Engine Cooling Fan (Coupe): Diagnosis Dodge Avenger I

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)

If PCM detects a problem with radiator cooling fan or condenser fan a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set in memory. For additional information on DTC and trouble shooting with DRB, see the TESTS W/CODES - 2.5L VIN [N] article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.

  1. Bring engine to normal operating temperature. Cycle A/C switch on and off. Listen for clicking sound at fan relays in PDC, in front of left strut tower. (Scheme 1)
  2. If clicking sound is heard, go to next step. If no clicking sound is heard, install known-good relay(s), and cycle A/C switch again. If clicking sound is still not heard, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect cooling fan electrical connector. Using jumper wires, connect battery to cooling fan motor terminals. (Scheme 2)or (Scheme 3). If cooling fan runs, repair wire harness between fan relay(s) and cooling fan motor. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-50945-S11101605652001011600000). If cooling fan does not run, replace cooling fan motor.
