DESCRIPTION
Pulse air feeder system supplies secondary air into exhaust system between front and rear catalytic converters. This promotes oxidation of exhaust emissions in rear catalytic converter.
This system consists of main reed valve and sub reed valve. Main reed valve is controlled by diaphragm which is activated by pressure pulses from within crankcase. Sub-reed valve is activated by pulsation in exhaust system between front and rear converters.
PULSE AIR FEEDER
Main-reed valve responds to pressure fluctuations generated within No. 3 cylinder crankcase, since crankcase is sealed by seal cover. This cover has a small hole for discharging oil and any blow-by gases.
Sub-reed valve is actuated by exhaust vacuum generated from pulsation in exhaust system between front and rear catalytic converters.
- With engine running, remove hose from air cleaner. Check for vacuum at hose opening by covering with hand.
- If no vacuum is generated, check hoses for air leaks and evidence of oil leaks.
