DESCRIPTION
Electric window lift motors for front, rear and quarter panel windows are permanent magnet type. Motors are grounded through the master switch by a Black lead attached to the left cowl panel.
TESTING
Note. Check inoperative glass for a binding condition between glass and run channels. Correct binding before making electrical tests.
SWITCH VOLTAGE
- Remove switch from trim panel and carefully disconnect multiple terminal block on wire harness from switch body. Using a test lamp, connect one lead of test lamp to Black wire terminal and other test lamp lead to Tan wire terminal.
- If light comes on, power circuit from battery is good. If light does not come on, check 30 amp power fuse (circuit breaker), or for broken or shorted wire in circuit.
SWITCH
- If the failure is in passenger or rear doors, connect jumper wires to that switch connector as shown, depending on model. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Check operation of motor by making jumper connections on left front main switch connector.
- If the failure is in the left front door, it is not necessary to disconnect or jump any other switch. If the motor operates using jumper wires, a switch is the cause of the failure. If window motor does not operate using jumper wires, perform Motor Lift Test.

MOTOR LIFT TEST
- Check motor by connecting a test battery positive lead to either of the motor terminals. Connect the negative lead of test battery to the opposite motor lead.
- Motor should operate to move window up or down unless window is already at the end of its travel. Reverse the test battery leads. The motor should operate in opposite direction. If not, replace motor.
Removal
Remove inner door panel and wiring connector for motor. Remove 3 rivets holding regulator to inner door frame. Remove screw holding motor bracket to door frame (if equipped). Disengage drive slider from glass channel and remove regulator and motor.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure and test motor after installation.
- Raise or lower window to proper access hole position. Remove screw attaching flex rack to drive arm. Remove regulator attaching rivets by knocking out rivet center mandrel and drilling rivet with 1/4" drill bit.
- Maneuver motor end of the flex drive regulator outside the large inside panel access hole. Rotate the regulator out of the door.
- If the window motor cannot be actuated and is stuck outside of access hole position, remove regulator attaching rivets as described above.
- Manually lift the window upward with the unriveted flex drive electric regulator still attached until the screw can be removed. If more access is required, remove 2 screws holding "T" track to the motor gearbox.
- Install motor on "T" track. Feed top of "T" track into access hole and point and rotate it toward the hinge pillar until regulator motor is approximately horizontal. Rotate regulator in the opposite direction about 1/4 turn and line up bracket tab to inner panel slot.
- Fasten the regulator with the proper rivet sequence. (Scheme 3) Actuate the motor until the flex rack is visible within the access slot and attach the window and drive arm assembly to the flex rack.

FRONT & REAR DOOR MOTORS
Note. Following procedure is not recommended if any system parts are loosened or removed from door. If window system parts other than motor are to be removed, use procedure for removing Window Regulator and Motor.
- With door trim panel removed, raise window to full up position. Support with a block while removing motor. Disconnect wiring and remove screws holding motor to regulator and bracket support.
- To remove motor, grip motor housing and pull toward outer panel. A rocking motion may be necessary to disengage motor from regulator.
| CAUTION | Keep fingers away from sector gear area to avoid pinching by regulator linkage movement. |
To install, reverse removal procedure. Position motor gearbox to engage regulator sector teeth. Center post on gearbox must fit into pilot hole on plate.
