SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION

Note. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article before proceeding with following test. Body control computer in RWD trucks is the Central Timer Module (CTM).

IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMS

Note. For connector terminal identification wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article.

Note. Perform a visual inspection before proceeding with this test. Ensure battery is fully charged.

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is a 16-pin connector located under left side of dash, to left of steering wheel. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If scan tool display is not blank, go to next step. If scan tool display is blank, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Using scan tool, select SYSTEM MONITORS, then CCD BUS TEST. Scan tool will perform a CCD bus test. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool displays any message except BUS OPERATIONAL, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  3. Using scan tool, select READ DTCs. If any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (fault messages) are present, go to appropriate fault message. If no fault messages are present, identify customer complaint. See following list for possible fault messages and customer complaint symptoms. Problems listed are diagnosed using a scan tool. These problems may occur separately or in various combinations. When diagnosing a system with many apparent problems, a sequence of tests may be required. After repairs, ensure problem(s) or failure(s) have been corrected.

CHIME INOPERATIVE WITH EXTREME COOLANT TEMPERATURE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, actuate chime. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, replace Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel.
  2. Using scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs. If no engine coolant temperature related codes exist, go to next step. If engine coolant temperature related codes exist, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Due to difficult access of coolant temperature sensor, Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) will be used to verify CCD bus message from PCM. Disconnect OPS connector. OPS is located near bottom of distributor. Connect a jumper wire between OPS connector terminals. Start engine and allow to idle for 20 seconds. Increase engine speed to 1600 RPM. If chime sounds, system is currently functioning properly. If chime does not sound, go to next step.
  4. Remove instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Disconnect Instrument cluster 10-pin Gray connector "B". Connect a jumper wire between ground and Dark Blue/Red wire of instrument cluster 10-pin Gray connector terminal No. 7. Turn ignition on. If chime sounds, replace instrument cluster. If chime does not sound, repair open Dark Blue/Red wire.

CHIME INOPERATIVE - KEY IN IGNITION & LF DOOR OPEN

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.

Scheme 1

Scheme 1
  1. Turn ignition off. Open driver's door. If chime does not sound, go to next step. If chime sounds, system is currently functioning correctly.
  2. Using scan tool, read driver's door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays LFDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LFDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to «OPEN LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__open-left-door-ajar-circuit).
  3. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition chime state. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, go to next step. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, replace Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel.
  4. Disconnect key-in ignition switch connector. (Scheme 1) Connect jumper wire between key-in ignition switch connector Light Blue wire and ground. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition chime state. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, go to next step. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  5. Access CTM 14-pin Green connector C1. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a backprobe jumper wire between terminal No. 9 (Light Blue wire) and chassis ground. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, replace CTM. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, repair open Light Blue wire between CTM and ignition switch.

CHIME INOPERATIVE AT ALL TIMES

Note. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, BODY COMPUTER then ACTUATORS. Actuate chime. If chime sounds, system is currently functioning correctly. If chime does not sound, replace Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel.

CHIME INOPERATIVE WITH EXTERIOR LIGHTS ON

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Remove ignition key. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition chime state. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: OFF, go to step 4. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: OFF, go to next step.
  2. Open driver's door. Using scan tool, read door ajar status. If scan tool displays LFDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LFDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to «OPEN LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__open-left-door-ajar-circuit).
  3. Turn on headlights. If chime does not sound, repair open headlight sense circuit (Light Blue wire) between CTM and headlight switch. See appropriate wiring diagram in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. If chime sounds, system is currently functioning correctly.
  4. Open driver's door. Using scan tool, read door ajar status. If scan tool displays LFDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LFDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to «OPEN LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__open-left-door-ajar-circuit).
  5. Disconnect key-in ignition switch connector. (Scheme 1) Using scan tool, read key-in ignition chime state. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Remove ignition key. Ensure all lights and accessories are off. Close all doors. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Light Blue wire) on CTM Green connector "A". If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair Light Blue wire between CTM and ignition switch for short to ground. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace CTM.

