in four or more places to verify the air gap is correct. Spin the pulley before performing a final check of the air gap.
  8. With the clutch plate assembled tight against the shim(s), measure the air gap between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing assembly. The air gap should be between 0.20 - 0.45 mm (0.007 - 0.018 in.). If the air gap is not between specifications, add or subtract shims as needed until the correct air gap is obtained.
  9. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to «COMPRESSOR, A/C, INSTALLATION»(ref-646220-S26826649852014072800000) .

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine cover.
  3. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL»(ref-646215-S35238296702014072800000) .
  4. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY»(ref-646220-S29113014682014072800000) .
  5. Remove bolt (3) and the A/C discharge (1) and liquid line manifold (2) from the A/C condenser.
  6. Detach the discharge line (2) from manifold (3). Remove and discard the seal (1).
  7. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the condenser and liquid line ports.
  8. Remove the splash shield from the right side frame rail. Refer to «SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL»(ref-646233-S05943217422014072800000) .
  9. Remove bolt (1) securing the discharge line (2) bracket to engine.
  10. Remove the bolt (3) and the A/C discharge line (2) from the A/C compressor. Discard the seal.
  11. Install tape or plug over the compressor port.

  5. Remove nut (3) and the A/C suction/liquid line manifold (2) from the A/C condenser.
  6. Detach the suction line (2) from manifold (3). Remove and discard the seals (1).
  7. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the condenser and suction line ports.
  8. Remove the splash shield from the right side frame rail. Refer to «SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL»(ref-646233-S05943217422014072800000) .
  9. Remove nut (3) and disconnect the lower suction line (4). Remove and discard the seal (1).
  10. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the condenser and suction line ports.
  11. Remove the nut (2) and the A/C suction and discharge line (2) from the A/C compressor. Discard the O-ring seal and gasket.
  12. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened discharge line fitting and the compressor port.

  3. Install the A/C discharge line (1) to the A/C compressor. Tighten bolt (3) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
  4. Install the discharge line and bracket (4) to engine. Tighten bolt (3) 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.).
  5. Install the splash shield onto the right side frame rail. Refer to «SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION»(ref-646233-S24910490662014072800000) .
  6. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings and the condenser ports.
  7. Lubricate a new seal (1) with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new seals onto the discharge line fitting. Use only the specified seals as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  8. Attach the discharge line (2) to the liquid line manifold (3).
  9. Install the A/C discharge/liquid line manifold (2) to the A/C condenser. Tighten nut (3) 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. CAUTION: Do NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system. Failure to follow this caution will result in serious A/C compressor damage.
  11. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM EVACUATE»(ref-646220-S30933879772014072800000) .
  12. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to «OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S06757673302014072800000) .
  13. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM CHARGE»(ref-646220-S15926687882014072800000) .
  14. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION»(ref-646215-S04758408592014072800000) .
  15. Install the engine cover.

  4. Install the A/C suction and discharge line (1) to the A/C compressor. Tighten nut (2) to 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  5. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings.
  6. Lubricate a new rubber seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new seal onto the suction line fitting. Use only the specified seals as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  7. Connect the lower suction line (4). Tighten nut (3) 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  8. Install the splash shield onto the right side frame rail. Refer to «SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION»(ref-646233-S24910490662014072800000) .
  9. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings and the condenser ports.
  10. Lubricate a new seal (1) with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new seals onto the discharge line fitting. Use only the specified seals as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  11. Attach the discharge line (2) to the liquid line manifold (3).
  12. Install the A/C discharge/liquid line manifold (2) to the A/C condenser. Tighten nut (3) 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  13. Reconnect the negative battery cable. CAUTION: Do NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system. Failure to follow this caution will result in serious A/C compressor damage.

  6. Detach the suction line (2) from liquid line manifold (3). Remove and discard the seal.
  7. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the condenser ports.
  8. Detach the wire harness retainer (5) from liquid line and disconnect the pressure transducer wire harness connector (4).
  9. If necessary, remove the pressure transducer (3).
  10. Remove nut (1) securing the front liquid line bracket (2) to frame rail.
  11. Remove nut (1) securing rear liquid line (2) bracket to frame rail.
  12. Remove nut (1) securing the liquid and suction line bracket (2).
  13. Remove nut (1) and detach the A/C liquid (3) and suction line manifold (2) from the A/C evaporator. Remove and discard the seals.
  14. Remove the A/C liquid and suction line assembly (3) from the engine compartment.
  15. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the evaporator ports.

