Installation Procedure

  1. Install the recirculation actuator. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the recirculation actuator screws.
  3. Tighten
  4. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  5. Install the air inlet assembly.
  6. Install the screws to the HVAC module assembly.
  7. Tighten
  8. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  9. Install the HVAC module assembly. Refer to HVAC MODULE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  10. Recalibrate the recirculation actuator on vehicles equipped with automatic climate control (C68). Refer to «Re-Calibrating Actuators (Primary)»(ref-188486-S39623797672005090500000) or «RE-CALIBRATING ACTUATORS (AUXILIARY HVAC)»(ref-188486-S32813230632005090500000) .

Scheme 161: Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the I/P carrier. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CARRIER REPLACEMENT in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the mode actuator.
  3. Remove the screws from the mode actuator (3).
  4. Remove the mode actuator.

  1. Install the mode actuator (3). NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the screws to the mode actuator (3).
  3. Tighten
  4. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (18 lb in).
  5. Install the I/P carrier. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CARRIER REPLACEMENT in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

  1. Remove the IP carrier. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CARRIER REPLACEMENT in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the defroster actuator.
  3. Remove the screws from the defroster actuator.
  4. Remove the defroster actuator.

  2. Install the defroster actuator screws.
  3. Tighten
  4. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the defroster actuator.
  6. Install the IP carrier. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CARRIER REPLACEMENT in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

  2. Remove the air temperature actuator-right retaining screws.
  3. Disconnect the air temperature actuator-right electrical connector.
  4. Remove the air temperature actuator-right.

  2. Tighten the air temperature actuator-right retaining screws.

  4. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb ft).
  5. Install the air temperature actuator-right electrical connector.
  6. Install the I/P carrier. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CARRIER REPLACEMENT in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  7. Recalibrate the air temperature actuator on vehicles equipped with automatic climate control (C68). Refer to «Re-Calibrating Actuators (Primary)»(ref-188486-S39623797672005090500000) or «RE-CALIBRATING ACTUATORS (AUXILIARY HVAC)»(ref-188486-S32813230632005090500000) .

  2. Remove the air temperature actuator-left (1) retaining screws.
  3. Disconnect the air temperature actuator-left electrical connector.
  4. Remove the air temperature actuator-left.

  1. Remove the right rear quarter trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER, ENVOY, BRAVADA) or TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER EXT, ENVOY XL) in Interior Trim.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the air temperature actuator.
  3. Remove the retaining screws from the air temperature actuator.
  4. Remove the air temperature actuator (1) from the rear HVAC module.

  1. Install the air temperature actuator (2) to the rear HVAC module. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the screws to the actuator.
  3. Tighten
  4. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the air temperature actuator.
  6. Recalibrate the air temperature actuator. Refer to «Re-Calibrating Actuators (Primary)»(ref-188486-S39623797672005090500000) or «RE-CALIBRATING ACTUATORS (AUXILIARY HVAC)»(ref-188486-S32813230632005090500000) .
  7. Install the right rear quarter trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER, ENVOY, BRAVADA) or TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER EXT, ENVOY XL) in Interior Trim.

  1. Remove the console. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Remove the screw from the air outlet duct.
  3. Remove the air outlet duct from the console.
  4. Remove the rear mode actuator retaining screws.
  5. Remove the rear mode actuator.

  1. Install the mode actuator. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the screws to the mode actuator.
  3. Tighten
  4. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  5. Install the air outlet duct to the console.
  6. Install the screw to the air outlet duct.
  7. Tighten
  8. Tighten the screw to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  9. Install the console. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Scheme 174: Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the right rear quarter trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER, ENVOY, BRAVADA) or TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER EXT, ENVOY XL) in Interior Trim.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the mode actuator-auxiliary (1).
  3. Remove the mode actuator-auxiliary (1) from the HVAC module-auxiliary.
  4. Remove the retaining screws from the mode actuator-auxiliary.

  1. Install the mode actuator (1) to the HVAC module-auxiliary. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the screws to the mode actuator-auxiliary.
  3. Tighten
  4. Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the mode actuator-auxiliary (1).
  6. Install the right rear quarter trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER, ENVOY, BRAVADA) or TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER - RIGHT (TRAILBLAZER EXT, ENVOY XL) in Interior Trim.
  7. Calibrate the HVAC module actuators. Refer to «Re-Calibrating Actuators (Primary)»(ref-188486-S39623797672005090500000) or «RE-CALIBRATING ACTUATORS (AUXILIARY HVAC)»(ref-188486-S32813230632005090500000) in HVAC Systems - Automatic.

  1. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the air temperature sensor-upper right (1).
  3. Remove the air temperature sensor-upper right (1) by turning the sensor clockwise and pulling out.

  1. Install the air temperature sensor-upper right (1).
  2. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the air temperature sensor-upper right (1).
  3. Install the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.

  1. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
  2. Remove the HVAC control module. Refer to «HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(ref-188486-S19477692012005090500000) .
  3. Remove the air temperature sensor.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the upper air temperature sensor (1).

  1. Install the upper air temperature sensor (1) to the air duct (2).
  2. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the upper air temperature sensor (1).
  3. Install the upper air temperature sensor.
  4. Install the HVAC control module. Refer to «HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(ref-188486-S19477692012005090500000) .
  5. Install the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the air temperature sensor-lower left (2).
  3. Remove the air temperature sensor-lower left.

  2. Connect the electrical connector to the air temperature sensor-lower left.

  1. Remove the passenger side closeout panel. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - RIGHT in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. Remove the IP lower closeout panel. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) LOWER (GMC/CHEVROLET) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the air temperature sensor-lower right (2).
  4. Remove the air temperature sensor-lower right (2).

  1. Install the air temperature sensor-lower right (2).
  2. Connect the electrical connector (3) to the air temperature sensor-lower right (2).
  3. Install the IP lower closeout panel. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) LOWER (GMC/CHEVROLET) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  4. Install the passenger side closeout panel. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - RIGHT in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

Removal Procedure

IMPORTANTRecline the driver seat rearward to access the left center trim pillar.

  1. Remove the upper portion of the left center trim pillar.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. Remove the retaining clips from the B pillar.
  4. Remove the inside air temperature sensor assembly (1) from the B pillar.

  1. Connect the electrical connector to the inside air temperature sensor assembly (1).
  2. Install the inside air temperature sensor assembly (1) to the B pillar.
  3. Install the retaining clips to the B pillar.
  4. Install the upper portion of the left center trim pillar.

  1. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Remove the sun load sensor from the I/P upper trim pad by turning counter clockwise.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sun load sensor.

  1. Connect the electrical connector to the sun load sensor.
  2. Install the sun load sensor to the I/P upper trim pad by turning clockwise.
