1. DTC IS ACTIVE Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. WARNING: When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts, or fan. Do not wear loose clothing. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury or death. With the scan tool, select View DTCs. Is the status Active for this DTC? Yes Go to 2 . No Refer to the «*CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT DTC»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#dtcs-u1417-to-u1418-checking-no-crank-and-no-start-condition-intermittent-dtc-component-checks-system-checks-checking-po) Diagnostic Procedure.
2. IGNITION COIL OPERATION CAUTION: Do not allow the ignition coil to fire with the secondary circuit open. PCM driver failure may result. Install a spark tester whenever testing for spark or a cylinder misfire. Turn the ignition off. Remove the ignition coil. NOTE: Inspect the ignition coil and the spark plug insulator for damage or carbon tracking. If any problems are found, replace the ignition coil. NOTE: If the ignition coil is on a 6.1 L engine, the spark tester must be installed on both sides of the coil. Each side of the coil should output a crisp blue spark that jumps the gap of the spark tester during the test. Attach the spark tester to the ignition coil. Crank the engine and observe the spark tester. NOTE: A crisp blue spark that jumps the gap of the spark tester should be generated. Is a good spark generated? Yes Go to 8 . Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Go to 3 .
3. (F343) ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, actuate the Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay Control State. Using a 12 volt test light connected to ground, check the (F343) ASD Relay Output circuit in the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector. NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. Is the test light illuminated and bright? Yes Go to 4 . No Repair the (F343) ASD Relay Output circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
4. IGNITION COIL Turn the ignition off. Using a 12 volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit. Crank the engine for 5 second while observing the test light. Does the test light blink/flicker? Yes Replace the Ignition Coil. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Go to 5 .
5. (K19) COIL 1 CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit in the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector. Is the resistance above 100 ohms? Yes Go to 6 . No Repair the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit for a short to ground. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
6. (K19) COIL 1 CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals, resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install Miller Special Tool #8815 to perform diagnosis. Measure the resistance of the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit between the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector and the appropriate terminal of special tool #8815. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes Go to 7 . No Repair the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
7. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Ignition Coil 1 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
8. ENGINE MECHANICAL CONDITION Turn the ignition off. Remove the spark plug. Inspect the spark plug for the contamination, fouling, or evidence of oil or coolant. Were any problems found? Yes Repair the engine mechanical condition and replace the spark plug. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Go to 9 .
9. SPARK PLUG Inspect the spark plug for the following conditions. - Cracks - Carbon Tracking - Gap size out of specifications - Loose or broken electrode NOTE: Lightly tap the bottom of the spark plug on a solid surface. The spark plug electrode should not move. Were any problems found? Yes Replace the spark plug. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . 3. IGNITION WIRE NOTE: This test must be repeated for the adjacent ignition wire. Turn the ignition off. Remove the ignition wire. Measure the resistance of the ignition wire. Is the resistance below 10K ohms? Yes Go to 4 . No Replace the ignition wire. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
4. (K344) ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Ignition Coil harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, actuate the Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay Control State. Using a 12 volt test light connected to ground, check the (K344) ASD Relay Output circuit in the Ignition Coil harness connector. NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright. 5. IGNITION COIL Turn the ignition off. Using a 12 volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (K17) Coil 2 Control circuit. Crank the engine for 5 second while observing the test light. Does the test light blink/flicker? Yes Replace the Ignition Coil. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Go to 6 .
6. (K17) COIL 2 CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K17) Coil 2 Control circuit in the Ignition Coil harness connector. Is the resistance above 100 ohms? Yes Go to 7 . No Repair the (K17) Coil 2 Control circuit for a short to ground. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
