REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING. |
Note. For removal and installation procedures not covered in this article, see HEATER SYSTEMS - TRACKER article.
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 glove box hinge pins and glove box. Disconnect A/C compressor control module connector from top of evaporator case. Unsnap and slide A/C compressor control module to remove from case. (Scheme 4) To install, reverse removal procedure.
Removal
- Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect compressor clutch wiring harness connector.
- Remove refrigerant lines and "O" rings at compressor. Cap all refrigerant line openings. Remove upper compressor bolt. Remove 2 lower compressor bolts, while removing compressor drive belt from pulley. Remove compressor.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW "O" rings. Adjust drive belt. Evacuate and charge A/C system. Check for leaks.
- Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove front grille and grille net. Remove radiator core center brace. Remove upper and lower bolts. Remove front end upper panel from radiator core support.
- Disconnect refrigerant outlet and inlet lines from condenser. Cap all refrigerant line openings. Disconnect condenser fan electrical connector. Remove condenser bolts. Remove condenser and fan from vehicle as an assembly. Remove fan attaching bolts and remove fan from condenser.
To install, reverse removal procedure. If installing a new condenser, add .7-1.0 ounce of refrigerant oil to suction side fitting of compressor. Evacuate and charge A/C system. Check for leaks.
- Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING. Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove blower case. See HEATER SYSTEMS - TRACKER article.
- Disconnect refrigerant lines from evaporator case at engine side of firewall. Cap all refrigerant line openings. Remove evaporator case mounting from firewall. Remove right side instrument panel center support. Remove passenger's air bag module. Loosen evaporator-to-heater clamp.
- Slide clamp onto heater case. Remove evaporator case drain hose. Disconnect A/C compressor control module and evaporator thermistor connectors. Remove air bag wiring harness loop from around evaporator case. Remove 2 upper evaporator case bolts. Remove evaporator case from vehicle. (Scheme 4) Separate evaporator case halves. Remove evaporator core from case. Remove expansion valve. Remove thermistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Evacuate and charge A/C system. Check for leaks.
