Power Window System: Removal & Installation Chevrolet Venture I

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
  1. Using flat-blade tool, pry between interior light/multifunction switch/reading lamp housing and overhead console. Press inward and down in order to release interior light/multifunction switch/reading lamp housing from overhead console.
  2. Disconnect electrical connector from interior light/multifunction switch. Remove interior light/multifunction switch from reading lamp housing by compressing retainers while pulling out on switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  1. Unsnap plastic cover from shoulder belt guide. Remove front seat belt upper guide loop anchor nut. Using Door Trim Pad & Garnish Clip Remover (J-38778), remove rear corner upper garnish molding and body side rear upper garnish molding. Remove rear quarter window latch retaining screws. Remove rear quarter window hinge stud nuts. Remove rear quarter window.
  2. Remove pin from latch bearing. Remove bearing bushing retaining screw. Disconnect rear quarter window actuator electrical connector. Remove rear quarter window actuator retaining screws. Remove rear quarter window actuator. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten rear quarter window actuator retaining screws to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).
  1. Remove window switch and lock switch. See «WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-2713-S06619782292000041200000) . Remove armrest screws. Feed power controls through panel. Using Door Trim Pad & Garnish Clip Remover (J-38778), release trim panel retainers from door and pry trim panel from door frame at window seal.
  2. Remove protective water shield. Raise window to fully closed position, and tape securely in place. Disconnect electrical connector from regulator motor.
  3. Using grease pencil or marker, draw line through center of counterbalance spring to aid in reinstallation and orientation. Using Door Module Coil Spring Tension Remover (J-38864), release regulator spring tension. Remove window motor from lock module. To install, reverse removal procedure. Lubricate motor drive gear and regulator sector teeth.

Removal

CAUTIONDo not attempt to service the regulator motor without releasing the counterbalance spring tension. The regulator lift arm is under tension from the counterbalance spring and can cause personal injury if the motor is removed from the regulator.
  1. Remove the front door trim panel.
  2. Remove the front door water deflector.
  3. Apply the cloth backed body tape from the window over the top of the door to the other side of the window in order to hold the window in position when the removing the regulator.
  4. Remove the wiring harness from the regulator motor. IMPORTANT: Draw a line across the spring through the center with a marker or grease pencil in order to aid in the re-installation and orientation of the counterbalance spring.
  5. Use J 38864 (Door Module Coil Spring Tool) in order to release the regulator spring tension. Walk down the spring tension.
  6. Unsnap the power window motor in order to remove the power window motor from the lock module.

Installation

  1. Lubricate the motor drive gear and the regulator sector teeth.
  2. Snap the power window motor to the lock module in order to install the power window motor. IMPORTANT: Ensure the marker or grease pencil line from the removal procedure is lined up. Lining up the mark will set the correct pre-tension of the counterbalance spring.
  3. Use the J 38864 in order to install the spring tension. Walk up the spring tension.
  4. Install the wiring harness to the regulator motor.
  5. Install the front door water deflector.
  6. Install the front door trim panel.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Using flat-bladed tool, release spring clip at rear of switch. Lift up on switch mounting plate. Disconnect electrical connectors. Unsnap switch from mounting plate. To install, reverse removal procedure.
