1. 4. Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition.
2. 5. The symptom list in Symptoms will determine the correct diagnostic procedure to use.
3. 6. The presence of DTCs which begin with "U" indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed.

Symptoms - Engine Electrical

1. Perform «Diagnostic System Check - Engine Electrical»(ref-188993-S20690252862005091300000) before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true: There are no DTCs set. The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
2. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to one of the following system operations: «Battery Description and Operation»(ref-188993-S24751663822005091300000) «DESCRIPTION & OPERATION»(ref-168656-S15207831372004111300000) for Starting System. «DESCRIPTION & OPERATION»(ref-167946-S18487817872004102600000) for Charging System.
