WARNINGDISCONNECT NEGATIVE CABLE FROM BATTERY BEFORE REMOVING BATTERY OUTPUT WIRE (B+ WIRE) FROM GENERATOR. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
  2. Raise and support vehicle.
  3. A heat shield (1) is used over the right engine mount (3). Remove two heat shield mounting bolts (2). The heat shield must be removed to gain access to generator support bracket nut (refer to following step).
  4. Loosen, but do not remove generator support bracket nut (4).
  5. Remove bolt (3).
  6. Unsnap plastic insulator cap from B+ output terminal.
  7. Remove B+ terminal mounting nut at rear of generator. Disconnect terminal from generator.
  8. Disconnect field wire connector at rear of generator by pushing on connector tab.
  9. Lower vehicle.
  10. Remove generator drive belt. Refer to «COOLING»(ref-255951) for procedure.
  11. Partially drain some engine coolant and remove upper radiator hose.
  12. Remove two generator mounting bolts (1).
  13. Remove generator (2) from vehicle.

WARNINGDISCONNECT NEGATIVE CABLE FROM BATTERY BEFORE REMOVING BATTERY OUTPUT WIRE (B+ WIRE) FROM GENERATOR. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
  2. Remove generator drive belt. Refer to «COOLING»(ref-255951) for procedure.
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4. Unsnap plastic insulator cap from B+ output terminal.
  5. Remove B+ terminal mounting nut at rear of generator. Disconnect terminal from generator.
  6. Disconnect field wire connector at rear of generator by pushing on connector tab.
  7. Remove generator support bracket nut (4) and bolt (3). Remove support bracket (1).
  8. Remove 2 generator mounting bolts (1).
  9. Remove generator (2) from vehicle.

2.7L

  1. Install generator.
  2. Install upper bolt mounting bolt.
  3. Install 2 lower mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten bolts to 65 N.m (48 ft. lbs.).
  5. Install B+ terminal nut and wire. Tighten nut to 13 N.m (115 in. lbs.).
  6. Connect generator field circuit plug.
  7. Install generator drive belt. Refer to «COOLING»(ref-255951) .
  8. Connect negative battery cable.

  1. Install the 2 upper bolts into generator. Install generator to vehicle.
  2. Hand start the 2 upper bolts.
  3. Start the 2 lower bolts.
  4. Torque bolts to 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.).
  5. Connect the electrical connectors.
  6. Install the engine mount bracket to engine.
  7. Torque bolts to 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.).
  8. Install fuel line bracket and tighten bolt.
  9. Loose install engine mount.
  10. Hand start engine mount upper bolts.
  11. Lower engine.
  12. Install lower engine mount bolts. Torque bolts to 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.).
  13. Install engine mount heat shield and tighten bolt.
  14. Connect heater tube and start tube nut.
  15. Tighten tube nut.
  16. Release rear heater tube clamp.
  17. Release front heater tube clamp.
  18. Swing sway bar up and into place.
  19. Install mounting brackets and tighten bolts to 60 N.m (44 ft. lbs.).
  20. Install sway bar mounting bracket heat shields.
  21. Install drive belt.
  22. Install rear belly pan.
  23. Install middle belly pan.
  24. Install front belly pan.
  25. Install belly pan side shield.
  26. Lower vehicle.
  27. Connect negative battery cable.
  28. Check coolant level and refill if necessary.

  1. Install generator.
  2. Install lower mounting bolts (3). Loosen install the upper mounting bolt (4).
  3. Tighten lower mounting bolts to 65 N.m (48 ft. lbs.).
  4. Connect generator field circuit plug.
  5. Install B+ terminal nut and wire. Tighten nut to 13 N.m (115 in. lbs.).
  6. Install middle splash pan.
  7. Lower vehicle.
  8. Remove loose installed upper bolt (4).
  9. Install bracket (2) and bracket bolt (1).
  10. Install upper mounting bolt (4) and bracket (2).
  11. Tighten upper mounting bolt to 65 N.m (48 ft. lbs.).
  12. Tighten Bracket bolt to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
  13. Install generator drive belt. Refer to «COOLING»(ref-255951) .
  14. Connect negative battery cable.

Rear Wheel Drive (RWD)

  1. Position generator (2) to engine and install 2 mounting bolts (1). Do not tighten bolts (1) at this time.
  2. Raise and support vehicle.
  3. Position support bracket (1) to generator and install bolt (3). Tighten all bolts / nut. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-255999-S17615721962007060500000) .
  4. Install heat shield (1) and two heat shield mounting bolts (2).
  5. Snap field wire connector into rear of generator.
  6. Install B+ terminal eyelet to generator output stud. Tighten mounting nut. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-255999-S17615721962007060500000) .
  7. Lower vehicle. CAUTION: Never force a belt over a pulley rim using a screwdriver. The synthetic fiber of the belt can be damaged. CAUTION: When installing a serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt MUST be routed correctly. The water pump may be rotating in the wrong direction if the belt is installed incorrectly, causing the engine to overheat. Refer to belt routing label in engine compartment, or refer to Belt Schematics in «COOLING»(ref-255951) .
  8. Install generator drive belt. Refer to «COOLING»(ref-255951) for procedure.
  9. Install upper radiator hose and fill cooling system with coolant.
  10. Install negative battery cable to battery.
  1. Position generator (2) to engine and install 2 mounting bolts (1).
  2. Tighten bolts. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-255999-S17615721962007060500000) .
  3. Position support bracket (1) to generator and install bolt (3) and nut (4). Tighten bolt / nut. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-255999-S17615721962007060500000) .
  4. Snap field wire connector into rear of generator.
  5. Install B+ terminal eyelet to generator output stud. Tighten mounting nut. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-255999-S17615721962007060500000) .
  6. Lower vehicle. CAUTION: Never force a belt over a pulley rim using a screwdriver. The synthetic fiber of the belt can be damaged. CAUTION: When installing a serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt MUST be routed correctly. The water pump may be rotating in the wrong direction if the belt is installed incorrectly, causing the engine to overheat. Refer to belt routing label in engine compartment, or refer to Belt Schematics in «COOLING»(ref-255951) .
  7. Install generator drive belt. Refer to «COOLING»(ref-255951) for procedure.
  8. Install negative battery cable to battery.
