Driver information ~1895 words

Foreword

The multifunction screen is an ECU of the Comfort VAN network, which has the following functions

  • Inform the driver on components exterior to the system (date, time, exterior temperature)
  • Inform the driver on the system's interior components (autodiagnostic, trip computer)
  • Control the radio and manage its display (*)
  • Control the CD changer and manage its display (*)
  • Control the navigation system and manage its display (*)
  • Control the carphone and manage its display (*)

(*): (according to equipment)

There are three different multifunction screens (types "B", "CT" and "DT"), which manage the display of the various components and functions, according to the vehicle's trim level

The multifunction screen (EMF) has the functions of a Comfort network ECU. in effect, it collects information travelling through the multiplex network, manages the different priorities for actions on the peripheral components (notably the radio) and manages the display of these as well as the lighting. it also oversees the state of the adjustment buttons (for the time, language etc,) of the controls on the steering column(CSV), the trip computer button (ODB) and sends the corresponding messages

A telematic system has two components, CT or DT screen and a telematic unit

There are 3 levels of telematics

  • Level 1: telematic unit with radio and telephone functions and a CT monochrome screen
  • Level 2: telematic unit with radio, telephone and navigation functions and a CT monochrome screen
  • Level 3: telematic unit with radio, telephone and colour navigation functions and a DT colour screen

Functions associated with the multi-function screen

Display of the following peripherals

  • Hr
  • Date
  • Date and time display format
  • Exterior temperature
  • Audio system
  • CD player
  • Trip computer
  • Telephone integegrated into the radio
  • Parking assistance
  • Status of the openers
  • Vehicle alerts

Press management

Different press types allowing use of the screens

  • Single press: on detection of the press
  • Short press: on release of the button, before the timing of a long press
  • Long press: above a time equal to t index L (see 2.3)
  • Maintained press at the end of the time of a long press, the information is sent periodically every 200 ms while the button is depressed

Key

  • "a": detection of a single press
  • "b": short press T lower than or equal to t index L
  • "c": long press T greater than or equal to t index L

Display selection function

Clarification of the alerts in the screen

As a function of the current situation, the requests for display of alerts and the alert priority criteria, the BSI chooses the alert to be shown on the screen at that time

The BSI simultaneously operates the audible warning in the COM 2000 if needed

Screen allocation

Each of the ECUS (BSI, REAR, NAV, CDC) makes available to the screen one or several streams of data to display

  • BSI: additional BSI displays (status of doors and tailgate, trip computer function, vehicle lighting fault management)
  • Rear: general radio state, particular radio state
  • NAV: navigation date, navigation direction, navigation state, navigation position, search for navigation BDD
  • CDC: CDC state

These datastreams are read by the screen according to its allocation strategy, but at least once per second for each datastream

Each device can send to the screen a stream of Eqt events, where Eqt designates the transmitting equipment. this datastream signifies that a change of content has occurred in one of the datastreams to be displayed. according to the context and the content of the datastream, the screen can accelerate or not the reading of the modified datastream

Back-up modes

In the event of a connection failure on the VAN comfort network, the current display can no longer be updated

If a connection problem appears between the BSI and the multifunction screen, the multifunction screen comes on (if it was off) and activates all its peripherals. the multifunction screen displays all the information still coming to it. the spaces reserved for other types of information remain blank

NoteIf the key is on stop and the user puts the radio on, on switching on the ignition, regardless of mode displayed before switching off the ignition, the radio display will be the one displayed in the A zone

Power save mode

The purpose of this mode is to limit battery current consumption when the engine is stopped. it is activated by the BSI after 30 minutes of operation of the network, engine off

In this case, the message "ECONOMY MODE ACTIVE" is displayed in the C1 zone for t index E (see 2.3)

  • While the network passes from nominal mode to economy mode (which for the MF screen corresponds to passing from the normal consumption mode to the reduced consumption mode on detection that the economy mode is active)
  • On ending a diagnostic session
  • At the first detection of the following conditions while economy mode is already active, such as: DONNEES_BSI_LENTES.ALIMS = 01 (accessories) condition +ACC true or; DONNEES_BSI_LENTES.ALIMS = 11 (ignition) condition +APC true
  • On request to start the radio if the economy mode is active

In this latter case, the MF screen will send an order to the radio to deactivate this request and to stop the various other requests: radio, cassette, CD or telephone

The MF screen should prevent all intermittent displays while chang0ing to economy mode as well as while activating a peripheral, with economy mode active

Example: no intermittent display of tuner info before displaying the message ECONOMY MODE ACTIVE when the key is moved from off to +ACC

Special case: if a telephone call is in progress at the moment the network is changing to economy mode, the telephone function is retained in order to allow the user to finish his conversation. but the user is kept informed by the system displaying the message economy mode message in zone A for t index A (see 2.3)

If a call is received while the network is in economy mode, the telephone function is not authorised (if the radio telephone is not in operation, no call will be received or handled)

On the other hand, the activation of the telephone source is authorised in the following conditions

Display priority rules for the different screens

priority ordertypes of screen
1"economy mode active" message
2telephone: incoming call
3 (*)screen results from a customer action
3 (*)warnings
4context in progress

(*): for the priority 3 screens, the arrival of an alert takes over a screen resulting from a customer action and vice versa

Example of a customer action (priority 3)

  • Adjustment of the radio parameters
  • Station search
  • Change of source
  • Etc.

WarningWhen two or more messages of the same priority level arrive, it is the last one that is displayed
