Cruise Control System: Overview Chevrolet Prizm I

DESCRIPTION

WARNINGBefore servicing steering column or instrument panel components on vehicles with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS - PRIZM article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
CAUTIONIf battery is disconnected, radio will go into anti-theft protection mode. Obtain radio anti-theft protection code from owner prior to servicing vehicle.

Cruise control system consists of Cruise Control Module (CCM), servo and actuator motor, associated cables, speed sensor, CRUISE ON-OFF switch, brakelight switch, Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) interrupt switch (M/T), Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch (A/T) and related wiring. The system allows vehicle to cruise at a desired speed greater than 25 MPH.

Pressing CRUISE ON-OFF lever in turns system on. CRUISE indicator light in instrument cluster will come on. To set desired speed, move cruise lever downward to SET/COAST position and release it. Press CRUISE ON-OFF lever in again to turn cruise control system off.

Cancel set speed by pulling cruise control lever toward you (CANCEL position), pressing CRUISE ON-OFF lever in, pressing brake pedal, pressing clutch pedal (M/T) or downshifting transaxle. If vehicle speed falls to less than 25 MPH, set speed will automatically cancel. If vehicle speed decreases 10 MPH less than set speed, set speed will also cancel. If Cruise Control Module (CCM) detects a system malfunction, set speed will automatically cancel and CRUISE indicator light will flash several times.

Moving cruise control lever up to RES/ACC (resume/accelerate) position allows vehicle to return to speed set before cancellation. Moving cruise control lever up to RES/ACC (resume/accelerate) position and keeping it there gradually increases vehicle speed. Moving cruise control lever down to SET/COAST position and keeping it there gradually decreases vehicle speed.
