Engine Oil Pan Removal - v6 Chevrolet Forward Control P30

2WD Models

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine oil. Remove engine. Remove oil pan attaching hardware. Remove oil pan. Clean all gasket mating surfaces.
  2. When installing, apply thin coat of sealer to entire oil pan sealing flange. Align holes of gasket on block and install oil pan.

4WD Models

  1. Disconnect battery. Remove dipstick. Raise vehicle. Remove drive belt splash, front axle and transfer case shields. Disconnect brake lines at crossmember. Remove No. 2 crossmember.
  2. On automatic transmission models, remove converter hanger bolts. Disconnect exhaust pipes at manifold and slide exhaust rearward. On all models, disconnect front drive shaft at drive pinion.
  3. Disconnect engine braces at flywheel cover and loosen braces at block. Remove flywheel cover. Remove starter bolts and lay starter aside. Disconnect steering shock absorber at frame bracket. Remove steering gear bolts.
  4. Mark position of idler arm location for reinstallation, then remove attaching bolts. Pull steering gear and linkage forward. Remove front differential housing mounting bolts and move housing forward.
  5. Remove motor mount through bolts. Drain oil. Remove oil pan bolts. Raise engine. Remove oil pan. Clean all gasket mating surfaces.
  6. When installing, apply 1/8" bead of sealer on entire oil pan sealing flange. Align holes of gasket on block and install oil pan.

Astro & Safari Models

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise vehicle. Drain engine oil. Disconnect exhaust pipes at manifolds. Remove engine strut rods at inspection cover.
  2. Remove inspection cover. Remove starter and set aside. Remove engine mount trim bolts. Remove oil pan. Clean all gasket mating surfaces.
  3. When installing, apply 1/8" bead of sealer on entire oil pan sealing flange. Align holes of gasket on block and install oil pan.

All Other Models

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise vehicle. Drain engine oil. Disconnect exhaust crossover pipe at manifolds. Remove engine strut rods at inspection cover. On 4WD pickup models with automatic transmission, remove strut rods at motor mounts.
  2. Remove inspection cover. Remove starter and set aside. Remove engine mount trim bolts. Remove oil pan. Clean all gasket mating surfaces.
  3. When installing, apply 1/8" bead of sealer on entire oil pan sealing flange. Align holes of gasket on block and install oil pan.
