Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the washer solvent container. Refer to «Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement»(ref-184173-S02265694852005082200000) .
  2. Using a small flat-bladed tool, remove the washer solvent container level sensor (1) and seal (2) from the container.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the washer solvent container level sensor (1) and the seal (2) to the container by pressing in until fully seated.
  2. Install the washer solvent container. Refer to «Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement»(ref-184173-S02265694852005082200000) .
  1. Remove the battery and battery tray from the vehicle. Refer to «Battery Tray Replacement»(ref-184144-S33925505652005082200000) in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the inner wheel housing from the vehicle. Refer to «Wheelhouse Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S07972120782005082200000) in Body Front End.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the washer pump.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the washer solvent level sensor.
  5. Disconnect the washer hose from the washer pump.
  6. Remove the upper bolt from the washer solvent container.
  7. Remove the lower bolts from the washer solvent container.
  8. Remove the washer solvent container from the vehicle.
  1. Install the washer solvent container into the vehicle.
  2. Install the lower bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  3. Install the upper bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the washer pump.
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the washer solvent level sensor.
  6. Connect the washer hose to the washer pump.
  7. Install the inner wheel housing. Refer to «Wheelhouse Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S07972120782005082200000) in Body Front End.
  8. Install the battery and battery tray. Refer to «Battery Tray Replacement»(ref-184144-S33925505652005082200000) in Engine Electrical.
  1. Remove the washer solvent container. Refer to «Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement»(ref-184173-S02265694852005082200000) .
  2. Remove the washer pumps from the reservoir.
  1. Install the washer pumps into the reservoir.
  2. Install the washer solvent container. Refer to «Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement»(ref-184173-S02265694852005082200000) .
  1. Mark the position of the wiper blade on the windshield with a suitable marker or a piece of masking tape.
  2. Disconnect the washer hose.
  3. Remove the cover from the nut on the wiper arm.
  4. Remove the nut from the wiper arm.
  5. Remove the wiper arm from the drive shaft.
  6. Clean the knurls of the drive shaft with a wire brush.
  1. Position the wiper arm so that the wiper blade aligns with the mark made on the windshield before removal.
  2. Install the wiper arm onto the drive shaft.
  3. Install the nut on the drive shaft. Tighten: Tighten the nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
  4. Install the cover on the nut.
  5. Connect the washer hose.
  6. Clean the locating mark or masking tape from the windshield.
  7. Operate the wipers and inspect for proper operation.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACCY position.
  2. Set the wiper switch to the PULSE position.
  3. Turn the ignition OFF when the wipers are in the innerwipe position and not moving.
  4. Push in the button of the wiper blade clip and remove the wiper blade from the inside radius of the wiper arm.
  5. Bring the wiper arm out through the opening in the wiper blade.
  1. Insert the hook of the wiper arm through the opening in the wiper blade.
  2. Position the wiper blade pivot in the inside radius of the wiper arm hook.
  3. Pull the wiper blade pivot into the wiper arm hook until the pivot locks into the hook.
  4. Operate the wipers and inspect for proper operation.
  1. Remove the wiper blade from the wiper arm. Refer to «Wiper Arm Blade Replacement»(ref-184173-S26591416502005082200000) .
  2. Remove the bottom claws (2) of the wiper blade (1) from the notches in the wiper blade element (3).
  3. Pull the wiper blade element (3) out through the wiper blade claws (2).
  1. Insert the open end of the wiper blade element (3) into the bottom claws of the wiper blade (2).
  2. Guide the wiper blade element (3) through the wiper blade (1) claw sets.
  3. Engage the bottom claw (2) of the wiper blade (1) into the notches in wiper blade element (3).
  4. Install the wiper blade onto the wiper arm. Refer to «Wiper Arm Blade Replacement»(ref-184173-S26591416502005082200000) .
  1. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  2. Open the hood.
  3. Remove the radio antenna. Refer to «Fixed Antenna Replacement»(ref-184119-S18203234442005082200000) in Entertainment.
  4. Remove the wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(ref-184173-S28487321572005082200000) .
  5. Remove the air inlet panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S06947293712005082200000) in Body Front End.
  6. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) connector (1).
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the wiper motor cover (4).
  8. Remove the 4 screws (3) that secure the cover to the motor.
  9. Remove the cover (4) from the vehicle.
  1. Position the cover (4) to the wiper motor.
  2. Install the 4 screws (3) to the cover. Tighten: Tighten the 4 screws equally to 2.6 N.m (23 lb in).
  3. Connect the electrical connector (2) and install the CPA.
  4. Install the air inlet panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S06947293712005082200000) in Body Front End.
  5. Install the wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(ref-184173-S28487321572005082200000) .
  6. Install the radio antenna. Refer to «Fixed Antenna Replacement»(ref-184119-S18203234442005082200000) in Entertainment.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery)»(ref-184144-S12006988322005082200000) or «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery)»(ref-184144-S01033869922005082200000) in Engine Electrical.
  8. Close the hood.

Wiper Motor Replacement

Tools Required

  1. J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator. See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .
  2. J 39529 Wiper Transmission Installer. See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .
  1. Remove the wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(ref-184173-S28487321572005082200000) .
  2. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S06947293712005082200000) in Body Front End.
  3. Remove the 4 bolts and the reinforcement panel.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor.
  5. Remove the 2 bolts from the wiper transmission assembly.
  6. Remove the wiper transmission assembly from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the drive link from the wiper motor crank arm with the J 39232 . See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .
  8. Remove the 2 bolts retaining the wiper motor.
  9. Remove the wiper motor from the wiper transmission assembly.
  1. Install the wiper motor onto the wiper transmission assembly with the 2 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the 2 bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
  2. Install the drive link onto the wiper motor crank arm with the J 39529 . See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .
  3. Install the wiper transmission assembly on the vehicle with the 2 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the 2 bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the wiper motor.
  5. Install the reinforcement panel with the 4 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the 4 bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  6. Install the air inlet grille panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S06947293712005082200000) in Body Front End.
  7. Install the wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(ref-184173-S28487321572005082200000) .
  8. Operate the wipers and check for proper operation.

Wiper Transmission Replacement

Tools Required

  1. J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator. See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .
  2. J 39529 Wiper Transmission Installer. See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .

Scheme 1: Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(ref-184173-S28487321572005082200000) .
  2. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S06947293712005082200000) in Body Front End.
  3. Remove the 4 bolts and the reinforcement panel.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor.
  5. Remove the 2 bolts from the wiper transmission assembly.
  6. Remove the wiper transmission assembly from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the drive link from the wiper motor crank arm with the J 39232 . See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .
  8. Remove the 2 bolts retaining the wiper motor.
  9. Remove the wiper motor from the wiper transmission assembly.

Note. Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  1. Install the wiper motor onto the wiper transmission assembly with the 2 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the 2 bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
  2. Install the drive link onto the wiper motor crank arm with the J 39529 . See «Special Tools»(ref-184173-S14114604252005082200000) .
  3. Install the wiper transmission assembly on the vehicle with the 2 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the 2 bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the wiper motor.
  5. Install the reinforcement panel with the 4 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the 4 bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  6. Install the air inlet grille panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(ref-184166-S06947293712005082200000) in Body Front End.
  7. Install the wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(ref-184173-S28487321572005082200000) .
  8. Operate the wipers and inspect for proper operation.
