REMOVAL

The duty cycle EVAP canister purge solenoid (2) is located in the engine compartment. It is attached to a bracket near the brake power booster (3).

  1. Disconnect electrical wiring connector (1) at solenoid.
  2. Disconnect vacuum hoses (4) at solenoid.
  3. Remove solenoid from mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install solenoid assembly (2) to mounting bracket.
  2. Connect vacuum hoses (4).
  3. Connect electrical connector (1).
  4. The vapor/vacuum lines and hoses must be firmly connected. Check the vapor/vacuum lines at the NVLD pump, pump filter and EVAP canister purge solenoid for damage or leaks. If a leak is present, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) may be set.

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

If replacement of the 1/4 turn fuel tank filler tube cap is necessary, it must be replaced with an identical cap to be sure of correct system operation.

CAUTIONRemove the fuel tank filler tube cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. The cap must be removed prior to disconnecting any fuel system component or before draining the fuel tank.

The EVAP canister (2) is mounted to the top of the fuel tank (6). Both the EVAP canister (2) and NVLD pump (3) can be removed without removing the fuel tank.

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove left-rear tire.
  3. Remove plastic shield in front of left-rear tire. Access to both the EVAP canister (2) and NVLD pump (3) can be achieved from the area in front of the removed tire and plastic shield.
  4. Remove vapor hose from NVLD pump (3).
  5. Remove vapor line (5) from EVAP canister (3) by pressing on both tabs (2) simultaneously.
  6. Pry up plastic mounting clip (3) and remove canister (1) from top of fuel tank. Note: The opposite end of the canister is supported by two plastic pins slipped into rubber grommets.
  1. Guide the two plastic canister locating pins into the two rubber grommets.
  2. Install pin (3). Press down on pin (3).
  3. Install all vapor hoses and lines to both the EVAP canister and NVLD pump.
  4. The vapor/vacuum lines and hoses must be firmly connected. Also check the vapor/vacuum lines at the NVLD pump, NVLD filter and EVAP canister purge solenoid for damage or leaks. If a leak is present, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) may be set.
  5. Install plastic shield in front of left-rear tire.
  6. Install left-rear tire.

Access to both the EVAP canister (2) and NVLD pump (3) from the area in front of the removed tire.
  4. Disconnect electrical connector at NVLD pump.
  5. Remove vapor line at NVLD pump. Pry outward on tab (3) and rotate pump clockwise about 70 degrees for removal.
  6. Remove NVLD pump o-ring (2) from EVAP canister (1).
  1. Install new NVLD pump o-ring (2) to EVAP canister (1).
  2. Position NVLD pump (4) into EVAP canister (1).
  3. Rotate pump (4) until tab (3) aligns with notch in EVAP canister (1).
  4. Carefully install vapor/vacuum lines to NVLD pump. The vapor/vacuum lines and hoses must be firmly connected. Check the vapor/vacuum lines at the NVLD pump, filter and EVAP canister purge solenoid for damage or leaks. If a leak is present, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) may be set.
  5. Connect electrical connector to pump.
  6. Install plastic shield in front of left-rear tire.
  7. Install left-rear tire.
