DTC C1216: EBCM UNABLE TO DECREASE BRAKE PRESSURE TO PREVENT EXCESSIVE WHEEL SLIP ("W" ONLY) Chevrolet Malibu V facelift

  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See «DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-63396-S07871276672001020200000) under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with ignition off. Using scan tool, observe DTC information parameter in ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If scan tool displays any other ABS DTCs relating to wheel speed sensor or solenoid valve operation, diagnose affected DTCs. If no other ABS DTCs are set, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, monitor all of wheel speed sensor in ABS data display while decelerating vehicle from 35 to 0 MPH. If any of wheel speeds indicate erratic or intermittent operation, see DTC «DTC C1221-C1235»(ref-63396-S19634041752001020200000) . If any of wheel speeds does not indicate erratic or intermittent operation, go to next step.
  4. Check base brake system for brake fluid contamination, excessive brake drag or suspension system irregularities. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 7 . If base brake system is okay, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, clear DTCs, then perform automated test. Recheck DTCs. If DTC resets as a current DTC, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
  6. Replace BPMV. After replacing BPMV, go to next step.
  7. Using scan tool, clear DTCs, then perform automated test. Recheck DTCs. If DTC resets, go to step 2 .