CHIME INOPERATIVE WITH LOW OIL PRESSURE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect Oil Pressure Switch (OPS). OPS is located near bottom of distributor. Connect a jumper wire between OPS connector terminals. Start engine and allow to idle for 20 seconds. Increase engine speed to 1600 RPM. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, go to step 3 .
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate chime. If chime does not sound, replace Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. If chime sounds, system is currently functioning properly.
  3. Using scan tool, access CLUSTER MONITOR. With engine running, read CCD oil pressure. If scan tool reading does not match instrument cluster reading, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool reading matches instrument cluster reading, go to next step.
  4. Remove jumper wire. Connect a jumper wire between ground and OPS connector Gray wire. Start engine and allow to idle for 20 seconds. Increase engine speed to 1600 RPM. If chime sounds, repair open ground circuit between OPS connector and ground. If chime does not sound, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate chime. If chime does not sound, replace Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. If chime sounds, go to next step.
  6. Remove instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Disconnect CTM 14-pin Green connector C1. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance of Dark Blue/Red wire between CTM 14-pin Green connector C1 terminal No. 2 and instrument cluster 10-pin connector C2 terminal No. 7. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace CTM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Dark Blue/Red wire.

CHIME SOUNDS WITH DRIVER DOOR OPEN

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Ensure all interior and exterior lights are off. Remove ignition key and open driver's door. If chime does not sound, system is currently functioning correctly. If chime sounds, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition chime state. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: "ON/OFF", go to next step. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: "ON/OFF", replace Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel.
  3. Disconnect key-in ignition switch connector. (Scheme 1) Using scan tool, read key-in ignition chime state. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION CHIME STATE: ON, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Remove ignition key. Ensure all lights and accessories are off. Close all doors. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Light Blue wire) on CTM Green connector "A". If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair Light Blue wire between CTM and ignition switch for short to ground. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace CTM.

OPEN LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Remove driver's door panel. Disconnect driver's door ajar switch and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Connect a jumper wire between left front door ajar switch connector Tan wire and Black/Light Green wire. Using scan tool, read left front door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace left front door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect jumper wire from Black/Light Green wire. Take jumper wire end removed from Black/Light Green wire and connect to ground. If scan tool displays DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, repair open ground circuit (Black/Light Green wire). If scan tool does not display DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Access CTM 14-pin Green connector C1. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a backprobe jumper wire between chassis ground and terminal No. 1 (Tan wire). Using scan tool, read left front door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, repair open in Tan wire between left front door ajar switch and CTM. If scan tool does not display DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace CTM.

OPEN RIGHT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Remove passenger's door panel. Disconnect right front door ajar switch and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Connect a jumper wire between right front door ajar switch connector Black/Light Blue wire and Black/Light Green wire. Using scan tool, read right front door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASSDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace right front door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASSDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect jumper from Black/Light Green wire. Take jumper wire end removed from Black/Light Green wire and connect to ground. If scan tool displays PASSDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, repair open ground circuit (Black/Light Green wire). If scan tool does not display PASSDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Access CTM 14-pin Green connector C1. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a backprobe jumper wire between chassis ground and terminal No. 5 (Black/Light Blue wire). If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, repair open Black/Light Blue wire between CTM and right front door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace CTM.

SHORTED LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Remove driver's door panel. Disconnect driver's door ajar switch. Using scan tool, read left front door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DRDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace left front door ajar switch.
  2. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) 14-pin Green connector C1. CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and CTM 14-pin Green connector C1 terminal No. 1 (Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan wire between CTM 14-pin connector C1 and left front door ajar switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace CTM.

SHORTED RIGHT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Ensure all doors are closed. Open right front door and remove door panel. Disconnect right front door ajar switch. Using scan tool, read right front door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASSDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PASSDOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace right front door ajar switch.
  2. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) 14-pin Green connector C1. CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and CTM 14-pin Green connector C1 terminal No. 5 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Light Blue wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace CTM.

ALL GAUGES DO NOT OPERATE

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS OPERATIONAL, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article and follow appropriate symptom diagnostics.
  2. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select SYSTEM TEST. If scan tool displays PCM INACTIVE ON BUS, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display PCM INACTIVE ON BUS, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Turn ignition on. Using external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 6 (Yellow wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Yellow wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace instrument cluster.

ANY CCD CLUSTER LIGHT INOPERATIVE

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS OPERATIONAL, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article and follow appropriate symptom diagnostics.
  2. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select SYSTEM TEST. If scan tool displays PCM INACTIVE ON BUS, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display PCM INACTIVE ON BUS, go to next step.
  4. Push and hold RESET button while cycling ignition key. Release RESET button when CHEC appears in odometer display. Observe inoperative light during self-test. If inoperative light did not illuminate during self-test, go to next step. If inoperative light illuminated during self-test, verify if light is controlled by an input to instrument cluster. See appropriate wiring diagram in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. If light is controlled by an input to instrument cluster, go to appropriate circuits article or symptom test. See «IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMS»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__identifying-vehicle-equipment-system-problems) . If light is not controlled by an input to instrument cluster, system is currently functioning correctly.
  5. Gain access to instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If defective light is a LED, replace instrument cluster. If defective light is a bulb, go to next step.
  6. Remove and inspect defective bulb. If bulb is burned out, replace bulb. If bulb is not burned out, replace instrument cluster.

