DESCRIPTION
The Evaporative Emission Control System (EECS), prevents raw fuel vapors from entering the atmosphere. It consists of a charcoal vapor canister and a venting system which allows only vaporous fuel to be drawn into the system.
During engine operation, vapors are drawn through system vent lines and into intake manifold. When engine is off, fuel vapors are stored in the vapor canister. Vapors are drawn into intake manifold when engine started. (Scheme 28)and (Scheme 29).

OPERATION
When fuel evaporates in the fuel tank, vapors pass through vent hoses or tubes to the charcoal canister. Fuel vapors are held on the activated charcoal surface until they are drawn into the intake manifold. All fuel vapors are stored in one canister and are purged into intake manifold when engine is started. A vacuum port in throttle body base controls vapor flow to engine.

MAINTENANCE
No adjustments are required with this system. Replace air inlet filter (if equipped) in bottom of charcoal canister every 30,000 miles. Regular inspection should be made and defective components replaced as necessary.
