The accessory drive belt for all engines is a Poly-V type belt.
The accessory drive belt for the 2.0, 2.4L and 3.6L engines drive the generator, A/C compressor, and power steering pump.

Accessory drive belt tension for all engines is maintained by a non-adjustable automatic drive belt tensioner.

When diagnosing accessory drive belts, small cracks (1) that run across ribbed surface of belt from rib to rib, are considered normal. These are not a reason to replace belt. However, cracks running along a rib (not across) are not normal. Any belt with cracks running along a rib must be replaced. Also replace belt if it has excessive wear, frayed cords or severe glazing.

- Using a wrench, rotate accessory drive belt tensioner (8) counterclockwise until accessory drive belt (2) can be removed from pulleys (5 and 9).
- Remove accessory drive belt (2).

| CAUTION | Do not let tensioner arm snap back to the freearm position, severe damage may occur to the tensioner. |
- Disconnect negative battery cable from battery.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove right front wheel.
- Remove the inner splash shield.
- Rotate belt tensioner (8) until it contacts its stop. Remove belt (7), then slowly rotate the tensioner into the freearm position.

Note. When installing drive belt on the pulleys, make sure that belt is properly routed and all V-grooves make proper contact with pulley grooves.
- Install the accessory drive belt (2) around all the pulleys except for the generator pulley (3).
- Using a wrench, rotate accessory drive belt tensioner (8) counterclockwise until accessory drive belt (2) can be installed on the generator pulley (3). Release spring tension onto accessory drive belt (2).

- Check condition of all pulleys. CAUTION: When installing the serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt MUST be routed correctly. If not, the engine may overheat due to the water pump rotating in the wrong direction.
- Install new belt (7). Route the belt around all pulleys except the idler pulley (2). Rotate the tensioner arm (8) until it contacts its stop position. Route the belt (7) around the idler (2) and slowly let the tensioner (8) rotate into the belt. Make sure the belt (7) is seated onto all pulleys.
- With the drive belt installed, inspect the belt wear indicator. The gap between the tang and the housing stop (measurement A) must not exceed 24 mm (.94 inches).
- Install the inner splash shield.
- Install the wheel.
- Lower vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery.