ANY HARD WIRED CLUSTER WARNING LIGHT INOPERATIVE

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Remove instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Remove inoperative bulb. If bulb is burned out, replace bulb. If bulb is not burned out, go to next step.
  2. Inspect wiring diagram and evaluate which instrument cluster provides; power or ground for inoperative bulb. See appropriate wiring diagram in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Using external ohmmeter or voltmeter, check appropriate power or ground circuit. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. If power or ground is not available at appropriate circuit, repair open circuit.

ONE GAUGE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Push and hold RESET button while cycling ignition key; ON-OFF-ON. Instrument cluster self-test will start. If inoperative gauge reached proper calibration point, go to next step. If inoperative gauge did not reach proper calibration point, replace instrument cluster.
  2. Stop instrument cluster self-test. If problem is with speedometer, go to next step. If problem is with oil pressure gauge, go to step 5 . If problem is with temperature gauge, go to step 14 . If problem is with fuel level gauge, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE and review powertrain symptoms. If problem is with volt gauge, go to step 16 . If problem is with tachometer, go to step 18 .
  3. Using scan tool, select BODY, SYSTEMS TESTS then PCM MONITOR. If scan tool displays PCM ACTIVE ON BUS, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PCM ACTIVE ON BUS, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  4. Raise and support all wheels. Start engine and place gear selector in drive. Using scan tool, select MIC, MONITORS then CCD BUS ENGINE INFO. Read VSS. If vehicle speed on scan tool matches speedometer, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKE article. If vehicle speed on scan tool does not match speedometer, replace instrument cluster circuit board.
  5. Turn ignition on. If CHECK GAUGES light illuminated, go to next step. If CHECK GAUGES light did not illuminate, go to step 11 .
  6. Turn ignition off. Inspect oil level. If oil level is within specification, go to next step. If oil level is not within specification, adjust oil level and retest.
  7. Turn ignition on. Disconnect engine Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) connector. OPS is located near bottom of distributor. If CHECK GAUGES light went out, go to next step. If CHECK GAUGES light did not go out, go to step 10 .
  8. Remove OPS. Connect mechanical oil pressure gauge to OPS port. Start engine. If engine oil pressure at idle is 4 psi or more, go to next step. If engine oil pressure at idle is less than 4 psi, repair mechanical engine problem.
  9. Run engine to reach normal operating temperature. If engine oil pressure at idle is 4 psi or more, replace OPS. If engine oil pressure at idle is less than 4 psi, repair mechanical engine problem.
  10. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM White connector C2. PCM is located in engine compartment on right inner fender. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and PCM Black connector terminal No. 23 (Gray/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray/Orange wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM.
  11. Disconnect engine Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) connector. OPS is located near bottom of distributor. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and OPS connector Black/Light Blue wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black/Light Blue wire. Black/Light Blue wire is a common sensor ground. If no other engine sensors are failed, repair ground between sensor and splice. If multiple engine sensors have failed, repair ground between splice and PCM.
  12. Connect jumper wire between OPS connector terminals. If oil pressure warning indicator illuminates, replace OPS. If oil pressure warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  13. Do not remove jumper wire. Disconnect PCM Black connector C2. PCM is located in engine compartment on right inner fender. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and PCM White connector C2 terminal No. 23 (Gray/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Gray/Orange wire.
  14. Check cooling system operation. If cooling system is operating properly, go to next step. If cooling system is not operating properly, repair engine cooling problem.
  15. Using scan tool, select PCM MONITOR under SYSTEM TESTS. If scan tool displays PCM ACTIVE ON BUS, system is currently functioning properly. If scan tool does not display PCM ACTIVE ON BUS, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  16. Using scan tool, select MODULE ENGINE CONTROLLER. Read PCM DTCs. If scan tool displays any charging system related DTCs, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE and repair DTC as necessary. If scan tool does not display any charging system related DTCs, go to next step.
  17. Check charging system operation. If charging system is operating properly, replace instrument cluster. If charging system is not operating properly, repair engine charging problem.
  18. Using scan tool, select BODY COMPUTER MONITORS. Read CCD BUS ENGINE INFO. If scan tool displays engine RPM, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool does not display engine RPM, replace PCM.

