Additive

Role

Role of the additive

  • To lower the combustion temperature of the particles to 450°C (instead of 550°C)
  • To impregnate the particles forming in the combustion chamber
  • To propagate combustion of the particles

Description

Additive EOLYS (supplier "RHODIA")

Composition

  • Cerine: 6,5% by mass (EOLYS 176)
  • Catalytic converter: brown colour
  • Solvent product (combustible hydrocarbon)

Additive tank

Description

(1) fuel additive filler pipe

(2) breather pipe

(3) fuel additive pump (1283)

The quantity put in at the factory is 3,5 litres

NoteIn after-sales, you use 3 litres of fuel additive

NoteThe "fuel additive level check" procedure specifies the method for checking the level of fuel additive in the vehicle

Location

(4) additive tank

(5) fuel tank

Location: under the fuel tank

Additive injection pump (1283)

Role

The additive injection pump delivers a precise quantity of additive under pressure into the additive circuit

Description

"a" outlet to fuel additive injection valve

"b" connector

(6) positive displacement metering pump

The fuel additive pump is a positive displacement metering pump

The quantity of additive delivered depends on the unit capacity of the positive displacement metering pump

The unit capacity of the positive displacement metering pump is 6,45 mm3

As a function of the quantity of fuel added, the diesel injection ECU calculates the quantity of fuel additive to be injected into the fuel tank

The diesel injection ECU commands the volumetric metering pump by means of an OCR signal

Note1 pulse of the OCR signal = one injection of a capacity of 6,45 mm3

NoteOCR: opening cyclic ratio

Fuel additive pump connector

312V power relay
4RCO signal

The fuel additive pump (1283) is controlled by an OCR signal

Features of the OCR signal

  • Opening ratio of 34%
  • Frequency of the OCR signal 45Hz
  • Amplitude of the OCR signal 12 volts

Location

The pump is submerged in the additive tank

NoteThe pump cannot be separated from the additive tank

Valve

Role

The valve ensures that a defined quantity of additive is injected into the fuel tank

Description

Pressure of the fuel additive injection valve

  • 0,23 bar (relative pressure)
  • 1,23 bar absolute pressure

NoteThe additive injection valve is not an electrical component

Location

The additive injection valve is located on the plate of the fuel pump gauge module

Fuel tank cap presence sensor (4320)

Role

The fuel tank cap presence sensor informs the BSI1 whether the cap is open or closed

Role of the BSI1 as a function of the information received: to detect that fuel may be added

Description

(7) contact

(8) permanent magnet

The filler cap is fitted with a magnet and when the cap is closed, the magnet is opposite the contact

Electrical special features

Allocation of channels of connector

  • Terminal 1: 5 volts supply
  • Terminal 2: signal
  • Presence of the magnet opposite the contact: resistance = 150 000 ohms
  • Absence of the magnet opposite the contact: resistance = 15 ohms

Fuel gauge (1211)

Role

The fuel gauge informs the BSI1 of a variation in the level of fuel

The BSI1 sends the information to the diesel injection ECU

Role of the diesel injection ECU as a function of the information received

  • Determine the amount of additive to be injected
  • To control the additive injection pump

Check

H = height of the float pin in relation to the base plane

Check: fuel gauge

height of the float pin in relation to the base planeresistance
14 mm350 ± 11 ohms
41 mm300 ± 10 ohms
72 mm250 ± 10 ohms
104 mm200 ± 9 ohms
138 mm150 ± 9 ohms
171 mm100 ± 8 ohms
204 mm50 ± 2 ohms

Built-in systems interface (BSI1)

The BSI1 sends to the diesel injection ECU the following information

  • Volume of fuel added
  • Counter of the volume of fuel added
  • Status of additive system (diagnosis of the additive system)

The BSI1 receives the following information from the diesel injection ECU

  • Additive low level fault
  • Request for lighting of the "MIL" lamp
  • Risk of particle filter clogging

This information keeps the driver informed of the condition of the particle filter

Diesel injection ECU

The diesel injection ECU controls the injection of additive

The diesel injection ECU software incorporates

  • Management of the beginning and duration of additive injection into the fuel tank
  • Management of the total amount of additive injected since the beginning of the filter's life
  • Emergency strategies
  • Memorisation of faults present

The diesel injection ECU controls the additive injection pump electrically
