Inspection
Inspect camshaft lobe height, journal diameter and runout. Replace camshaft if not within specifications. See CAMSHAFT table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. Use Plastigage to check camshaft oil clearance. Install camshaft into cylinder head and tighten bearing caps in sequence to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table. Replace camshaft and/or cylinder head if oil clearance is not within specifications. See CAMSHAFT table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
Inspect valve lifter and bore for damage. Replace lifter or shim if excessively worn.