AVERAGE MPH/FUEL ECON INOPERATIVE OR WRONG (CMTC FAILS TO RESPOND TO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIMMING, DISTANCE TO EMPTY INOPERATIVE OR WRONG, ELAPSED TIME INOPERATIVE/WRONG, SWITCH ON CMTC INOPERATIVE, TRIP ODOMETER INOPERATIVE/WRONG)

Note. If any listed symptoms exist, Compass Mini-Trip computer (CMTC) is defective. Replace CMTC. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CMTC SHOWS FAILED

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

Using scan tool, perform AUTO SELF TEST. If CMTC shows failed, replace CMTC. If CMTC does not show failed, system is currently functioning properly.

CMTC SEGMENTS FAIL TO LIGHT UP

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

Using scan tool, perform AUTO SELF TEST. If CMTC segments fail to illuminate, replace CMTC. If CMTC segments all illuminate properly, system is currently functioning properly.

INCORRECT READING BEYOND +/- 5

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

If temperature reading is off by more than 5°F, ambient temperature sensor is defective. Replace ambient temperature sensor. Ambient temperature sensor is located on left radiator saddle.

REPAIRING "OC" IN CMTC DISPLAY

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Drive vehicle at least 3 miles (greater than 25 MPH) to update CMTC and perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Sensor is located on left radiator saddle. Connect jumper wire between sensor connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Observe CMTC display. If CMTC displays SC, replace ambient temperature sensor. If CMTC does not display SC, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect jumper wire. Disconnect CMTC module connector. Connect a jumper wire between ground and ambient temperature sensor harness connector Violet/Light Green wire. If CMTC displays SC, repair open Black/Violet wire between ambient temperature sensor harness connector and ground. If CMTC does not display SC, go to next step.
  3. Connect a backprobe jumper wire between ground and CMTC harness connector terminal No. 3 (Violet/Light Green wire). If CMTC displays SC, repair open Violet/Light Green wire between ambient temperature sensor harness connector and CMTC connector. If CMTC does not display SC, replace CMTC module.

REPAIRING "SC" IN CMTC DISPLAY

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CMTC connector. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between CMTC harness connector terminal No. 3 (Violet/Light Green wire) and terminal No. 7 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Violet/Light Green wire between CMTC module and ambient temperature sensor for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  2. Measure resistance between CMTC harness connector terminal No. 9 (Black/Light Blue wire) and terminal No. 3 (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair Violet/Light Green wire for short to Black/Light Blue wire. If resistance is 1000 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Sensor is located on left radiator saddle. Observe CMTC display. If CMTC displays OC, replace ambient temperature sensor. If CMTC does not display OC, replace CMTC module.

DOOR LOCK SWITCH FAILURE (PDL)

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Clear trouble codes as needed. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, read I/O's door lock switch status. If scan tool displays PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PRESSED, system is currently functioning properly.
  2. Disconnect left door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PRESSED, replace left door lock switch.
  3. Disconnect right door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PRESSED, replace right door lock switch.
  4. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 4 (Orange/Dark Green wire). If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Orange/Dark Green wire. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less, replace CTM.

DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH FAILURE (PDL)

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Clear trouble codes as needed. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, read I/O's door unlock switch status. If scan tool displays PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PRESSED, system is currently functioning properly.
  2. Disconnect left door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PRESSED, replace left door lock switch.
  3. Disconnect right door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PRESSED, replace right door lock switch.
  4. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 13 (Pink/Dark Green wire). If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Pink/Dark Green wire. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less, replace CTM.

AUTOMATIC (ROLLING) DOOR LOCKS INOPERATIVE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

  1. Using scan tool select SYSTEM MONITORS, then CCD BUS TEST. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS OPERATIONAL, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Using scan tool select BODY COMPUTER. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not displays NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  3. This test is only for vehicles equipped with speed sensitive door locks. With doors closed and unlocked drive vehicle faster than 15 MPH. If doors lock, system is currently functioning properly. If doors do not lock, using scan tool select ROLLING LOCKS. Retest system.

