REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Note. Following procedures were written specifically for Tech 2 scan tool. A generic scan tools may not be capable of performing all necessary programming and self-diagnostic functions.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove lower dash panels on left side of instrument panel. Remove knee bolster. Open ashtray. Remove instrument panel accessory trim plate retaining screws. Using flat-blade door panel type tool, pry upper tabs loose from instrument panel accessory trim plate. Disconnect electrical connectors, and remove instrument panel accessory trim plate.
  2. Tilt steering wheel to lowest position. Starting near headlight switch, pry on release clips of instrument cluster trim plate. Working toward center of instrument cluster, remove instrument cluster trim plate. Remove screws from instrument cluster. Pull instrument cluster part way out and remove electrical connectors. Remove instrument cluster. Contact an authorized A/C Delco service center for transfer of information from failed Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or affix appropriate label with necessary vehicle information on driver door pillar. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disable SIR system. See «AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS»(ref-97270) article. Remove inflator module and steering wheel.
  2. Remove tilt lever. Remove ONLY lower steering column shroud. Remove fasteners ONLY from upper shroud. Lift upper steering column shroud to gain access to lock cylinder access hole. Insert a bent tip awl into ignition lock cylinder access hole. Turn ignition switch to START position and use bent tip awl to push down on ignition lock cylinder retainer. Release ignition lock cylinder to RUN position. Remove ignition lock cylinder from lock module.
  3. Remove lower instrument panel insulator. Remove knee bolster. Remove upper steering column shroud. Disconnect electrical connector at base of steering column. Pull PASS-Key(R) III module from ignition lock cylinder housing. Remove electrical connector and wires from steering column. To install, reverse removal procedure. Perform appropriate programming procedure new module and all vehicle transponder ignition keys. See PROGRAMMING in «ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - MONTANA, SILHOUETTE & VENTURE»(ref-3893) article.

Remove 5 retainers from right instrument panel insulator. Right instrument panel insulator is located under glove box assembly. (Scheme 8) Remove interior light from right instrument panel insulator. Remove theft deterrent relay from relay block mounted on bracket next to Body Control Module (BCM). see scheme 8 To install, reverse removal procedure.