  9. Remove nut (3) and disconnect the lower suction line (4) from upper suction line (2).
  10. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings.
  11. Remove nut (1) securing the liquid and upper suction line bracket.
  12. Disconnect the pressure transducer wire harness connector (1).
  13. If necessary, remove the pressure transducer (2).
  14. Remove nut (1) securing the liquid and suction line bracket (2).
  15. Remove nut (4) and detach the A/C liquid (1) and suction line manifold (5) from the A/C evaporator. Remove and discard the seals.
  16. Remove the A/C liquid (1) and suction line (5) assembly from the engine compartment.
  17. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the evaporator ports.

  1. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings and the evaporator ports.
  2. Lubricate the new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install the seals onto the liquid and suction line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of special materials compatible to the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  3. Position the A/C liquid line assembly into the engine compartment.
  4. Install the A/C liquid (3) to the suction line manifold assembly (2) to the A/C evaporator. Tighten nut (4) to 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  5. Install the nut securing the liquid and suction line bracket (2) and tighten nut to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
  6. Install the nut securing the rear liquid line (2) bracket to frame rail. Tighten nut (1) to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
  7. If removed, inspect the transducer O-ring seal (1).
  8. Install the front liquid line bracket (2) to frame rail. Tighten nut (1) to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
  9. If necessary, install the pressure transducer (3) and securely tighten.
  10. Connect the pressure transducer wire harness connector (4) and attach the wire harness retainer (5) to the liquid line.
  11. Remove the tape or plugs from the suction and liquid line fitting and the condenser port.
  12. Lubricate the new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install the seals onto the suction line fitting. Use only the specified seals as they are made of special materials compatible to the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  13. Attach the suction line (2) to the liquid manifold (3).
  14. Install the A/C suction (1) and liquid line manifold (2) to the A/C condenser. Tighten nut to 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  15. Connect the negative battery cable. CAUTION: Do NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system. Failure to follow this caution will result in serious A/C compressor damage.
  16. Evacuate the refrigerant system Refer to «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM EVACUATE»(ref-646220-S30933879772014072800000) .
  17. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to «OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S06757673302014072800000) .
  18. Charge the A/C system. Refer to «PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S33335783492014072800000) .
  19. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION»(ref-646215-S04758408592014072800000) .
  20. Install the engine cover.
CAUTIONBe certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.
CAUTIONThe A/C liquid line must be replaced if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C liquid line can prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

Note. When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

Note. The upper portion of the A/C suction line is only serviced as an assembly with the A/C liquid line.

Note. Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is opened. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets could result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings and the evaporator ports.
  2. Lubricate the new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install the seals onto the liquid (1) and suction line (5) fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of special materials compatible to the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  3. Position the A/C liquid (1) and suction line (5) assembly into the engine compartment.
  4. Attach the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to the A/C evaporator (6). Tighten nut (4) to 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  5. Install the nut securing the liquid and suction line bracket (2) and tighten nut to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
  6. If removed, inspect the O-ring seal and install the pressure transducer and securely tighten.
  7. Connect the pressure transducer wire harness connector.
  8. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings and the evaporator ports.
  9. Lubricate the new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install the seals onto the suction line fitting. Use only the specified seals as they are made of special materials compatible to the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  10. Install the liquid and suction line bracket. Tighten nut (1) to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
  11. Connect the lower suction line (4) to the upper suction line (2) assembly and install nut (3). Tighten nut to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
  12. Install the front liquid line (1) support bracket. Tighten nut to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
  13. Remove the tape or plugs from the suction and liquid line fitting and the condenser port.
  14. Lubricate the new seals (1) with clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the suction and liquid line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  15. Attach the suction line (2) to the liquid manifold (3).
  16. Install the A/C suction (1) and liquid line manifold (2) to the A/C condenser. Tighten nut to 20 N.m (177 in. lbs.).
  17. Reconnect the negative battery cable. CAUTION: Do NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system. Failure to follow this caution will result in serious A/C compressor damage.
  18. Evacuate the refrigerant system Refer to «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM EVACUATE»(ref-646220-S30933879772014072800000) .
  19. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to «OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S06757673302014072800000) .
  20. Charge the A/C system. Refer to «PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S33335783492014072800000) .
  21. Install the air cleaner resonator. Refer to «RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2.0L»(ref-646216-S21595726612014072800000) and «RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2.4L»(ref-646217-S37132917522014072800000) .
  22. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2.0L»(ref-646216-S26351878182014072800000) and «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION, 2.4L»(ref-646217-S00793981562014072800000) .
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine cover.
  3. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL»(ref-646215-S35238296702014072800000) .
  4. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to «PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-646220-S33335783492014072800000) .
  5. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Refer to «MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL»(ref-646224-S21304088122014072800000) .
  6. Remove bolt (3) and the suction line (1) from compressor. Discard the seal.
  7. Remove nut (1) and disconnect the A/C suction (3) and liquid line (2) manifold from expansion valve.
  8. Detach the liquid line (3) from suction line (2) manifold and remove the suction line manifold. Discard the seal.