DOORS LOCK WITH KEY IN IGNITION & LEFT DOOR OPEN

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool select SYSTEM MONITORS, then CCD BUS TEST. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS OPERATIONAL, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Using scan tool select BODY COMPUTER. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  3. Place key in ignition. Open driver's door. Lock doors from interior lock switch. If doors locked, go to next step. If doors did not lock, system is currently functioning correctly.
  4. Using scan tool, read left door ajar status. Open and close left door. If door ajar state changed from OPEN to CLOSED, go to next step. If door ajar state did not change from OPEN to CLOSED, go to «OPEN LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__open-left-door-ajar-circuit) under DOOR AJAR SYSTEM.
  5. Ensure driver's door is open. Read key-in ignition status. If scan tool shows KEY-IN, replace Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. If scan tool does not show KEY-IN, go to next step.
  6. Gain access to CTM connector C1. Do not disconnect connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 14-pin connector C1 terminal No. 9 (Light Blue wire). If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, repair open Light Blue wire. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off and remove key. Measure voltage between ground and CTM 14-pin connector C1 terminal No. 9 (Light Blue wire). If voltage is less than 1.5 volts, replace CTM. If voltage is 1.5 volts or more, replace ignition switch.

ONE OR ALL DOORS FAILING TO LOCK FROM ONE SWITCH (ONE OR ALL DOORS FAILING TO UNLOCK FROM ONE SWITCH)

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool select SYSTEM MONITORS, then CCD BUS TEST. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS OPERATIONAL, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Using scan tool select BODY COMPUTER. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  3. Read DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If DOOR LOCK SWITCH FAILURE is displayed, go to «DOOR LOCK SWITCH FAILURE (PDL)»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__door-lock-switch-failure-pdl) . If DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH FAILURE is displayed, go to «DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH FAILURE (PDL)»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__door-unlock-switch-failure-pdl) .
  4. Lower both front windows. Remove key from ignition switch and close all doors. Lock and unlock doors from all switches. If all doors lock and unlock properly, system is currently functioning properly. If one or all locks fail to lock from one switch, go to next step. If one or all locks fail to unlock from one switch, go to step 12 .
  5. Using scan tool, read I/O's door lock switch status. Press lock button on inoperative door. If scan tool does not display LOCK SW PRESSED while lock switch is pressed on inoperative door, go to step 9 . If scan tool displays LOCK SW PRESSED while lock switch is pressed on inoperative door, go to next step.
  6. Access door lock actuator inside inoperative door. Disconnect door lock actuator connector. Remove key from ignition and roll windows down. Connect test light between door lock actuator connector terminals. If test light illuminates while door lock switch is pressed, replace door lock actuator. If test light does not illuminate while door lock switch is pressed, go to next step.
  7. Connect test light to ground and probe Orange/Black wire of door lock actuator connector. If test light illuminates while door lock switch is pressed, repair open Orange/Black wire between door lock actuator and Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. If test light does not illuminate while door lock switch is pressed, go to next step.
  8. Access CTM 18-pin connector C2. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 1 (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts while door lock switch is pressed, repair open Orange/Black wire. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less while door lock switch is pressed, replace CTM.
  9. Disconnect inoperative lock switch connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and Red wire of door lock switch connector. If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less, repair open Red wire between door lock switch connector and voltage source.
  10. Reconnect door lock switch connector. Measure voltage between ground and backprobe Orange/Violet wire of door lock switch connector. If voltage is more than 9.5 volts while pressing lock switch, go to next step. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less while pressing lock switch, replace door lock switch.
  11. Access CTM 18-pin connector C2. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 4 (Orange/Dark Green wire). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts while pressing lock switch, replace CTM. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less while pressing lock switch, repair open Orange/Dark Green wire between CTM and door lock switch.
  12. Using scan tool, read I/O's door unlock switch status. If scan tool does not display UNLOCK SW PRESSED while unlock switch is pressed on inoperative door, go to step 16 . If scan tool displays UNLOCK SW PRESSED while unlock switch is pressed on inoperative door, go to next step.
  13. Access door lock actuator inside inoperative door. Disconnect door lock actuator connector. Remove key from ignition and roll windows down. Connect test light between door lock actuator connector terminals. If test light illuminates while door unlock switch is pressed, replace door lock actuator. If test light does not illuminate while door unlock switch is pressed, go to next step.
  14. Connect test light to ground and probe Orange/Black wire of door lock actuator connector. If test light illuminates while door unlock switch is pressed, repair open Orange/Black wire between door lock actuator and Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. If test light does not illuminate while door unlock switch is pressed, go to next step.
  15. Access CTM 18-pin connector C2. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 9 (Pink/Black wire). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts while door unlock switch is pressed, repair open Pink/Black wire. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less while door unlock switch is pressed, replace CTM.
  16. Disconnect inoperative lock switch connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and Red wire of door lock switch connector. If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, repair open Red wire between door lock switch connector and voltage source. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less, go to next step.
  17. Reconnect door lock switch connector. Measure voltage between ground and backprobe Pink/Violet wire of door lock switch connector. If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less, replace door lock switch.
  18. Access CTM 18-pin connector "B". Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector "B" terminal No. 13 (Pink/Dark Green wire). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, replace CTM. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less, repair open Pink/Dark Green wire between CTM and door lock switch.

REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY PROBLEM

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool select SYSTEM MONITORS, then CCD BUS TEST. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS OPERATIONAL, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Using scan tool select BODY COMPUTER. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  3. Operate door locks with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. If doors locked when transmitter was actuated, system is currently functioning properly. If doors do not lock when transmitter was actuated, go to next step.
  4. Ensure transmitter battery voltage is 3.2 volts. Turn ignition on. Place transmission in park and disarm anti-theft system. Using scan tool, select MISCELLANEOUS, then PROGRAM RKE. If BCM IS IN PROGRAMMING MODE does not appear, exit and select PROGRAM RKE again. Press any transmitter button. A single chime will announce RKE module accepted transmission. Repeat procedure for all transmitters used with vehicle. Operate door locks from reprogrammed transmitter. If door locks operate properly, system has been repaired. If door locks do not operate properly, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, reprogram a known good transmitter: Operate door locks with reprogrammed transmitter. If doors locked properly, replace transmitter. If doors did not lock properly, replace CTM.

DOOR DISARM SWITCH FAILURE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, read VTSS inputs/outputs information. If scan tool displays door disarm switch state OPEN, system is currently functioning properly. If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state OPEN, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect left door disarm switch. If scan tool displays door disarm switch state OPEN, replace left door disarm switch. If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state OPEN, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect right door disarm switch. If scan tool displays door disarm switch state OPEN, replace left door disarm switch. If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state OPEN, go to next step.
  4. Access Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 10 (Light Green/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Orange wire. If resistance is 1000 ohms or more, replace CTM.

DOOR LOCK SWITCH FAILURE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Clear trouble codes as needed. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, read I/O's door lock switch status. If scan tool displays RELEASED, system is currently functioning properly. If scan tool does not display RELEASED, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect left door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays RELEASED, replace left door lock switch. If scan tool does not display RELEASED, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect right door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays RELEASED, replace right door lock switch. If scan tool does not display RELEASED, go to next step.
  4. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 13 (Pink/Dark Green wire). If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Pink/Dark Green wire between CTM and door lock switch. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less, replace CTM.

DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH FAILURE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Clear trouble codes as needed. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, read I/O's door unlock switch status. If scan tool displays RELEASED, system is currently functioning properly. If scan tool does not display RELEASED, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect left door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays RELEASED, replace left door lock switch. If scan tool does not display RELEASED, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect right door lock switch connector. If scan tool displays RELEASED, replace right door lock switch. If scan tool does not display RELEASED, go to next step.
  4. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 4 (Orange/Dark Green wire). If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Orange/Dark Green wire between CTM and door lock switch. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less, replace CTM.