7. (K17) COIL 2 CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. 6. (K18) COIL 3 CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K18) Coil 3 Control circuit in the Ignition Coil harness connector. Is the resistance above 100 ohms? Yes Go to 7 . No Repair the (K18) Coil 3 Control circuit for a short to ground. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals, resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install Miller Special Tool #8815 to perform diagnosis. Measure the resistance of the (K18) Coil 3 Control circuit between the Ignition Coil harness connector and the appropriate terminal of special tool #8815. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes Go to 8 . No Repair the (K18) Coil 3 Control circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. 9. ENGINE MECHANICAL CONDITION Turn the ignition off. Remove the spark plug. Inspect the spark plug for the contamination, fouling, or evidence of oil or coolant. Were any problems found? Yes Repair the engine mechanical condition and replace the spark plug. NOTE: Inspect the ignition coil and the spark plug insulator for damage or carbon tracking. If any problems are found, replace the ignition coil. NOTE: If the ignition coil is on a 6.1 L engine, the spark tester must be installed on both sides of the coil. Each side of the coil should output a crisp blue spark that jumps the gap of the spark tester during the test. Attach the spark tester to the ignition coil. Crank the engine and observe the spark tester. NOTE: A crisp blue spark that jumps the gap of the spark tester should be generated. Is a good spark generated? Yes Go to 8 . 3. (F343) ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Ignition Coil 3 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, actuate the Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay Control State. Using a 12 volt test light connected to ground, check the (F343) ASD Relay Output circuit in the Ignition Coil 3 harness connector. NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. Is the test light illuminated and bright? Yes Go to 4 . No Repair the (F343) ASD Relay Output circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
4. IGNITION COIL Turn the ignition off. Using a 12 volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (K18) Coil 3 Control circuit. Crank the engine for 5 second while observing the test light. Does the test light blink/flicker? Yes Replace the Ignition Coil. 5. (K18) COIL 3 CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K18) Coil 3 Control circuit in the Ignition Coil 3 harness connector. Is the resistance above 100 ohms? Yes Go to 6 . No Repair the (K18) Coil 3 Control circuit for a short to ground. Each side of the coil should output a crisp blue spark that jumps the gap of the spark tester during the test. Attach the spark tester to the ignition coil. Crank the engine and observe the spark tester. NOTE: A crisp blue spark that jumps the gap of the spark tester should be generated. Is a good spark generated? Yes Go to 8 . Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Go to 3 .
3. (F343) ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Ignition Coil 6 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, actuate the Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay Control State. Using a 12 volt test light connected to ground, check the (F343) ASD Relay Output circuit in the Ignition Coil 6 harness connector. NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. Is the test light illuminated and bright? Yes Go to 4 . No Repair the (F343) ASD Relay Output circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
4. IGNITION COIL Turn the ignition off. Using a 12 volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (K10) Coil 6 Control circuit. Crank the engine for 5 second while observing the test light. Does the test light blink/flicker? Yes Replace the Ignition Coil. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Go to 5 .
5. (K10) COIL 6 CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K10) Coil 6 Control circuit in the Ignition Coil 6 harness connector. Is the resistance above 100 ohms? Yes Go to 6 . No Repair the (K10) Coil 6 Control circuit for a short to ground. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) .
6. (K10) COIL 6 CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals, resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install Miller Special Tool #8815 to perform diagnosis. Measure the resistance of the (K10) Coil 6 Control circuit between the Ignition Coil 6 harness connector and the appropriate terminal of special tool #8815. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes Go to 7 . No Repair the (K10) Coil 6 Control circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. 7. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Ignition Coil 6 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform «PCM VERIFICATION TEST»(/chrysler/town-country/v-2007-2010/remont/testing-diagnostics/#powertrain-control-modules-pcm-electrical-diagnosis__pcm-verification-test) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. 8. ENGINE MECHANICAL CONDITION Turn the ignition off. Remove the spark plug. Inspect the spark plug for the contamination, fouling, or evidence of oil or coolant. Were any problems found? Yes Repair the engine mechanical condition and replace the spark plug. 9. The PCM compares actual shutdown time to a calculated value, which is based on the amount the ECT should drop after a completely warmed up engine is shut down. If the difference is greater than a maximum value, a pending DTC will set.

1. When Monitored: After a complete engine warm up then ignition off time of greater than 1 hour with a minimum ECT drop of 10 C (50 C), with the engine running, the difference between ECT and AAT above 10 C (50 F) and battery voltage above 10 volts

1. Set Condition: If the measured shutdown time is significantly greater than an expected shutdown time based on how much the ECT has dropped, a one trip failure sets. If this happens again after another warm up and 1 hour engine off period, the MIL will set

1. ENGINE COOLANT INSPECTION NOTE: This DTC will set if the engine cools quicker than it should compared to engine off times. If a hot engine is washed with the ignition off, a pending DTC may set. If the vehicle is parked in a highly ventilated area or has a large fan blowing on it which might cause the engine to cool quicker than expected, a pending DTC may set. WARNING: Do not remove or loosen the radiator cap with the system hot and under pressure. Serious burns from coolant can occur. Turn the ignition off. Allow the engine to cool enough to allow the pressure in the coolant system to drop enough to safely remove the radiator cap. Check the coolant level and condition.
