Lighting System: Removal & Installation — Chevrolet Sonic I (2011-2016)

Brake Pedal Position Sensor Replacement

Note. Brake system does not use a brake switch, stoplight switch or brakelight switch. System uses a Brake Pedal Position Sensor to control these functions.

Removal Procedure

Remove the instrument panel lower trim pad cover. Refer to «Instrument Panel Lower Trim Pad Cover Replacement (Without AAL)»(ref-542486-S24333336292013041600000) , «Instrument Panel Lower Trim Pad Cover Replacement (With AAL)»(ref-542486-S32313228862013041600000) .
Disconnect the brake pedal position sensor electrical connector.
Remove the brake pedal position sensor bolt (1).
Remove the brake pedal position sensor.

Installation Procedure

Install the brake pedal position sensor to the brake pedal bracket.
Install the brake pedal position sensor bolt (1) and tighten to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
Connect the brake pedal position sensor electrical connector.
Calibrate the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to «Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration»(ref-542483-S01924819902013041600000) .
Install the instrument panel lower trim pad cover. Refer to «Instrument Panel Lower Trim Pad Cover Replacement (Without AAL)»(ref-542486-S24333336292013041600000) , «Instrument Panel Lower Trim Pad Cover Replacement (With AAL)»(ref-542486-S32313228862013041600000) .

Scheme 12: Headlamp Switch Replacement

Preliminary Procedure Remove the instrument panel lower trim pad cover. Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim Pad Cover Replacement (Without AAL) , Instrument Panel Lower Trim Pad Cover Replacement (With AAL)
1	Headlamp Switch Procedure Gently depress tabs to remove the switch assembly from the instrument panel lower cover. Disconnect the electrical connector.

Scheme 13: Hazard Warning Switch Replacement

Preliminary Procedure Remove the heater and air conditioning control. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement .
1	Hazard Warning Switch Bolts (Qty: 2) CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
2	Hazard Warning Switch Procedure Disconnect the electrical connector.

1	Reading lamp Procedures Release the clips retaining the reading lamp assembly to the bezel. Disconnect the electrical connections.

1	Dome Lamp Bezel Cover Procedures Grasp the bezel cover and pull downward to remove from the lamp assembly. Disconnect the electrical connections, as necessary.
2	Dome Lamp Bezel Fasteners (Qty: 2) CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
3	Dome Lamp Bezel Procedures Pull assembly downward to remove. Disconnect the electrical connections.

1	Windshield Header Courtesy Lamp Procedures Grasp the courtesy lamp assembly and pull downward to release the retainer clips securing the courtesy lamp assembly to the headliner. Disconnect the electrical connections.

1	Headlamp Assembly Screw (Qty: 4) CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution . Tighten 2.5 N.m (22 lb in)
2	Headlamp Assembly Procedure Disconnect the electrical connector bulb harness and remove the headlamp assembly. Aim the headlamps after replacement. Refer to Headlamp Aiming .

Preliminary Procedure Open and support the hood assembly.
1	Accessory Bulb Cover (Qty: 2)
2	WARNING: Refer to Halogen Bulb Warning . Headlamp Bulb (Low Beam) Procedure Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb socket. Rotate the bulb socket and remove from the headlamp housing.
3	Headlamp Bulb (High Beam) Procedure Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb socket. Rotate the bulb socket a quarter turn and remove from the headlamp housing.

Preliminary Procedure Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
1	Headlamp Housing Bracket Screw (Qty: 2) CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution . Tighten 2.5 N.m (22 lb in)
2	Headlamp Housing Bracket Procedure Release the tabs on the housing bracket from the front bumper fascia and remove.