IDENTIFYING VTSS PROBLEMS

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM then VTSS and read Central Timer Module (CTM) DTCs. If any VTSS DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate procedure. See «VTSS DTC»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer) table. If no VTSS DTCs are displayed, go to next step. VTSS DTC DTC Message Perform DOOR DISARM SWITCH FAILURE «DOOR DISARM SWITCH FAILURE»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__door-disarm-switch-failure) DOOR LOCK SWITCH FAILURE «DOOR LOCK SWITCH FAILURE»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__door-lock-switch-failure) DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH FAILURE «DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH FAILURE»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__door-unlock-switch-failure) EEPROM CHECKSUM FAILURE Replace CTM INTERNAL ROM TEST FAILURE Replace CTM
  2. Select VTSS then MONITORS. If scan tool displays, OK TO RUN, NOT OK TO ARM, PCM has not recorded more than 20 starts. Start engine 20 times and retest. If message does not change to OK TO ARM, replace PCM. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE TO PCM, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display OK TO RUN, NOT OK TO ARM or NO RESPONSE TO PCM, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, actuate horn, headlights and VTSS light to flash. If horn does not sound, go to next step. If headlights do not flash, go to step 6 . If VTSS light does not flash, go to step 9 . If all function properly, go to step 12 .
  4. Press horn button. If horn does not sound, go to appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  5. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Turn ignition on. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 18 (Black/Red wire). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, replace CTM. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less, repair open in Black/Red wire between CTM and horn relay.
  6. Remove security relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between battery source and headlight relay connector terminal No. 85 (Red/Dark Blue wire). Using scan tool, actuate relay. If test light illuminates, replace security relay. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  7. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between battery voltage and security relay connector terminal No. 86 (Red/Orange wire). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less, repair open in Red/Orange wire between battery source and security relay.
  8. Reinstall security relay. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 6 (Red/Dark Blue wire). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, replace CTM. If voltage is 9.5 volts or less, repair open in Red/Dark Blue wire between CTM and security relay.
  9. Disconnect overhead console 12-pin connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between battery and overhead console 12-pin connector terminal No. 11 (Black wire). Using scan tool, actuate VTSS indicator light. If voltage is about 10 volts, replace overhead console. If voltage is not about 10 volts, go to next step.
  10. Measure voltage between ground and overhead console 12-pin connector terminal No. 5 (Pink wire). Turn ignition on. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Pink wire.
  11. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Disconnect CTM 18-pin connector C2. Turn ignition on. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 8 (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace CTM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire between CTM and VTSS indicator light.
  12. Using scan tool, place VTSS in diagnostic mode and follow directions on screen. If TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION is not displayed, go to step 24 . If NO RESPONSE after turning key to accessory position or TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION is displayed longer than 15 seconds, go to next step. If neither response is received, go to step 14 .
  13. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Gain access to CTM 18-pin connector C2. Ensure key is in accessory position. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and backprobe of CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 5 (Dark Blue/White wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace CTM. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Dark Blue/White wire between CTM and junction block.
  14. Remove key from ignition. Wait 2 seconds after performing each of the following actions. Open, then close both door. Operate power door lock switch to lock, then unlock position. Rotate key both directions in both doors. Ensure each operation is successful. If any operation is unsuccessful, see «VTSS SYMPTOM DIRECTORY»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer) table for repair of failed operation. If all operations are successful, go to step 22 .   15. Ensure driver's door is closed. Using scan tool, read VTSS inputs/outputs door ajar status. If scan tool displays DR DOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to «SHORTED LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__shorted-left-door-ajar-circuit) under DOOR AJAR SYSTEM. If scan tool does not display DR DOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to «OPEN LEFT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__open-left-door-ajar-circuit) under DOOR AJAR SYSTEM.
  16. Ensure passenger's door is closed. Using scan tool, read VTSS inputs/outputs door ajar status. If scan tool displays DR DOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to «SHORTED RIGHT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__shorted-right-door-ajar-circuit) under DOOR AJAR SYSTEM. If scan tool does not display DR DOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to «OPEN RIGHT DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__open-right-door-ajar-circuit) under DOOR AJAR SYSTEM.
  17. Using scan tool, monitor door disarm switch state. Disconnect left door disarm switch. Connect jumper wire between left door disarm switch connector terminals. If scan tool displays door disarm switch state CLOSED, replace left door disarm switch. If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state CLOSED, go to next step.
  18. Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between ground and left door disarm switch connector Light Green/Orange wire. If scan tool displays door disarm switch state CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state CLOSED, repair open left door disarm switch ground circuit (Black/Light Green wire).
  19. Access Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a jumper between ground and backprobe CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 10 (Light Green/Orange wire). If scan tool displays door disarm switch state CLOSED, repair open left door disarm switch sense circuit (Light Green/Orange wire). If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state CLOSED, replace CTM.
  20. Using scan tool, monitor door disarm switch state. Disconnect right door disarm switch. Connect jumper wire between right door disarm switch connector terminals. If scan tool displays door disarm switch state CLOSED, replace right door disarm switch. If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state CLOSED, go to next step.
  21. Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between ground and right door disarm switch connector Light Green/Orange wire. If scan tool displays door disarm switch state CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state CLOSED, repair open right door disarm switch ground circuit (Black/Light Green wire).
  22. Access Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a jumper between ground and backprobe CTM 18-pin connector C2 terminal No. 10 (Light Green/Orange wire). If scan tool displays door disarm switch state CLOSED, repair open right door disarm switch sense circuit (Light Green/Orange wire). If scan tool does not display door disarm switch state CLOSED, replace CTM.
  23. Turn ignition to start. If horn does not sound, go to next step. If horn sounds, go to step 24 .
  24. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located behind right kick panel. Disconnect CTM 14-pin connector C1. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and CTM 14-pin connector C1 terminal No. 8 (Dark Blue/White wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace CTM. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Dark Blue/White wire between CTM and RUN-ACC fuse in junction block.

