  1. Disconnect battery. Remove air cleaner and drain cooling system. Disconnect accelerator cable and detent cable (automatic transmission) from throttle lever. Disconnect wiring from engine.
  2. Remove radiator hoses from radiator and heater hoses from engine. Remove radiator, fan and water pump pulley. Disconnect fuel line from fuel pump. Remove hood. Raise vehicle.
  3. Remove starter, flywheel or converter inspection cover, and exhaust pipe from manifold. If equipped with automatic transmission, remove converter-to-flex plate bolts. Remove engine mount bolts. On 4WD models, remove strut rods at motor mounts.
  4. On all models, remove bellhousing retaining bolts and support transmission with chain. Lower vehicle and attach lifting device. Remove engine.
