Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify that DTC B138A is not set. If DTC is set, refer to «DTC B138A»(ref-365285-S40498563862010070600000) .
  2. Verify that DTC B0958 3A, DTC B0959 3A, DTC B0960 3A, or DTC B0961 3A is not set. If DTC is set, replace the appropriate object alarm sensor.
  3. Transmission in REVERSE, verify the parking assist system is enabled and one audible beep sounds.

The object alarm module detects the sensor 8 V reference circuit is less than 7.2 V.

B138A 07

The object alarm module detects the sensor 8 V reference circuit is greater than 9.2 V.

  1. The object alarm module clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 ignition cycles.
  2. The condition for the DTC is no longer present.

Intermittent

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

  1. Ignition ON, verify the park assist system is enabled through the DIC. If the park assist system is manually disabled, enable the system. Refer to the vehicle owners manual for instructions on enabling the system.
  2. Transmission in REVERSE, verify one audible beep sounds and the scan tool Park Assist System Status parameter is Enable. NOTE: After completing the next step the vehicle might need to be driven at speed greater than 40 km/h (25 mph). If not the specified values, refer to «Diagnostic Aids»(ref-365285-S00376286662010070600000) and the scan tool Park Assist Disable History parameters to determine the cause of the inhibit.

  1. Inspect the rearview camera and verify there are no debris on the lens and that the bezel or bezel seal is not damaged. If debris are found on the lens, clean the lens. If the lens, bezel, or bezel seal are damaged, replace as necessary.
  2. Engine running, vehicle in PARK, verify the backup lamps are off. If the backup lamps are illuminated, refer to Rearview Camera System Always On under «Circuit/System Testing»(ref-365285-S08293447302010070600000) .
  3. Park brake applied, transmission in REVERSE, verify a clear rear vision image is displayed on the inside rearview mirror. If a clear image is not displayed, refer to Rearview Camera System Does Not Display under «Circuit/System Testing»(ref-365285-S08293447302010070600000) .

Preliminary Procedures Remove the left rear quarter lower trim panel. Refer to Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement (Acadia/OUTLOOK with TB4) or Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement (Acadia/OUTLOOK with TB5) or Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement (Enclave with TB4) or Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement (Enclave with TB5) or Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement (Traverse with TB4) or Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement (Traverse with TB5) . Remove the liftgate actuator (if equipped). Refer to Liftgate Actuator Replacement .
1Communication Interface Module Bracket Procedure Disconnect the body harness from the bracket as required. Loosen the bracket fasteners to remove the bracket from the slotted holes. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
2Rear Object Alarm Module Procedure: Refer to Control Module References Control Module References for programming and set up.

1Information Center Telltale Assembly Bezel Procedure Position a flat bladed plastic trim tool between the headliner and the rear of the information center telltale assembly bezel to release the tab retaining the bezel to the headliner. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2Parking Aid Monitor Module Procedure: Pull the tabs outwards to release the module from the bezel.

Rear Parking Assist System DIC Messages

SERVICE PARK ASSIST

The driver information center (DIC) displays SERVICE PARK ASSIST when the object alarm module detects a malfunction in the parking assist system and the system is disabled. The DIC also displays SERVICE PARK ASSIST when a loss of communication occurs with the object alarm module.

PARK ASSIST OFF

The PARK ASSIST OFF message is displayed in the DIC when the parking assist system is disabled due to conditions that disable or inhibit the system. The object alarm module requests the DIC display PARK ASSIST OFF when it detects one of the following conditions

  1. The parking assist system is manually disabled using the driver information center (DIC).
  2. An object is attached to the rear of the vehicle, such as a trailer, bicycle rack, trailer hitch receiver, or tow bar.
  3. The object alarm sensors are covered by snow, mud, dirt, slush, or ice.
  4. The vehicle bumper is damaged.
  5. Excessive paint thickness on a replacement object alarm sensor.
  6. The object alarm sensors are disrupted by vibrations, like those caused by a large nearby vehicle or from heavy equipment such as a jackhammer.
