Circuit/System Verification

  1. Use a scan tool to verify there are no brake pedal position sensor and/or transmission internal mode switch (IMS) DTCs set that could cause the BCM not to provide battery voltage to the A/T shift lock solenoid.
  2. Ignition ON, while pressing the brake pedal, observe the scan tool Brake Applied Output Signal parameter. The reading should be ON with the brake pedal pressed. If not the specified parameter, refer to «Stop Lamps Malfunction»(ref-365239-S24338658412010070600000) .
  3. Press the brake pedal, the vehicle operator should be able to move the shifter lever out of the park position.

Repair Procedures

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

Symptoms - Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control

IMPORTANTThe following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.
  1. Perform the «Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle»(ref-365273-S03182733772010070600000) before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true: There are no DTCs set. The control modules can communicate via the serial data link.
  2. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to «Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Description and Operation»(ref-365308-S31030555412010070600000) .

Intermittent

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

Scheme 63

Scheme 63: Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Actuator Replacement (Traverse)
CalloutComponent Name
Preliminary Procedure: Remove the transmission control. Refer to Transmission Control Replacement (Traverse) .
1Shift Lock Actuator Procedure Disconnect the electrical connector from the shift lock actuator. Press lock on the solenoid wiring connector and remove by pulling on the connector, not the wire. Depress the shift lock actuator retaining tabs and press the solenoid into the base by pushing on the solenoid housing, NOT the white plunger. Connect the electrical connector from the shift lock actuator, ensuring the connector is fully locked into the solenoid. Tip: Ensure the solenoid is fully locked into the base.

Scheme 64

Scheme 64: Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Actuator Replacement (Acadia, Enclave, OUTLOOK)
CalloutComponent Name
Preliminary Procedures: Remove the front floor console extension panels. Refer to Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Right Side (Acadia) or Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Right Side (Enclave) or Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Right Side (OUTLOOK) and Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Left Side (Acadia) or Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Left Side (Enclave) or Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement - Left Side (OUTLOOK) .
1Shift Lock Actuator Screw CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution Tighten: 4 N.m (35 lb in)
2Shift Lock Actuator Procedure: Shift lock actuator wires must be de-pinned from the electrical connector.
CAUTION
Refer to Fastener Caution