WIPER PARK SWITCH FAILURE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.

Note. It takes 8 seconds for wiper park switch failure DTC to set.

  1. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article. Operate wipers in low speed, then intermittent mode. Reread DTCs. If WIPER PARK SWITCH FAILURE is displayed, go to next step. If WIPER PARK SWITCH FAILURE is not displayed, system is currently functioning properly.
  2. Gain access to wiper motor connector. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and wiper motor terminal No. 2 (Dark Green wire). If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9 volts or less, replace wiper motor.
  3. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and backprobe of CTM 14-pin Green connector C1 terminal No. 11 (Dark Green wire). If voltage is 9 volts or less, replace CTM. If voltage is more than 9 volts, repair short to voltage in Dark Green wire between CTM and wiper relay or wiper motor.

INTERMITTENT WIPERS INOPERATIVE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool select CENTRAL TIMER MODULE. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool displays any CCD bus failure message, go to «SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__symptom-identification) . If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE or any CCD bus failure message, go to next step.
  2. If problem is wipers parking in wrong position, go to next step. If problem is not wipers parking in wrong position, go to step 5 .
  3. Gain access to wiper motor connector. Turn wipers on to low speed. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and wiper motor switch terminal No. 2 (Dark Green wire). If voltage does not cycle between zero and 12 volts, replace wiper motor. If voltage cycles between zero and 12 volts, go to next step.
  4. Locate Central Timer Module (CTM). CTM is located under left side of instrument panel. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and backprobe of CTM 14-pin Green connector C1 terminal No. 11 (Dark Green wire). Wipers should be operating at low speed. If voltage does not cycle between zero and 12 volts, repair open Dark Green wire between CTM and wiper relay or wiper motor. If voltage cycles between zero and 10 volts, replace CTM.
  5. Using scan tool, monitor intermittent wiper voltage level. Rotate wiper switch from low intermittent to high intermittent level. If voltage changes from approximately 2.5 to 12 volts, replace CTM. If voltage does not change from approximately 2.5 to 12 volts, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect 24-pin multifunction switch connector. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance of White/Dark Blue wire between multifunction switch connector terminal No. 1 and CTM 14-pin Green connector C1 terminal No. 12. if resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace multifunction switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open White/Dark Blue wire between multifunction switch and CTM.

NO WIPER ACTUATION AFTER WASH BUTTON PUSHED

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool select Central Timer Module (CTM). If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool displays any CCD bus failure message, go to «SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__symptom-identification) . If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE or any CCD bus failure message, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. If washer system works, go to next step. If washer system does not work, see appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article.
  3. Using scan tool, actuate washer. If washer pump sense displays ON, replace CTM. If washer pump sense does not display ON, repair open Brown wire between CTM 14-pin connector C1 terminal No. 10 and multifunction switch.

WIPER SPEED SENSITIVE FEATURE INOPERATIVE

Note. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTIONAlways turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool select Central timer module (CTM). If scan tool display is not blank or have a CCD bus failure message, go to next step. If scan tool display is blank or has a CCD bus failure message, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  2. Using scan tool, select Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool display is not blank or have a CCD bus failure message, go to next step. If scan tool display is blank or has a CCD bus failure message, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Turn wipers on to lowest intermittent position. Time interval between wipes. Spin rear wheels to more than 15 MPH. If interval between wipes decreased to approximately 18 seconds, system is currently functioning properly. If interval between wipes did not decrease to approximately 18 seconds, replace CTM.

BODY VERIFICATION TEST

  1. Reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. Turn ignition on. If entry module was replaced, program all RKE transmitters and program other options as necessary.
  2. Ensure ignition is on. Erase all DTCs using scan tool. Turn ignition off and wait 5 seconds. Turn ignition on and fully operate system that was malfunctioning.
  3. If system is not operating properly, go to «SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION»(/dodge/cab-chassis-r2500/1996-2002/remont/body-cab-control-systems/#body-control-computer__symptom-identification) . If system is operating correctly and customer's complaint cannot be duplicated, repair is complete.
