The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

- 4. Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition.
- 5. The symptom list in Symptoms will determine the correct diagnostic procedure to use.
- 6. The presence of DTCs which begin with "U" indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed.
Symptoms - Engine Electrical

- Perform «Diagnostic System Check - Engine Electrical»(ref-188993-S20690252862005091300000) before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true: There are no DTCs set. The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
- Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to one of the following system operations: «Battery Description and Operation»(ref-188993-S24751663822005091300000) «DESCRIPTION & OPERATION»(ref-168656-S15207831372004111300000) for Starting System. «DESCRIPTION & OPERATION»(ref-167946-S18487817872004102600000) for Charging System.
