Description

Fuel pump

(1) fuel pump

"a" 6-way black connector

"A" fuel inlet

"B" fuel outlet

Make: TI AUTOMOTIVE

The fuel pump is submerged inside the fuel tank

NoteThe fuel filter is integral to the fuel pump

Fuel gauge

(2) fuel gauge

"a" 6-way black connector

Make: TI AUTOMOTIVE

The fuel gauge is fixed on the fuel pump inside the fuel tank

Fuel pressure regulator

(3) fuel pressure regulator

Make: TI AUTOMOTIVE

The fuel pressure regulator is incorporated in the fuel tank unit assembly

Role

Fuel pump

The role of the fuel pump is to deliver fuel to the supply rail of the petrol injectors

A non-return valve incorporated in the fuel pump on the fuel delivery circuit, maintains a residual pressure inside the circuit supplying fuel to the engine

Fuel gauge

The fuel gauge is for determining the level of fuel in the tank

Fuel pressure regulator

The fuel pressure regulator regulates the pressure of petrol in the rail supplying the petrol injectors

Function

Fuel pump

The fuel pump is powered by a direct current motor

The electrical control is all-or-nothing thanks to a power relay

The motor speed is defined by its resistance

The condenser and coils assembly smoothes out the input signal

(1) fuel pump

(3) fuel pressure regulator

(4) fuel filter

"A" fuel inlet

"B" fuel outlet

Direction of fuel circulation

  • Fuel supply (at "A")
  • Suction of the fuel by the fuel pump (1)
  • Filtration of the fuel through the fuel filter (4)
  • Filling of the chamber which leads to the fuel pressure regulator (3)
  • Fuel outlet (at "B")

Fuel gauge

(2) fuel gauge

"b" float at the minimum level

"c" float at the maximum level

Depending on the level of fuel in the tank, the position of the floater changes, this varying the resistance value of the fuel gauge

This resistance value allows the level of fuel in the tank to be deduced

Fuel pressure regulator

(1) fuel pump

(3) fuel pressure regulator

(4) fuel filter

(5) push spring

(6) return spring

"A" fuel inlet

"B" fuel outlet

"C" fuel pressure regulator inlet

"D" action in event of overpressure

When the pressure becomes too great in the fuel pump

  • The pressure of fuel pushes on the membrane (at "D")
  • The push spring (5) just behind the membrane is decompressed
  • The push spring (5) pushes on the return spring (6)
  • The slide valve gradually closes

The return spring (6) goes back to its rest position when the pressure in the fuel pump has dropped below 3,5 bars
