Cooling System Bleeding: Removal & Installation Chrysler LHS I

Removal

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Mark hood at hinges and remove hood. Drain cooling system. Disconnect all electrical connections. Remove coolant hoses from radiator and engine. Remove radiator and fan assembly.
2. Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-48443-S20608043752001011500000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
3. Disconnect fuel lines and accelerator cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Hoist vehicle and drain engine oil. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts and set compressor aside. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold.
4. Remove transmission inspection cover and mark flexplate-to-converter position. Remove bolts holding torque converter to flexplate and attach "C" clamp on bottom of converter housing to prevent torque converter from coming out.
5. Remove power steering pump mounting bolts and position aside. Remove 2 lower transmission-to-block bolts. Remove starter. Lower vehicle and disconnect vacuum lines and ground strap.
6. Support transmission with floor jack. Attach engine hoist and support engine. Remove upper transmission case-to-block bolts. Remove insulator mounting nuts from mount. Remove engine.

Installation

For installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To fill and bleed cooling system, see COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

1. Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-48443-S20608043752001011500000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Drain cooling system. Remove engine cover from top of intake manifold plenum. Remove accelerator cable and speed control cable from throttle arm.
2. Disconnect electrical connector from idle air control motor. Disconnect electrical connector from charge air temperature sensor. Remove ground screw from intake manifold. Disconnect vacuum hose from manifold tuning valve.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. Disconnect electrical connector from throttle position sensor. Disconnect purge hose from throttle body. Disconnect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) make-up hose and idle air control motor supply hose (part of air inlet plenum).
4. Disconnect PCV hose, brake booster hose and vacuum hoses from intake manifold. Remove Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube mounting bolts at intake manifold plenum. Discard gaskets. Remove air plenum support bracket bolt on each side of manifold. Remove intake manifold plenum mounting bolts. (Note length and position of bolts.)
5. Remove intake manifold plenum. Discard gaskets. Cover intake manifold with tape to exclude contamination. Remove upper radiator hose from thermostat housing and heater hose from rear of intake manifold. Remove intake manifold attaching bolts and intake manifold.

Using NEW gaskets, install intake manifold. Tighten all bolts to specification and in correct sequence. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. see scheme 10
